Question about incubated hens.

    Hi I have a quick question and I am sorry if it maybe sound stupid or asked before.

    Anyway will a hen that was incubated in a machine become a broody hen when older and hatch chicks of her own?

    AFAIK what matters is the breed on the hen. Not how they were born/reared.

    Most chickens you buy will have come from an incubator.....as an incubator does the exact same as a broody hen and the hatched chicks are exactly the same in either case.

    Not all hens go broody. Some breeds are more prone to it (google is good at lists of these) but even then there is no guarantee a broody hen will be a good broody hen (some abandon or just sit with eggs to side!)

    Positives of a broody hen over an incubator is cost (no incubator or electricity and she will do all the work!) positives of incubator over hen is you can't make a hen go broody where as incubator will do the job!
