Where is the outcry on here given the treatment of SKY ?

Danielson news is huge; let's hope team doesn't stop over one rider. JV suggested before it might

Come on, why bring sky into this? This thread has literally nothing to do with them.

It's only been an hour since the thread was started, on a bank holiday Monday morning. Everyone is out riding or entertaining the kids !

Not looking good so. Although it's interesting to see that he's taken directly to twitter rather than let the team and his lawyers issue statements.

Vaughters hasn't said a word on twitter about this, but others are being less than sympathetic :

    https://twitter.com/SRichardsonCW/status/628123805936959488

It will be interesting to see how other parties react during the day.

On the one hand you would have to be brain dead stupid to try this again, and TD's twitter plea sounds genuine (but they always do.....) and he does deserve the testing of the B sample at least. On the other hand, we've heard it all before and he is already going with the ' usual excuses '.......the damage to the team could be huge if this has happened under Vaughters watch.

What exactly would you like people to say, that will make you feel better, within an hour of the story breaking ?

Can we leave Sky out of this thread please

Until B sample is tested, is this not doping speculation? :pac:

Or can we speculate like Klondikers given he's a past doper?

It's a discussion on what Danielson has stated in public. He is not going to be suing Boards for a discussion he initiated when he stated he tested positive. Anyway, back on topic please

Well, I think his A sample failed an out of competition test. Call it intuition, or a "hunch" for short.

Be interesting to see what JV has to publicly say on this? Will the sponsors walk away now as he had always claimed?

Will he walk away? His reputation is at stake.

This is from an article published in the NY Times on June 25th...

    http://mobile.nytimes.com/2015/06/26/sports/cycling/us-cyclists-fight-to-spread-their-message-were-clean.html?referrer=
Shortly after retiring, Vaughters launched a developmental cycling squad dedicated to ethical competition. That team has since evolved into Cannondale-Garmin. Early on, the team implemented a stringent doping policy that remains today. If a rider is caught doping, the whole team will be fired.

I appreciate they all live in different parts of he world, but you'd think riders should get all their supplements supplied from the Team centrally to avoid this problem/excuse. Maybe they do already, in which case I'll shut up now

It doesn't matter a flying **** who supplies their supplements. People caught doping blame supplements all the time, because they're liars and cheats. I'd put my house on it that this had nothing to do with supplements and everything to do with Danielson cheating.

Bad news for a bunch of Irish riders if JV folds the team, Ryan Mullen (confirmed), Eddie Dunbar (rumoured), Dan Martin (transfer out unconfirmed)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,301 ✭✭✭gordongekko

    That team won't fold.

But contaminated supplements have on occasion been found to be reason for persons failing tests though.

So cyclist, or any athlete for that matter, fails drugs test and says 'i am innocent', haven't heard that before.

    Only in 99.9% of cases.

If I was a betting man, I'd put my money on him being a cheat.

It's been done before. I think it's the right move. Danielson should be ashamed of himself.

Yeah, it's just TD who's pulled out. Vaughter's probably won't get away with avoiding the media for much longer.

When have contaminated supplements been found, to have been the reason, for an athlete to test positive for synthetic testosterone?

    Daryl Impey's Probencid test?

Impey claimed that the probencid was on an empty gelatine capsule, that he purchased from a pharmacist, who had earlier dispensed probencid to another customer.

Not looking good for Danielson or Garmin, will be close to impossible to explain this one away.

I think JV will be pushing Danielson hard to explain the positive and do a mea culpa exonerating the team. I would say until JV has had his meeting with him, we will be hearing little more until after the B sample.

Danielson has not exactly been setting the world on fire though his main targets are in the next few weeks, Utah/Colorado.

Out of form cyclist panic's and dopes ahead of the most important part of his season?

As with all of these things, we've heard it all before. Off you go Tom, there was cycling before you and there'll be cycling after you.

    excellent stuff here on Danielson

    http://stevetilford.com/

especially the link quoted within the recent blog which makes some very credible points on his history - here's hoping the B sample stands up to scrutiny and we can wave goodbye to this clown

does anyone really believe cycling has changed? Combine this with Irish amateurs testing positive and it just goes to show you depths those down the food chain will go just to be able to hold a wheel in front of them

    So a contamination?

But not of a supplement. Do you believe Danielson's nonsense? Honestly?

Synthetic T is very expensive to make. Most supplements are dirt cheap and either simply whey and sugar or whey, sugar and snake oil. The idea thy synthetic T could somehow make it into an over the counter supplement is laughable.

No, I was just answering the question about contamination.

No, I was just answering the question about contamination.

I asked on what occasion was there contamination of a supplement. So you're not answering the question i asked.

It's been used as an excuse on many, many occasions and I honestly don't think it's ever been true.

    This is his second time.

He is saying it must be something in the supplements. Surely at this point teams should be controlling all this and the responsibility should rest with them to check all food etc.

Absolutely Any team that calls itself professional should be well on top of this.
Heres what I think should happen. If its supplements hes taking off his own bat, then he hasn't a leg to stand on anyway.
But if team supplied, then a positive test should immediately mean all team members are tested. If they took supplements from the same batch, they should all test positive, if not then the is on his own and still fecked.
No excuses for rider or team here.

Iirc the isc say something like 15% of supplements when tested were found to contain prohibited items from the wada list and their advice os to not take supplements at all.

That may well be, but I can't find any reference to supplements containing synthetic testosterone.

I was at a conference on doping about 12 years ago, promoted by the ISC. All Irish sporting organisations were represented. Dick Pound was one of the contributors. There were several other experts there as well. The question of supplements was brought up, by one of the G.A.A. delegation. The unanimous advice of all the experts was very simple: "Don't take supplements"
