Car aircon service €45

That time of year that both cars need a service and after getting 1st car done at main dealer trying to save on the 2nd. Already wrote about the dealrush/mechanic on duty deal in another topic, but was very happy with the service for €79 http://www.dealrush.ie/deal/10573
However that car also needed the aircon looked at. Had that done a while ago through a groupon deal, but the aircon stopped working again 3 months later.
Feared a big issue like a leak or compressor so looked for a specialist. Just by googling found http://autoaircon.ie
Their service includes everything and is not just a top-up (see link for details) for less than the price of a DIY can of refrigerant in halfords. Seemed like last service no oil was added that's why it stopped working. Anyway probably not a bargain that's of use for a lot but still worth posting I thought.

Got mine done today with this firm, delighted the air con is back functioning again. Tomasz did a good job and tested it professionally afterwards.
    Cool happy days are back!

Got a 2 bikes from them in the last 3 years, have to say they rust pretty quickly, they're kept in a wooden shed but it's not exactly moisture free. All the handlebars, seat pillar, spokes, brake calipers have a good bit of rust...you'd think these days they'd be able to stand up to rust a bit better, I had a bike as a kid I don't think it ever rusted (cheap enough type) Any how no more bikes from Halfords for us...

First stop do AC recharge for 40e. If the AC doesn't work after filling they don't charge

Apparently its 75 euros if you just walk up, still fairly good.

So if they break it, they don't charge. Is that what you are saying?

No, what he means is if there are any leaks in the system they won't charge. It's impossible to fully regas a unit that has a leak.

Check the link I posted, for the extra €5 you get a whole lot more (vacuum, pressure test, compressor re-oiling, ozone treatment etc). As I wrote a recharge/top-up got my air con working for a few months -so first stop can easily make that promise- will they refund if it stops after a few weeks though?
If you only need a top-up fine, but if your air con is actually not working I'd rather get it checked & fixed properly.
Come to think of it; the (useless) top-up I got before was €29 so first stop is actually expensive...

First stop do a pressure test and a vacuum test and top up the oil and AC dye. For 10e more you get the aerosol that cleans the ducting. If everything is working at the time of filling then it usually means everything is golden. If you go back after 3 months with it not working I presume they would check it FOC but if there is a problem then they don't have the equipment to diagnose it so you would have to get it sorted elsewhere but they should fill it FOC after its been fixed as they did for me.
Pressure switches and compressors can go at any time.

Why the aggression towards them ted1?

Any link of that offer? Can't see anything on their site or what their service includes. You wrote "re-charge" and I assumed you meant just adding some refrigerant. That would not really be a like-for-like comparison. Still would like see to see some more detailed info on their website though, a price to start with maybe...

If you have to walk up I think the aircon is the least of your problems...

I would say that it is not as cold as it once was but that you have gotten used to it as it gradually got worse. An AC system generally loses 10% per year so yours may only be operating at 70%

Got my ac done in first stop santry. Stopped working a month later, brought it back for them to have a look. They said that it was probably something like a compressor but regassed it again to be sure.
Turned out it was a sensor and had to be regassed a third time. Brought it back and did it again. Saw him doing it the third time, Bosch machine that has two leads. Hooks it up and takes about 50 minutes. He said it did everything like oil etc but I'm no expert. Cost me €39 for the initial service and rest were free.

Chappy yesterday indicated the oil and gas are as important and need to be done together. Any price under 50€ is good in my book for this service, time will tell how long it fares. He did say to service it every 3 yrs, mine hasn't been been working in 5 yrs! I will be using every day from now on to keep it circulating.

This price in here http://autoaircon.ie/?page_id=7&lang=en is for recharge and ozone cleaning for your health (bad smell to). I dont think that First stop doing this. Its very important and good machine to do this is needed. Aircon should be refiled yearly this will make you aircon working perfect all the time, less you are using aircon then more likely to have problems with compreson, leaks, bad smell etc. as oil in gas will keep sealings in good condition when running. The best is runing auto all year just adjust temperature.

Just took advantage of the aircon service. Great value and Tomas is a very decent, professional chap. Aircon smells much fresher and is ice cold. €45 is steal for the service.

Wish there was something around Limerick like that. Everything seems quite a bit north of that pricewise!

Firststop do the same, not just a regas.

Ok I was gonna leave the firststop/autoaircon discussion, however I actually rang firststop (Swords) last week and was told their (official) price is now €60, the €40 was last years offer. After I questioned this he did tell me he would do it for €40, still doesn't included the ozone treatment though...

Yes, and €45 included the ozone treatment.

I used auto aircon - no issues. Good service from Tomas at a clean little unit in parkwest.

Checked for leaks (none) then charged the whole thing. €45 all in can't complain. Air con running lovely and cool again. Thanks op.

im not sure that my car has proper "aircon" as such, more like just normal hot/cold air vents. is this going to help me or is it for the more "fancy" aircon / climate control setups?

I got this done on my car from first stop (known for being sensitive to low levels of gas) and about 30 mins later realised the drivers side was warm and passengers side cold - exactly the symptoms of not enough gas. Haven't had a chance to go back but pretty annoyed and reckon they'll be looking for another €40 off me :(

Will be of no help unless you have AC, there needs to be a compressor in the car to refridgerate the gas and then spread it thorough the vents. If there's no AC button there's almost certainly no air conditioning. What car is it?

its an 02 golf so i doubt there is. i guess i must have a bigger issue so.

Morning, based on the recommendations above l went to Tomasz in Parkwest this morning for the e45 deal. Premises kept spotless. Using latest equipment. Process took circa 40 minutes. Did vaccuum, changed oil in compressor, uv tracer used, regas and finally ozone treatment in car cleaning bacteria. Car is a joy to be inside. Tomasz a gentleman and explained the process. Professional operation, l recommend. Regards... Alan.

Give him a buzz before hand - he offered to do mine straightway but had to collect little fella from a summer camp before hand.

Rang to make a booking later in the week but he was free then so I just popped straight over. Took around 30-40mins.

Went today, on the back of the recommendations here. Did a great job, nice cold A/C again and the ozone treatment has spruced the car up enough inside that I no longer need an air freshener.

He runs a UV dye through the systems so should be able to detect the leak, he will steer you towards someone if it is beyond his remit.

Got it done myself this evening. Very quick, talked me through everything he was doing. Liked my car, said it was nearly a record for a car that age. Also the amount of oil that was gone, and how dark it was, another record. Can't win em all I suppose.

Got mine done this morning. Went from seemingly having no refrigerant which would explain why it was useless to being icy cold. I'd definitely recommend Tomasz for air con.
