    Hi all,

We're back with our second and re branded ( Off the Laois in 2014 ) event.

We have a half marathon and 10k both on Nov 22 and 12:00 in Portarlington, Co Laois.

By running in our event you'll be helping to raise funds for Irish Autism Action & Aiobheann's Pink Tie. All profits will go to our charities. In 2014 we raised over 10k for our charities.

All runners will get a branded gift on the day ( we listened to feedback for last year and this years will be running related ) and of course as usual we will have a medal designed just for the day and maybe there will be a gingerbread man or two on the day !! You also have an option to purchase a t shirt as well. We will only be ordering t shirts for orders we get so its you're own decision, it will be a black tech with the logo on it !

There is a limit to the number of runners we can have and our event closed two weeks early in in 2014 so when we reach capacity we will close entry and there will be none on the day. We are capping our event at 650 runners between both distances so please get in early as we will not be adding any extra places due to the amount of extra work it causes and we are a small crew.

Both events will start at 12:00 at McCann GAA Centre in Portarlington and Registration will be open from 10AM at the GAA Centre.

    We will have half pacers for 1:30, 1:40, 1:50, 2:00, 2:10, 2:20, 2:30.

There will be free parking Portarlington Train Station & there will be refreshments afterwards.

There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd in male/female in both distances.

You can enter here and once again we'd advice people to enter early as we closed two weeks before our event in 2014.

Here you go, this is the same route from our July event, you run the loop clockwise.

    http://www.strava.com/routes/138058

As you can see its nice and flat with not that would be considered a major hill.

Hey Claude. I'm gonna give this a go.

One question though- You do realise that the term 'Gingerbread Man' when mentioned in relation to running is not something people would be interested in receiving as a post race treat!?! :D;) :P

It is with some sadness that we are informing you that our online entry/chipping supplier Precision Timing Ltd ceased trading yesterday 5th October 2015.

At this time we are considered to be a creditor and we in turn are owed funds that were destined for our charities.

We will not comment further other than to say that we will be sourcing another company to provide chip timing and we would like to thank all the staff at Precision including Claire, Ronan, Jason & especially Lucy who were so good to us and efficient when we worked with them on past events.

We have all the names of those who have entered on the Precision site and those names will be added to our starting list for November 22nd. We will announce our new timing partner in the coming days.

This will not affect the race and we thank you all for your support so far. Runners can still enter through the Run Ireland website.

    Mark, Richie & Wes

We are happy to announce that Pop Up Races will be providing timing services to us on Nov 22.

You can enter on www.thegingerbreadrun.com or via www.runireland.com

Just confirmed if you want a t shirt you must register by Nov 8th, after that no orders will be taken as we need to get numbers and sizes to our supplier !

Hi Claude, just registered there and had a look at the route on Strava. Its seems like its a straight out and back route. Will it be like the last 10k and running up the Canal Road and looping back up to the roundabout at Odlums and headin out towards the golf club or is it a straight run out and back??

    I take it you're talking about the 10k ?

Its around the block and out the road BUT does not turn for the golf club, it goes about 1.5k out towards Limetree, turns and back into the GAA so flat and fast !

Half and 10k will go off together.

Just to let everyone know that with one month until the event we are at 50% capacity !

If you are going to do a race in November we'd ask you to consider ours. We are 100% for charity and after our timing company went bust we need to sell out the event to max when we can still get for our charities.

We are confident it will sell out so no sob stories;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,543 ✭✭✭Claude Burgundy

We expect to sell out in advance and there will be no entries on the day !

Registration will be open from 09:30 on Sunday morning and there's free parking in Portarlington train station.

    Any questions just ask !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,543 ✭✭✭Claude Burgundy

    Sounds good !

Sunday will be a cold, bright day with lighter northerly breezes. Many places will be dry but a few coastal showers are likely in parts of the north and east.
Afternoon highs of 5 to 8 degrees C and cold and frosty overnight

Apologies for the question but I'm not from the area.
Is the train station car park near the registration / start line?

Sorry no. It's something we'll look at for 2016. What time would you like ?

No worries. Was just curious as IV been out of action for a while. When I first signed up I was hoping to break 40 mins. But things got in way. If I got in around 45 I be happy. Not a pb race I don't think unfortunately but Il keep an eye on me watch.

Just back - great event - lovely relatively flat course. First time running with pacers and the 1:40 lads did a great job. Thanks to the marshalls and those that manned the water stations especially the kids.
