hi, so scared and this is all i can think to do! so a few nights ago i went out and was so drunk and can barely remember the night. I remember going off with a guy but not much else. I am terrified that we may have had sex as i am a virgin, and when i woke up the next morning there was blood in my underwear. I remember him fingering me really roughly that it hurt, and thinking back now im worried that may have been us having sex? I really cant remember and am so scared, i took the emergency pill to be on the safe side but this is keeping me up! I cant go to doctors as my parents would find out. Any help?

Thanks for replying! see the thing is i don't know this guy and have no way of getting in contact to ask, and i know he had his pants down at some stage and said something along the lines of ''you had sex with me but wont give me a blowjob'' or something like that, and i definitely don't remember a condom at all! I just don't know if it was him fingering me that hurt so much or if it was sex- would i be able to tell the difference if i was that drunk?

Get yourself to a well woman clinic to be tested for std. He sounds like a bit of a jerk to be honest. Lots of people have been in similar situations just make sure you don't end up there again for your own sanity. Don't be too hard on yourself either.

Hi, I'm sorry that what should (but rarely is) a "special moment" has been taken away from you.
I hate to say this but you probably will never know what exactly happened that night, unless you meet up with him to chat, but from how he treated you - I presume knowing this was your first time- he is an utter jerk.
You were right to get the emergency contraception. I'd also recommend you get a a STD test to be on the safe side, I don't know where you are but there are a few clinics around Dublin and as far as I know they are free.
I know this is a lot to be dealing with as a young adult, and I can imagine your head might be a bit messed up over a guy treating you like that and not knowing if your virginity is still intact, or what exactly happened that night. Do you have a close friend to talk this over with, or a confidante? Maybe the Well Woman centre could offer you a session of counselling to come to terms with this so it doesn't impact on your future as badly as it could. The guy took advantage, plain and simple. You might feel bad because you were drunk, but you are not in the wrong.

OK if it's any consolation. If he had ejaculated inside you, it is VERY unlikely that he'd be looking for a blowjob straight away - not many guys would be physically able for that.

Assuming he didn't ejaculate inside you, you're at way less risk of pregnancy or an STD.

Losing your virginity can mean different things to different people. There is of course the obvious and traditional definition of a man's penis entering the woman. But some women would consider it lost the first time they're fingered, or through oral sex, or whatever. Others (in your position) might decide it's still intact because the man didn't ejaculate inside them. Others (also in your position) might decide it's still intact because they don't remember it, or because it was a terrible experience. No one can tell you what you personally feel about whether or not your virginity is still intact is wrong. It's personal to you. There is no need to ever discuss with anyone whether you're still a virgin, unless you want to, because it's none of their business!

You certainly did the right thing in getting the morning-after pill as a precautionary measure. Although I think you're at little risk of having contracted an STD, you may as well get the tests done so that you don't have doubt lingering in the back of your mind.

Once you get the results of the STD test, and once you're sure you're not pregnant, you can just put this whole horrible experience behind you. And please don't beat yourself up about what happened! Similar has happened with many women, you're not the first. And it sounds like he was a bit of an arsehole taking advantage of a drunk teenager.

Thank you all so much you really have made me feel so much better! Would STDs show up this early as it only happened 3 days ago? Or would I be waiting a while longer? And can you buy a test yourself or is it 100% you have to go to a clinic/doctor?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,951 ✭✭✭frostyjacks

You'd want a clinic/doctor to be 100% sure, some things are best left to the professionals. Also, if it turns out you did have sex, and don't remember consenting to it, that's another issue to think about.

STIs can show up quite early, bar HIV.

Pregnancy tests at home work just as well as one from a doctor, but for STI testing, you shouldn't use over the counter crap, you should go to a well woman clinic or your GP. your GP cannot tell your parents, you're legally entitled to confidentiality.

Okay thank you, i was wondering because ive heard they can show up up to 3 months after? Also is it normal to feel an almost discomfort in the lower abdomen after the emergency pill? although i think it could be half that im thinking about it so much!

That's HIV that usually takes 3 months to show up, if I remember correctly.

The morning after pill can give you a lot of nausea the day you take it, and can induce an early period, so you may be having bad period cramps.

    Ok, deep breaths.

Firstly, once over the age of 16, any medical professional that you consult cannot discuss your medical information with your parents. This goes for any medical patient, with almost any medical condition. Even if you were diagnosed with a terminal illness for example, a doctor still couldn't tell your family. They would lose their licence if they did stuff like that.

    Now, on to the practicals:

Make an appointment in a well woman clinic or your GP with a female doctor or if that's not an option where you live, you can ask that a female nurse stays with you for the consult. To medical professionals, your privates are just another body part to examine, no different from your ears or throat. It's daunting to make that appointment for the first time, but you'll feel a lot more at ease afterwards.

The discomfort in your abdomen could be anything - most of those possibilities are very simple things - it could be related to the MAP, it could be a small urinary tract infection which is common when sexual activity begins. Or it could just be you paying a bit more attention to your natural cycle because you are looking out for symptoms after what's occurred.

Be brave and make the appointment. It really is the only way that you'll put your mind at ease. Then, when you've the practical side of things sorted, then you can begin to look at the emotional side of things.

she cant even remember if she had sex or not so I don't think she can start accusing this guy of rape now can she?

op you will be grand just watch your drinking in future.

Also if you don't have an well woman clinic near you for whatever reason, just remember that many hospitals also provide screening services and would have drop in clinics. These are all free and they provide great services.

As someone who has been through one, as any reasonable adult should at least once in their lives, what will happen, from my experience (someone else can advise whether it's the same in a well woman clinic), is you'll first be talked to by a nurse, who will ask your full sexual history - tell them everything (I realize that your virginity means it'll be just this), then they'll take you for your examination, and depending on whether it's a full screen or not, they'll take blood and a urine sample.

Don't worry - they will all treat you with the utmost respect and understanding.

Okay so you took the emergency pill so the pregnancy thing is taken care of, the probability of having an STD is really low, there are people who've had sex with tons of people and don't get them ( but obviously don't take the risk because of that), and even if you did get one like the most common sti chlamydia you just take a tablet and kabooom it's gone, yeah definitely try not to think about it you'll probably go crazy with worry over what ifs, keep busy for the next while and say a lil prayer just to help you stop worrying for the next while lolol ( they help honest)

You can even order an STD test online or get a pregnancy test and do it yourself, then you'll have total closure, but I will say pleaaaaase don't stress it's not a big deal, you're not pregnant and don't have an STD.

No matter what, you're healthy, alive, and lucky, now go eat some good food and chillAX be with your fiends and family and watch some gud tv , pm me aaaaany time!

I can't help but feel that this post is littered with bad advice.
Firstly, you couldn't possibly know that she doesn't have an std or is not pregnant, especially when the OP can't even remember about the event themselves. Saying she doesn't have an std or isn't pregnant just to reassure someone, when in reality you don't know ,isn't good advice.
The OP needs to get tested to know for sure, preferably by a professional.
Stds are not always so simple to treat, like you make out in your post and can cause other problems too. They should be seen to early if possible.
OP, could you not just go to your local gp or clinic and get tested. Don't you think your parents would be happier to think that you are healthy and not worried than no longer a virgin(which is only a possibility). This is if you choose to tell them, seeing as you got the emergency pill by yourself.
It would also put your mind at ease.

I'm afraid much of your advice, while well intentioned, is really rather unhelpful and some of it misleading. Please also note that asking any poster to PM you is forbidden. Please read the forum charter before posting again.

The thing is if I definitely knew it happened i would go in an instant, but because im not sure its worrying me a bit more about going, as id be spending around 60 euro on something that may not be there and id be so worried someone would see! Would it be bad to wait to see if my period comes?

Does a well woman clinic charge? Drop in clinics at hospitals don't.

If you go to the GP, then you'd have to pay, same for Well Woman - their prices are on the website. Having said that, if you do attend the clinics that test for STI's they can also reassure you about the cramps I'm sure.

If money for the doctor is an issue and you need to get money from your mum or dad, you could tell them that you think you have a bladder infection - its very common in women of all ages, it can be triggered by lots of things from nylon or thong underwear, sanitary products, skinny jeans, poor wiping after peeing, or some women are just susceptible to them for no reason at all. Its intimate enough that you wont get much of an interrogation from your folks, just say that its stinging when you pee, and google says its a uti. In some cases the GP might prescribe antibiotics, but in mild cases, they'd just advise drinking lots of water, cranberry juice cotton underwear, wiping front to back.

Here is a list of all the STI clinics in Ireland. If I were you, I'd go there as it's free, you can discuss the side effects of what to expect from the morning after pill (you could also chat to any pharmacist confidentially too about that) and the clinic might also be able to do a quick hymen check for you, so you'd know whether you are still a virgin or not. I think it would give you the answers you need right now.

Okay, so say you wait, get a period, realise you're not pregnant so don't go to the well woman at all.

But six months later, find out you have gonhorrea or Chlamydia and now can't have kids due to it being untreated and damaging your fallopian tubes?

Is that risk REALLY worth sixty euro?

Thank you so much honestly, cause my friends think im being dramatic to even worry about it as they definitely think i would remember. Would going to a GP or a clinic amount to the same thing? Like will they both be able to tell me what is going on? As my GP is around the corner which is much easier to get to and I can tell my parents im just feeling a bit off, but i cant really do that for an STI clinic. So sorry about all the questions!

No worries, ask any questions you like :)

If you can go to the GP, can get the fee, and its convenient, then that's probably handiest. You might need to ring to check that they can swab for all the tests you'd get in a STI clinic. No point in going and paying only to get referred on to the clinic anyway. Or if they have a website, you could check that and see if they offer screening for STI. Certainly your GP can reassure you what the cramps might be, and also check your hymen and chat with you about that.

I wouldn't agree with this, people can get so drunk they cant remember having sex, I have blanked out some nights and have absolutely no recollection of the things i have done, loads of people have, if people cant remember kissing people, getting in a fight, falling over, why would they remember having sex?

as regards you not being sore for a few days after, everyone is different, you cant take any chances, you were right to take the morning after pill, and I think you should get checked for std's, better safe than sorry.

Look into the services they provide. Chances are that if they provide drop in clinics it'll be separate to the main hospital. Don't worry about your mother's friends. They won't/shouldn't say anything and will actually be breaking a lot of rules, I believe.

    Edit:

I mention the hospital in case you don't want to go the gp route. However I believe the latter could be best and easier to handle, in case the clinics operate at unconventional times.

Well if you rang and were vague, you could end up handing over money for an appointment and not get the screening you need, only to get referred to the nearest sti clinic. Why not just ring and ask if they do sti screening first, then if they do you can make an appointment and give your name at that point and if they dont, you can thank them and hang up and they will never know who was on the phone?

Yeah ive rang all clinics near me, and they are all booked out for a good few days. I dont think I have an option but to go to a GP, but im a bit worried as ive been going to the same one since I was a toddler. And do I ask for a female doctor than while making the appointment?

Nope, but you can ask on the phone when you confirm the booking. You have taken the morning after pill which is the main one that has time constraints as far as I'm aware?

" pm me aaaaany time!" - falls into this bucket and again at this stage in PI asking/offering to get into PM is a serious breach of our rules and is there specifically to protect not just the OP but also posters who may be taken in by someone not being strictly honest.

the clinic might also be able to do a quick hymen check for you, so you'd know whether you are still a virgin or not. I think it would give you the answers you need right now.

Tbh, a hymen check is pretty meaningless in and of itself; it's extremely common for girls' hymens to be broken long before their first sexual activity. Tampon use, horse-riding, even cycling can all do it.

I'm not trying to dissuade the OP from getting an STI check at all, just to clarify. But just that if she does get a hymen check and it is broken (which it more than likely is, given she was digitally penetrated), it doesn't necessarily mean she had intercourse.

OP, does that clinic have any form of drop-in service? Where an appointment isn't necessary, but you just have to arrive before a certain time. However, given that it's an hour's drive, maybe it's best to go by an appointment or a GP visit, because these drop-in services are operated at a first come-first serve basis and there'd be the chance that you wouldn't be seen at all unless it's an emergency and there's genuine concerns, but I'm not sure if you would fit into this, sadly. Maybe you would, but it would be up to the attending on duty to decide that.

    Hi OP,

You have taken the emergency contraception pill which is the most you can do for pregnacy.

As for the STI check, I would not be concerned with a weeks wait personally. However you might find that the appointment in your own GPs surgery might be more comfortable and a less traumatic experience.

Just to reiterate the GP cannot tell your parents anything once you are over 16.

It is important to have the STI test as sometimes there are no symptoms and they can affect fertility if left unchecked.

That said most people do not get STIs so there is statistically more change of you not getting one than getting one. Just to put your mind at ease while you wait on results. Also most STIs are easily treatable with anitbiotic. Please try not to worry too much about that.

What you should worry about however is your drinking habits. For your own health you need to be much more careful about how much you drink. Drinking to the point of oblivion is both unhealthy and unsafe. You may have had sex and not remember, hopefully that is enough of a shock to make you reassess your drinking. Don't get me wrong we all get drunk and do things we regret especially when we are young. So no need to be ashamed but it would be a shame not to learn the lesson here.

Best of luck with all the tests.

What has hit me earlier today is that i may have been 1 or 2 hours outside the 12 hour emergency pill, is that extremely bad? I have the clinic booked for monday, thats the nest i can do i think and i will go in with a friend. I realize I drank way too much now and am sure I will never let myself get to that state again, with such risks of not remembering anything.

Will the STI check be able to tell if I actually did have sex or not do you know? Cause even though i took the pill i think i may be one or 2 hours out of the 12 hour zone, so am quite worried about that now!

The morning after pill can be taken up to 72 hours after intercourse, and while effectiveness does lessen a little the longer you leave it, it seems like you took it very soon after the event.

God no, you have 72 hours to take the morning after pill! Within the first 12-24 hours, it's most effective, so if you took it say 15 hours after, chances are you'll be absolutely fine once you didn't vomit or have diahrrea after.

Oh okay thank you! Do you know if the clinic can tell if I had sex or not, as in could they let me know immediately do you know?

There's no sure way of knowing. They could probably do a check on your hymen, but that can be broken from exercise, horse riding, using a tampon, fingering, etc. So, no, they probably can't tell you for sure I'm afraid.

Not so early, no. They can give you facts and figures about the likelihood though. The chances of you being pregnant are very slim, though

I had slight diahrrea either this morning or yesterday morning oncen not sure which, could that be from nerves though? It wasnt extreme at all! And i am still so worried so hopefully thats all it was!
