Not sure if people have seen this, short version. Audi Galway stuck up competition with the price of 152 Audi A3 Cabrio for weekend(details below from post). Anyway they where due to announce at 3pm today(friday). So they announced that May Lydon won but had deleted the original post which all the people had to share.

Anyway someone made a f**k up. Nobody on facebook called May Lydon, this was pointed out to them by loads of people. What do they do? Only create an account and quickly start adding photo's but put up a man's photo as main photo. Idiots.

I wonder is there some sort of law against this? probably not....anyway check out there page. They are getting hammered.....:P

"To be in with a chance to ‪#‎WIN‬ this amazing 152 ‪#‎AUDI‬ A3 Cabrio for the August Bank Holiday Weekend simply LIKE and SHARE this post and TAG a friend you want to bring for a spin! Don’t forget to LIKE our page as well! Winner will be announced on Friday 31st July at 3pm! Best of luck to all! T&C’s apply."

I've just seen this, too much! ****ing hell, I've seen a couple of these blow up before but this is the most amazingly stupid and from the most high profile company. I'd love if the chap who's pic they've used posted on there with "here, take my pic down off here, you pricks!"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,444 ✭✭✭✭One eyed Jack

Clearly didn't think that one through!

The fake page commented saying the reason they were just created is because they just signed up to enter the comp. Forgot that they created the profile after the winner was announced 😂
Can they be reported for false advertising?!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,252 ✭✭✭Redgirl82

Still trying to dig themselves out of the hole they have created. They have actually posted as "May Lydon" with the following: "Hi guys, this is not a scam. My sister showed me this competition as I was not on Facebook and I joined only to enter the competition. Just my luck I won. I have been in contact with Audi Galway and I'm travelling to Galway tomorrow evening. Thanks for all those who sent me the congrats message. SO HAPPY "

hahaha.....keep on digging lads. I bet the person running that webpage can't wait for long weekend and hope it is all gone away by Tuesday

As posted above account was created after the winner was announced

Why? I've won quite a bit from competitions. This was obviously set up for free advertising but many companies run genuine competitions on social media.

Can't believe that such a high profile company would do that. It's quattroubling.

*In my defence all the best puns have been long taken.

How do people think they can get away with that? Seem to remember some other company pulling something similar about a year ago and it coming unstuck. It probably goes on all the time giveaway a ridiculously good prize get a load of attention and then have a friend "win".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 617 ✭✭✭snowbabe

    It was Denis Mahony. http://shaneoleary.me/blog/index.php/attempt-to-drive-facebook-likes-backfires-on-car-group/

I wouldn't consider buying as much as a tyre cap off them after that stunt.

Again that was Audi trying to cover their tracks. Her name is 'May' yet there's a man as her profiler and the web address is Facebook.com/John.moran. Idiotic.

Wasn't that some jewellers did that?

May Lydons one friend has also won a prize. She'll be collecting it from the nearest social welfare office on Monday morning.

Not sure I remember a lady won and then after a few moaning posts she started replying as admin and they came out with some excuse saying the added her to the page so she could delete comments or something. At least that one was just slightly slightly believable.

    EDIT: Found it

It's amazing a company will mess up its reputation for a few hundred euros (I.e. Just let a genuine / real punter win and drive the car for the weekend, rather than a fake profile). If this is how they behave on social media, how could you trust them with your car?

Dear god...if you're going to make a fake woman's profile at least put up a picture of a woman..

    https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...95&oe=5648F43F

Looks surprisingly like the guy in the cover picture on their twitter page too (can't link from here, but it's @audigalway )

Has the May Lyndon profile been deleted?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,810 ✭✭✭✭jimmii

To make it worse people are still entering. Does make you worry about humanity even if they don't know its a scam they can surely read the end time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,974 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

I entered just for the sake of entering as I'd been tagged. It was worth liking the page just to follow the controversy on the now deleted announcement comment!

Sh*t "news" website TheLiberal.ie did this with an iPhone competition that a mate of theirs "won" a while back.

They also didn't report on the result of the Marriage Referendum because it didn't turn out how they wanted it to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,810 ✭✭✭✭jimmii

I would imagine this article will be the first of many. Must be pretty awkward over there right now probably expecting a call from a German number telling them to just go home.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,925 ✭✭✭✭anncoates

    Terrible.

Because a real person generally always wins the expensive consumer item in these spamshare competitions.

Indeed, just ask my friends John Smith, Mary Murphy or Randomly Generated Name O'Reilly who all won competitions recently.
