Woeful haircut

We've probably all had the bad ones - but I got the mother of all bad haircuts about a month ago!

My hair is fine (as in, my hair construct is fine), but it was actually looking pretty good and healthy, and I asked for a cut that trimmed the front of it in some layers, and just left the back straight.

I ended up with random bits chopped all over the place from the back. I said I'd let it grow, and it would sort itself out, but, even after a month it's not great because it's very humid where I am, so I just have bits sticking out every which way. You would not believe the layers I was given on the back of my head.

I'm going to have to wait another month I guess until I can do something about it. Have you guys got hair disasters?? And - even more so - have you got hair disasters when you were out of your teens!?! I'm fairly fecked off about this. :(

I had my hair cut up pretty short lately, and while most of it was fine, she took a big lump of hair from around the nape of my neck. I didn't even notice it myself, my boyfriend pointed it out. Most of my other hair disasters have been self-inflicted, such as some DIY balayage that wrecked my long hair :o

If I were you I'd look at Pinterest for pictures of what you want, and bring them into the salon next time (even screenshots on your phone). Sometimes a visual is more helpful than trying to explain it in words.

I made the mistake when I was about 19 of going to a hairdressers and telling her to do whatever she wanted with my hair - just not a fringe. Guess whoended up with a big sweeping side fringe? I have a calf's lick and while it probably looked grand in the hairdressers, me tryin gto blow dry it myself was a disaster. The photos of that particular Christmas still give me cold shivers, it took forever to grow back! I haven;t been very adventurous with my hair since then at all.

I had my hair died orange - yes, ORANGE - the day of my debs :( The fact that I meekly handed over money for that butchery still makes me mad

Yeah, had loads of disasters, being a child of the 80's and a teen of the 90's. :o

but the funniest ever was my then 14 year old sister who went to the hairdresser asking for something like this and ended up with this instead.

    :D

When I was about fourteen I decided to go for a dramatic change and had my below shoulder-length straight hair cut into what was supposed to be a cool pixie-ish cut, like this:

but what ended up being a less flattering version of this:

It was so bad - there was even a tuft right on top of my head that stuck straight up all the time.

    :(

Not exactly a disaster because I loved it at the time but I coloured my short hair blond. Which would be fine except my eyebrows are very pronounced and black. I rock short hairstyles though so if I don't like something I can still cut my hair really short and I will be fine. My problem is more that I couldn't be bothered getting out of bed earlier to style my hair and I don't overly like going to the hairdresser so I am usually a bit more grey than I should be. They just gave up on me now and suggested highlights.

I thought I'd try something different in my early 20s and asked for copper highlights.... didn't expect them to be so orange! :( I remember desperately washing my hair over and over with Head & Shoulders before going to work, as I'd heard it would strip the colour. It didn't!

More recently, I made the mistake of cutting my own (side) fringe. I completely butchered it! Was clipping it back for weeks!

I got a voucher for a salon I'd never been to. I had balayage at the time so I went in and asked for mid brown on top with a dark blonde running through the bottom. My hair is naturally dark brown but they literally died it practically black on top and instead of dying the bottom, they used lightener which strips the hair of colour prior to the hair being dyed. When they were drying it, I was horrified because it was bright orange and when I pointed this out they just ignored me. So I ended up with black and orange hair, it was the worst ever and I was going on holidays two days later so had to put up with it. I can remember being so angry because they knew it wasn't dye they were using and they didn't give a fck how bad it looked. I did my own hair for ages after because I was terrified of hairdressers.

I have poker straight long hair.

I sympathise with anyone getting layers, because they can go so horribly wrong.

I was 16 the first time I got layers. My sister had it done. And I thought it was gorge.

But the hairdresser cut mine too short - the shortest layer was about an inch or 2 from my scalp. Nearly died in shock. Especially (like the OP), the hair just stuck out all over me head. I was called scarecrow in school for a bit lols.

Anyways, when it grew out/down (1/2 months), it looked fabulous, so dont give up OP!

Had a Page-boy style at one stage not long before I was a teen, hated short hair, I always try and keep it as long as possible now. Had a huge big frizzy perm at another stage, thought I was the bees knees only I never realized until many years after that I resembled a poodle or something.:pac::o:D

Actually it's kinda cool to think that I've always had a fringe as a youngster, and you would never in a million years have imagined that a feicing fringe actually grows hah. :p Hard to imagine it is possible for a fringe to grow out! And hair now has always been the one length all my adult-hood zero fringe in situ no sirreee! I wonder what would I look like now if I cut in a fringe into it again.:pac: Must see can I find 1 of those Photo-fit Passport thingies with all the different hair-styles for a laugh. Think someone mentionned a couple of Websites on a Thread here before that ya can try out different hair-styles on yourself, must see can I find them.

Cheers. Yeah - I can reach back in my head and find layers that have no reason for existing! I am pretty sure that the person who cut my hair is a psychopath - but I'm having high hopes that it will all look super-awesome when it grows a bit more. It looks grand when I dry it, but after I hit the outside world and humidity, it turns into a pile of random. Sometimes I think it's edgy, and the rest of the time it looks like I've been pulled through a hedge by a lawnmower on speed.

    Glad I'm not alone though!!
