Active USB extension cables with 3G dongles ?

Currently using a 3m regular USB cable on my TP Link 3420.
Need to move to another location where a 5m cable would work better.
They have 5m active USB extension cables in Maplins.

Has anyone any experience using USB dongles on these leads with 3G routers ?

My initial thoughts would be that the TP Link wouldn't supply enough power through the USB ports. I find I even get better speeds when I disable WiFi on the router, so I'm guessing the additional power drain of an active lead, together with the extra length, would be a no no ?

Does anyone use a plain 5m cable into a router ?
