Shame could save on straw in the spring if you could calve on them. Still thought cheap option for rapid expansion.

I wouldn't think so. Schmallenberg seems to have rattled through the herd.

Last autumn calving today. Carryover heifer, quiet enough in the parlour thankfully. Nothing due till 1st Feb except one little fooker of heifer who is due Xmas day uuughh, little bullock who twice got brought home from the mart as a calf, and obviously didn't get squeezed correctly did the damage. Only a month early at least, but not at all a fan of mistakes as such.

    does d value equal dmd?

You'd eat first cut yourself looking at that. What was the story with it? grazed/slurry/fert/cut date

For some reason I think to convert d value to dmd you add six but I could be completely wrong on that.

Think dmd will be slightly higher than d value . Most of ot was grazed at least once by cows got lagoon slurry at some stage in spring. Closed between the 1 and 10 of april got 80 units of n and some k and cut 20th of may. Every thing was tedded once and only on the ground between 24 and 36 hrs

Just checked last years diary, this day last year dried off the whole herd after 4 weeks of OAD. Didn't realize how cushy I had it.
As of today 50% more milk produced than this time last year, will be close to 58% by the time herd is dried off. (Kgs solids produced up 40%, will be close to 50% by dry off)

Sorry, Jesus no. Up 25% on the herd. 40% of the herd are 1st calvers. 10%extra ground gone to cows.
To date 12% increase in meal, ( 400 up to 450kgs) but now fed FTY. No buffer

Ours are getting silage twice a day at milking and nuts.

Still out full time but grass probaly only 30% of diet.

Will be probably in full time in less than two weeks.

Ours will probably go in on Monday so I can say they were out until November ☺

Enough till 12/15 November full time here ,sheds out of bounds for another week as doing a bit of building .could do with a bale now as yield dropping steadily ,still 18.3 ltrs and 1.72 kg solids on all grass and 3 kg nuts ain't too bad for late October .grass growth unreal for time of year too

Cows started getting silage before milkings here yesterday. Alot of rain here sun and Monday. Big sprint on to do the jobs in the sheds that should have been done over the last 8 months.Tomorrow will have everything sorted. Going to dry off a big bust of 1st calvers next week, and put them in full time.
Have enough grass lined up on Out farm to keep weanlings out till Christmas, maybe into January.
The incalf heifers coming back from contract rearer and will go in over the weekend. Incalfs going in a bit early, to try a build up enough grass on the rearers place for weanlings to go there mid January. Should work well if we can pull it off.
Milkers will probably start in at nights in the next few days aswell. That will keep me in grass by day for them till the 20th of November.
    Some autumn for grass.

    3.5 kg meal
    6 kg grass
    8/10 kg silage
    1.75 kg milk solids.

As frazzled, growth matching demand. Cows will be housed by night from tomorrow, and will stay out by day until cover comes down to 600. About two weeks time. I will then start drying off the first calvers due to calve again in January.

All lame cows pulled out for hoof trim tomorrow morning.

Some are going to be culled and any early calving young cows dried and rested. Have a few first calves nesd a rest so tubes by end of week.

We've a paddock they've never grazed out properly all season will do these till they soak and then into shed with in calf heifers.

Bull weanlings wi go this week so a bit of paperwork to be done also. With the evenings closed in its early mornings for the next week to catch up. Heifers accommodation only starting to be power washed tomorrow.

Got all fym spread yesterday and today. Still spreading dairy washings after cows when time allows.

Only 6 winter ladies left to calve. Will turn all cubicle mats next week aswell, long days work for two of us Slowly getting on top of things
