Okay so i have two things to mention in this post..

So i'm on the motorway twice a week, Why do idiots not turn their full lights off when you're coming towards them? Also i over took a mercedes benz at about 80-85mph, Passing the person anyway seen they dipped their headlights for me and then as i'm infront of them they put them back on are some people really that ignorant?

Also i was driving in town today and was travelling to my friends house and had to go through a few roundabouts, Now as i was in the right lane on 3 of those roundabouts i got cut off by 2 old people and a young girl, Now how can't people notice a bright purple car with orange fog lights confuses me.. And they have the cheek to look at me as i'm in the wrong when i beeped at them!

What you need is some neon lights. The burds love them and other drivers will think you're steering a hovercraft.

Do you drive around with your orange fogs on all the time, do you think there might be a link with drivers you overtake leaving their full lights on?

Yes i drive around with the foglights on but they're a dull orange it's like the bulbs are about to go in them so i'm 99% they don't blind people as they're not hids and the glass is only painted.

On a serious note though it's something you have to live with. It happens every day to all of us here and there's not much you can do.

Lane hoggers drive me mental, especially on the N81... You always see a Micra with an L-plate doing 60 in the right hand side lane and they just don't move out of the way, never mind the fact that they're driving unaccompanied. I mean I don't really have an issue with it if people are feeling confident and actually try and learn rules of the road but sure most people just hop in and drive in whatever way the car rolls.

You forgot to drive a safe distance ahead of the car you are overtaking before you pull back into the left lane, hence full beams ;)

Any chance your back fog lights are on also?

Living in the land of the americans I have to deal with this stuff every day. Lane discipline means nothing in the US. Most motorists get on to a motorway/freeway and immediately get into the middle lane. And turn signals and mirrors are not used.

    Anyway...

I wonder how much american tourists in hire cars are causing standards to drop on Irish motorways?

When you next witness a (new) car performing an inexplicably oblivious maneuver on the motorway, maybe its a yank? A tell tale sign would be the inability to use turn signals correctly. In the US when people do use them they tend to use them AS the vehicle is actually turning, not before to warn other drivers but as they're physically turning. Makes it almost pointless, but Id guess if you see vehicles doing this then they're probably americans.

Cruising along in the middle lane with no other traffic around is also a sure fire sign.

    Give them a wide berth.

On the M50 last week an older woman stopped & indicated to change lanes......... she nearly caused a pile up.

BTW why the hell are your fog lights on?

Nope never puts them on only in heavy rain or fog

inb4 somebody says that's what your front fogs are for too :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,698 ✭✭✭Hachiko

people using foglights are idiots, do they think it makes the car more cool or something. I have fog lights, and never actually used them, why? I have never been in foggy situations (aside from getting hoofed out of threads here). As for the idiots not dimming full beams, I just leave my on full too, they are very bright also.

Excuse me, am i reading that right?:eek::eek::eek:
Can you elaborate? My eyes tell me that this woman stopped on the motorway to change lanes and immediately my brain refuses to believe it. What lane was she in? It's almost unfair that she wasn't creamed by an 18 wheeler.

Worst thing I've ever seen was a car on the M18 going towards Shannon from the Limerick direction. In the outside lane, doing about 40 km/h, followed by a MASSIVE tailback that several cars nearly crashed into and refusing to move over. So cars built up behind it, the car right behind would beep and flash to indicate to them to move the fcuk out of the way, give up and undertake, but having to be careful not to get hit by cars not bothering and just undertaking anyway. I tried myself, got in behind them, beeping, flashing, gesturing them to move over...nothing. The whole time there was absolutely no reaction from the car that indicated that they were in any way aware of the presence of any other car on the road, despite a massive tailback, huge chaos, beeping, flashing, swearing, etc... When I undertook I had no time to look over, I was concentrating on not getting hit by other drivers flying past on the inside, so I don't know who was driving.

Doesn't matter who was driving.... If the car was less than 15yrs old then it's grand grand grand.

I saw someone stop in the overtaking lane, and reverse a bit because they missed this junction  https://goo.gl/maps/J7nox

It was a Fairly quiet sunday, but still, that is the most stupid thing you could do. I wasn't exactly under the speed limit either, so that would have made some mess

I used have a lowered car, it looks like everyone has their full beams on, it is just that your mirrors come under his headlight cutoff. If you've crappy springs with no real thought put into spring rates chances are she bounces a bit, looking like you're flashing the oncoming cars

Because of all the stupidity on roads I have found that women are more guilty of it then men & btw I am a woman.

It was a red car & I could hardly believe it. I'm only sorry I did not take her reg.

I was coming home late last night - about 11ish - and on the 3-lane stretch of the N7 an inbound bus started flashing headlights rapidly.

Thinking there was a camera van ahead I eased off, but then I saw what he was flashing at.. a car in front of him with NO lights at all (must have been drunk/on drugs I assume)

And now you're ragging on red cars! :p
Actually its only sexist when you say it was a woman. Had you said "this daft old bastard", it would have been perfectly acceptable.
Tish pash and nonsense to all this PC crap. The driver was a woman and there's no law against you saying so. So the PC police can go back in their box.
Personally I think it is daft old bastards who do the worst things. They usually do something stupid or ignorant, but as soon as anyone beeps or flashes them, they usually get thick and then will slow down, move out and block everyone.

Scary moment this morning, was at the north circular crossroad in phibsborough this morning when an ambulance approached the junction with lights and siren on, he came to a complete stop at the red and a Micra flashed past at speed towards finglas.

I've seen a cyclist do the same across the front of a squad car which was in a really serious hurry she just sailed across oblivious.

I reckon its headphones and daydreams that are to blame in both cases, but just speculation.

Its a frigging epidemic now on motorways and dual carriageways, people leaving their full lights on as if they think that people on the other side can't see them. I don't remember it ever being as bad as the last couple of years.

To be fair to the people leaving their lights on. It isn't their fault or their problem that you have a problem with their beams. If you have a problem with lights on the other side of a dual carriage way, that's down to poor road design not inconsiderate driving on the part of drivers who expect to be able to use their lights on a dual carriageway.

I thought what happened to me recently was bad enough - some tool stopped completely at a junction off a motorway. It was a few cars ahead so I have no idea why but I can only assume they realised last second they were in the wrong place. Nearly caused a pileup as it's a tight enough area in general

You do understand that cars coming around a bend with the headlights full on, or cars in the overtaking lane drive past a gap in the median are going to blind cars coming the other way? Maybe you should drive in the dark sometime to see what they are doing, and see if your opinion changes

Idiotic. If there's a bend, even a slight one, the lights will shine across to the other side. Design has nothing to do with it, unless a 2 meter high wall was built in the middle of the motorway, which is just a daft idea.
But if you think I shouldn't have a problem with your lights, surely you won't have a problem with mine, enjoy!
