Galaxy note 5

I'm surprised no thread has been created for this yet.

Anyway all the reports are saying the galaxy note 5 will be unveiled along with the galaxy s6 edge plus on the 12th august. Apparently Samsung have decided to do this to avoid the problems they had with it clashing with the iphone last year. Apparently it will go on sale on the 21st.

    Specs of it include:-

    - thin bezel
    - glass back like the s6
    - 4gb ram
    - if renders are correct, no USB-C standard micro-usb
    - non-removal battery and no SD card slot
    - 4100mah battery
    - 5.7 qhd screen
    - exynos 7422 with 2k display.

Best place for some of this information

    Any thoughts anyone on this?

Was the Galaxy s6 edge not unveiled already?

I love my note 4. Could do without wanting a note 5 already ☺damn them!

Auto S-pen eject when a relevant app is selected. ..

Non removable battery I could probably live with. I really prefer an sdcard slot though. Cant see a reason to move from my Note 4 yet anyway.

I'm the opposite tbh. I have a spare battery for my note 3 and switch out once a day now. I am a heavy user mind you!

    Sorry you're right.

It's the s6 edge plus being unveiled with 5.5 inch screen and 3000mah battery.

I've owned every Note since the original and currently very happy with my Note 4 - but to be honest in day-to-day use it's only an incremental update from the Note 3 I had beforehand (I'm not interested in the S-pen stuff. The bigger screen and higher spec/performance is what I'm interested in).

The above specs for the 5 seem to be a retrograde step.. non-removable battery, no MicroSD. Bigger battery fair enough but worth shelling out 6/700 for?

Think I'll stick with what I have this time round unless I get it free. I'm actually far more interested in the Continuum mode of the upcoming WP10 flagship (rumoured to be on par spec/size-wise with the Note 4). Being able to hook it up to a screen and use it as a Windows Desktop sounds cool!

Non removable battery and no expansion is not good.
I think I'll stick with my note 4 and wait to see what the 6 is like.

I don't mind the non-removable battery as I'm usually in the car or at my desk most of the day but the memory card is a big thing for me. I have a load of crap on my phone between music, photos and movies. Everything backs up to the cloud and all that but in Ireland there's not always a guarantee of decent web access. The reason why I chopped in my OPO was because I wanted instant access but looks like the Note 5 will be the first Note model I might pass on unless there is a high capacity model easily available. Usually Ireland is limited to the basic ones.

Non removable battery I can live without if its a high capacity one say 4000mah with fast adaptive charging
No SD card is a deal breaker, Im currently using the Note Edge and will stick with it if there is no Note 5 edge that would be a shame as the possibilities for the edge screen are great... I love my Note edge its a multitasking powerhouse.

No sd card and no removable back cover probably means I'll be staying with my note 4 for a while yet.

3 are wanting me to renew my business contract with them atm, whilst having no problems sticking with them as my provider, I didn't want to upgrade just yet, as I felt the note4 wasn't a substantial enough step up from my note3, and also didn't want to be stuck with an outdated phone for 18months when the 4 was released.

Ill wait for more solid details, but not liking the non removable battery rumour, and unsure about a glass back. I've did well not to have shattered the screen on my note 3 yet, a glass back just offers me double the things I could break.

I'm due an upgrade on my work phone, I think I'll hold out for the Note 5, I already have the S6 Edge as a personal phone. The lack of a SD card is a massive thing for me as well, I find it the easiest way of adding media to phones.

If the rumours about the non removable battery are correct, that would mean there'd obviously not be much access to the rear, inside of the phone (no removable cover)

It'd be great if Samsung finally released one of their flagship devices that didn't lose the ability to lock on to gps after some months.

Had to go to a real arse end of nowhere location out in north county Dublin yesterday, and was cutting it fine to get their on time, of course the bloody gps on my note 3 wouldn't lock on to a satellite, no matter how many times I switched the phone on/off restarted maps/cleared maps cache/ turned gps off/ on.

Obviously when I was a half mile from home, it locked in seconds again. It's the one solitary thing that annoys me about Samsung's.

Had a Note3 for over a year and never once has a GPS issue, either on stock or custom. Have you switched on everything for location rather than "device only"?

I just usually open maps, pull down screen and touch the location setting there.

But this morning, I've sent settings/location/on and it's locking in seconds.

Surely this can't have been my issue?

Edit, it's now back to not locking at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,865 ✭✭✭✭MuppetCheck

Seems it might have an SD card slot after all.

    Issue fixed.

I had to get a very, very small Philips head screwdriver and disassemble part of the phone, but it seems two little prongs inside the phone werent making a connection with their circuits, attached to the gps antenna, and I had to bend them up again to make full contact. (Prob from dropping phone, or being in my pocket a lot)

Phones back to its usual 3/4 second gps locking time, and I now won't feel guilty when handing the phone over to my dad (now that everything is working again) when my upgrade lands, considering he'll be upgrading from a Samsung Ace (or something like that) to my note 3, I'm sure he won't know himself.

Was all set to move to this from note 3. Not so sure now if battery and SD card true

My old man recently upgraded from a nokia. The touch screen is confusing him :)

    Completely agree with you.

I was going to switch from a OnePlus one to this but now I'm thinking seriously about the galaxy note 4

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 647 ✭✭✭Am I Evil?

I'm seriously disappointed tbh. I had the Note 3 for a while and moved to a oneplus. I was waiting for the note 5 for my next upgrade but now thats definitely out the window.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,695 ✭✭✭flangemeistro

I had the note 3 for 18 months and thought the battery was atrocious.

It was my third Samsung in a row and i needed a break from touchwiz while i waited to see what the Note 5 had to offer so i sold it and bought an Lg G Flex and after today's leaks I'll be sticking with it longer than i planned.

It's like they've run out of ideas, they're basically doing what all android users used to slag Apple for when you actually couldn't tell the difference between the IPhone 4 and Iphone 5.
They have definitely plateaued and users can only put up with so many extra megapixels, gigs of ram, ppi and cores before they start questioning why they are actually upgrading.

It looks like the innovation has vanished in Samsung and when you take a look at the Lg G4 and new Moto x style you wonder how long more Samsung can rely on their users loyalty to remain as the android king.

I'm not sure what the point is of the S6 Edge+ .. is it not just competing with the Note 5?

Either way there's not much in it vs the Note 4. The problem is phone development has plateaued like PC development did years ago (eg: I'm temporarily using a 5 year old DELL E6410 that with 8GB and an SSD is just as capable at most things that my new E7450 will be) so "new" phones are just incremental CPU upgrades, higher res screens (which I think is pointless - I mean, it's still a phone not a huge HD TV) etc

Think I'll stay put with the Note 4 unless something else catches my fancy.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,839 ✭✭✭Caovyn Lineah

I think the vast majority of Note 4 users will be sticking with it after the announcement. There is nothing so far that makes me want to switch over. From the leaks we have read, is there any improvement over the N4?

Dare I say, I think galaxy note 4 is the better option of the 2

It'll have to drop a bit when the new one comes out, otherwise they can't charge the premium for the new one. Unless there's a price jump which seems unlikely given the small changes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,865 ✭✭✭✭MuppetCheck

Judging by the S6 prices I can't see this being cheap. Traditionally Note prices don't really drop much when a new model comes out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,695 ✭✭✭flangemeistro

Had a quick look at the Note Edge prices last night just for the novelty factor and it is absolutely stupid money.
Think I'll be waiting for the LG G Flex 3 due in March.

I got the Note 4 two weeks ago & am delighted with it. Did not want to wait another mth & then pay a big price for the Note 5 upgrade.

I'd imagine that the price of the note4 should drop when the 5 hits the streets, no?
