Horrific for the families of the marines.

Still unclear if it was a random act of violence or calculated terrorism, or both.

    Chattanooga? Reminds me of this.

Krusty: OK, memorize these funny place names: Walla Walla. Keokuk. Cucamonga. Seattle --
Homer: [laughs] Stop it, you're killing me! [laughs more] Seattle.

The gunman, who was shot dead, was named as 24-year-old Mohammad Youssuf Abdulazeez by the FBI and local reports said he was born in the Middle East.

I would say all bets are off.

I am. I give to the homeless on a regular basis, sponsor a couple of disabled kids who are in respite clubs and today I'm bringing my nephew out to a play centre for the whole day on my only day off from a job where I work 12 hours a day. You, on the other hand, seem like someone who loves nothing more than taking offense at every turn online. Noticed you all over outrage threads lately championing causes. I wonder do you actually do anything in real life. Have a good day.

I guess all that makes it okay for you to mock murder victims with Simpsons quotes.

surely killing american soldiers is what al qaeda/is/the illuminati should be doing? it's far better than killing civilians. these marines were part of a machine that is swanning around the world killing people. they weren't innocent, they were a legit target.

Who did I mock? You're making stuff up now. Said the town's name reminded me of that scene. I don't know any US Marines, not gonna feign grief and say they'll be in my prayers. And as for your attempted point, doing decent stuff in real life most definitely trumps saying anything on an anonymous forum. Be great if a lot of these online warriors could see that.

You're right, that brilliant Simpsons quote (which is literally the funniest thing anyone can do, you're such a laugh, honestly you're mad) is absolutely the appropriate immediate response to the news of a mass murder and not the least bit mocking. And doing good things in real life makes it okay to anonymously act the prick online.

    You win.

    You're awesome.

    ****ing christ.

maybe the shooter should have dropped a bomb on a chattanooga wedding party instead, we could be talking about how collateral damage is a sad necessity instead of arguing over whether soldiers are a justifiable target.

Oh sorry, I didn't realise that the shooters motives had been established yet. You should contact the FBI immediately with the information you possess

Isn't that what the Troubles were?

IRA and British Army randomly shooting each other?

He wasn't Muslim. He may have claimed to be, he may have even tried practicing. A true Muslim wouldn't go killing random people.

Do things usually change completely when you copy and paste them? You might be doing that wrong.

Anyway I stand corrected. You can't do better.

marines aren't soldiers. But yeah, it's dumb that even attacks on uniformed military counts as terrorism

You've either never heard of the "No true Scotsman" fallacy, or you haven't watched a newscast since 2000.

I'll ask again then, if some popped up to the Curragh and killed a few of the lads up there, would that be ok?

  • Site Banned Posts: 2,922 ✭✭✭Egginacup

I would say all bets are off.

Since when is attacking military targets terrorism?

The word terrorism has been conflated to apply to anything from protesting environmental damage to getting drunk on a ****ing plane so that the word now has zero meaning.

Well if males in the Middle East aged 17 to 70 are legitimate targets to be blown to pieces by US drones even if they are at a wedding then surely US military personnel IN uniform and most certainly part of the military machine, are legitimate targets too. I'd like to hear why you would think otherwise. Could you explain?

That may be, and I'm sure there are many (the majority) peaceful Muslims out there,
but there is a problem that the Muslim community aren't doing enough to combat - and that's this radicalization.

Is there a sympathy toward them or what ?

And now this will become a thread about the IRA. And about how Muslims are bad. And about how gun control is OK/not OK in America. And the conversation will continue, same as always, even after the world has stopped talking about it, because people here love the same rehashed arguments.

It certainly would if the Irish Government had Irish troops invading other countries and killing civilians on a daily basis.

So fcuking what? Whoopeedoo. They're so unique! So special! The few! The proud!

Why is the onus on the Muslim community to combat extremists?
Is the onus on the Italian diaspora to combat the fcuking Mafia is Sicily?
Are the Japanese of the world to write a strongly worded letter to the Yakuza?
