Anyone else applying for Uber?

Just wondering if anyone else on here applied for Uber? I kinda balked at the idea of living in Limerick but then I saw the cheap rents and read up on the employee reviews and it doesn't seem too bad.

I only applied for community support representative and from what I can gather, in America the interview process is a creative exercise, then a phone intervew and a Skype but since this is Ireland there'll probably be an in person interview.

Anyone else have anything to share them?

What is Uber, what qualifications would be suitable?

Limerick city is a lovely city to live in, why would you balk at the idea?

It's basically just a call centre for this American ride sharing service app - requirements in order of importance are university degree > customer service experience > zen desk - have a look here https://www.uber.com/jobs/list?keywords=&location=Ireland

They invited me to apply for the job through Linkedin. I live in Limerick and I really want a job I can move out on, so, yeah I applied. :)

Occono, can I ask what job they asked you to apply for?

I have a screening interview today, has anyone else completed one yet?

    Incident Response.

I was approached by a recruiter on Linkedin.
Did a phone screen, then an exercise another bit of a phone screen and then a Skype interview with the 'Client Manager' (based in Arizona).
Had the in-person interview today. and I'll hear by early next week.
Loads of different bits to it...wasn't really aware when I decided to apply!

Not really a traditional call centre...everything that comes in comes in over email and the only calls would be outgoing if the people working there felt it was warranted based on the nature of the email. Seems like a pretty good place to work, but as it's providing support for UK, Ireland, Africa and the Middle East, I'd say it'll be pretty full on. Shift work too.

Heh, I'm unemployed. Aside from work experience through my college course and secondary school, the only real job I've had was a three month stint in Argos just for the busy christmas period. Nothing to lose.

They are also getting investment from Microsoft so someone there seems to think they'll survive regulation.

Sorry to hear that...I haven't heard either way yet

Is there not a fear they'll be banned in a very short space of time? Germany and the Netherlands have already gone that far.

I wouldn't leave a steady job for it anyway.

I don't think there'll be much fear of it not being a steady job...it's already pretty well established in the Middle East and Africa as well as the UK and that's where this centre will be dealing with...

Actually, do you mind me asking if you'd just had the skype interview, or if you'd had a face-to-face interview too?

I had a phone interview then I did the creative assessment, which according to the email didn't have what they were looking for. :/ I did as best as I could. Didn't do Skype.

Sorry to hear that you're out of the running! They're still going to be hiring over the next 2 years though so you could go again

That's true, and the written exercise was really hard...Kind of seems like it was written to catch people out. I'll be honest, I spent a good 2 hours on it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38 evey3624

Sorry to hear that Occoco, I would definitely try again in the future!!

Can I ask what the creative test entailed? Was it like a presentation or questions? I am hoping to hear today if I was successful at the Skype interview.

To be honest I don't think it went well, it was my first Skype interview and it felt weird and somewhat wodden :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 584 ✭✭✭Skintwin

The exercise was sort of a situational thing. One part had you replying to emails that came in, another part wanted you to rank the priority of emails (different from the first part). Another section was that you get two versions of the same story in, how do you go about trying to find out what actually happened. If you Google it, you won't find the right one, but you'll find an old one as well as some answers of people who weren't successful, I think that really helped, because you could find the tone and style of writing to follow.

    Sounds like fun Skintwin!!

Have you still not heard anything yet? It must be awful just waiting to know if you have got through the last part? Did they said when you would start if you were successful?

Well I only had the in person interview on Wednesday morning, she was doing interviews all day Wednesday and Thursday, I just picked Wednesday morning to be one of the first ones in and to get it over with to be honest! She said that people would be finding out either today or early next week, so every time my phone goes off I nearly crap my pants :pac::pac:
The initial start date for training is the 24th of August, but they'll be starting people every two weeks on a rolling basis until they have reached the numbers they're looking for. I have a holiday booked for September 3rd to 10th, so that shouldn't affect my chances, but if they don't want me leaving in the middle of training I'd be starting on the 21st of September (if I get that it...extremities crossed!!!)
So, if you had the Skype interview, you got through the written exercise? Was it that guy Patrick in Arizona that did the Skype? What did he say at the end of it?

They'll have to...they're hiring an initial 50 people, and the woman that was interviewing could have only interviewed a maximum of 20-25 people in the two days. (She was interviewing 9am to 6pm for two days) They'll definitely have to interview again, bit it could be whoever gets the managers job for Limerick that does the next round of them.

Not really...everything sort of followed the same vein as the written exercise and seeing how you would react to certain situations and stuff...only took about 20 minutes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 584 ✭✭✭Skintwin

Just got the call there, didn't get it. No detailed feedback until the end of the week because they didn't get it from yer one who did the interviews yet.
Apparently I was great, but 'just not what they were looking for'.

    B**ch please. I'm fabulous.

    Did the Skype interview yesterday.

Now very nervously waiting for a call so see what happens next.

It was my first Skype interview. Hard to really judge how it went. It was good but it is hard to know 100% how I came across in comparison to a face-to-face.

Just have to sit and hope for the best now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 51cam

Found out last night that I've reached the final stage. Another 30 minute Skype interview.

For anyone that has passed the Creative Assessment and the 15 minute telephone interview, and is a little nervous about the impending Skype interview, as I was, don't fret.

The Skype interview is very much a follow up on everything you've done so far. Make sure you are framed on screen with nothing distracting behind you. Make sure you won't be interrupted. Be well presented and be yourself. Seems to have worked for me this time around.

Finger crossed now that I clear the final hurdle!

    Hi guys!

TBH Occono, I spend over 4 hours doing the Creative Assessment as I felt if I got past that stage I would be strong enough in the interviews. For the most part, I tried to maintain empathy and common sense throughout each section. I wrote a lot. I wasn't sure how I did with it at the time as I heard a lot of people got similar responses to you but I must have got lucky.

Tippgirl, it was seven days exactly.

    Hi all.

Got a call form a UK outsourcing company acting on behalf of Uber there only willing to pay €30K.

I did Phone Interview then online assessment which is V difficult,

I was unsuccessful also Reply i got " Unfortunately we are not going to be moving forward with your application on this occasion. The assessment that you submitted had some good answers, and offered some strong solutions but there was a number of spelling and grammatical errors. We therefore are unable to move forward to the next stage in the process."

I questioned them on my result regarding spelling as i had used Spell checker i failed on grammatical and sentence structure :(
    Also
Another key reason that we could not proceed was that on the assessment under the prioritization section, we wanted you to explain reasons why you have chosen to put one higher than the other and your answers have only explained the policy from Uber.

Only tips i can give are take your time do a spell check and make loads of reference to Uber on there Safety/Policies etc include website Link.

i think its very harsh being assessed and having to Presume answers with out being fully explained the Background etc.

A quick induction would easily iron out any discrepancies and from past experience most companies use pre formatted templates for Legal reasons,

    Oh well :(

*****Update After not getting the job i get another e-mail yesterday asking me to complete a survey?????wtf Rubbing salt in to the wounds :( and at the end of the survey Would i be interested in applying in the future to Uber?******

Personally i think there Handling of the Application process is flawed as the Criteria is not explained enough.Your CV and experience should be fundamental along with the assessment.
The position is an email based Customer service role.
All emails would need to be Legally binding as there are potential Insurance/Safety/PR issues so im assuming there should be Templates already in place for certain delicate matters etc.

Instead the assessment is based on spelling and grammar they don't advise is it US or UK English (eg)Color or Colour :)so not knowing could sink you.

    Hi all

Just wondered if there was any updates here if they are still undergoing recruitment ? I received a call from the UK ( Wilson HCG ) on 19th August and subsequently sent a creative written exercise for Incident Response representative. I was asked to complete and return the same within 24hrs which I did on 20th August but as of yet haven't heard anything either way .Not sure if this is a god thing or more likely a bad thing ? Any opinions ?

    cheers

    Hi ciarano,

A helpful tip, and I'm not being an ass here, as it will help in the next interview.

If in doubt don't use capital letters in the middle of sentences, e.g. below are all incorrect - company name is OK though. That seems to be the vast bulk of your problem. Lots of people do it, I don't know why, as it should have been hammered into you in school - or maybe it's let slide nowadays. German apparently capitalises all verbs but we speak English.

I also underlined grammatical errors below. I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and presume you are using a phone which is auto correcting, but just showing others where the pitfalls might be.

Also on your comments about having to presume the background - welcome to the real world ! People often give explanations which have nothing to do with the actual problem they are having, and you often have to deduct from them what the problem actually is - e.g. "as soon as it started raining, the car cut out. Therefore there's water getting into the battery". This could be completely wrong.

So I assume the pay is 30k from what people on here have stated. Does anyone have any more info on the typical hours you work? I understand it's a 40 hour week but would that be 9-6 monday to friday or would it be mostly nights and/or weekends? Are they career jobs or more short term temporary jobs?

Why is it the only areas in Ireland that are promoted for locating jobs, year after year, are the South West and Dublin ? Not a very healthy way to run a country.

Received a call from Wilson recruitment but never got an email or any other phone correspondence.
I'd be looking for an incident response position should one come up. Anyone working in that role able to provide any info

Areas aren't promoted. The companies locate where they want to locate and we've little control over it really. The IDA don't have much sway.

Have been offered a job as a Community Support Rep with Uber in Limerick. Does anyone know the shift pattern? I mailed the HR person a few days ago and she hasn't replied. I know that it is 24/7 but that's about it! Hopefully she will get back soon, its pretty important to know these things before accepting an offer, which makes me slightly apprehensive about them to be honest.

Hi posters. Has anyone who has been offered the CSR position possible shed some light on what is expected in the Creative Exercise Uber require from you to get to the next stage of the hiring process. Can anyone offer any insight into what would be expected from Uber in general and does anyone have experience in this that was successful?

Love some feedback. Gotta get this done tonight
