    The only people who can tell the op if a cancelled card can still be charged (in the case of a legitimate debt) is the card company. He needs to ask them.

    But he will owe the money regardless and might be pursued for it by other means.

    The point being made is that the OP cant just cancel a card to avoid a payment which is due. The poster i responded to seemed to equate scams and contracts equally.
