    Just in from Pat Murphy

Thursday 30th July a must watch “Coast” programme including Howth and the Tayleur.

The new BBC2 series of the popular “COAST” programme has been shown over the last three Thursdays.

Episode 4 to be shown on Thursday next 30th July at 20:00 hours (8pm) is entitled “The Irish Sea” and includes the ASGARD landing of arms and ammunition for the Irish Volunteers in Howth on 26th July 1914. This was, most agree, the main ingredient leading up to the Easter Rising in 1916. The ASGARD is now conserved in the National Museum in Collin’s Barrack, Dublin and can be highly recommended for a visit, see attached.

Also included, I believe, is the sinking of the RMS Tayleur a full rigged iron clipper ship chartered by the White Star Line. She was large, fast and technically advanced. She ran aground on Lambay Island and sank on her maiden voyage in January 1854. Of more than 650 aboard, only 290 survived. She has been described as "the first Titanic".
