Hope you are all looking forward to this one as much as I am. Jack Nicklaus designed and host venue to the Solheim Cup and Ladies Irish Open, Killeen Castle is one of the finest golf courses in the country.

This is an expensive one folks, so with the great sponsorship we received from NRC Taxis we will be able to subsidise the round cost. As mentioned before, preferential rates are going to be afforded to regular attendees. I will post rates later.

There is plenty of room at this one for any visitors who would like to attend. Tee times in the morning are reserved for members, so we have the box straight after they have finished at 13:30. Teamer messages have just been sent out, so make sure you sign up early.

One of my favourite courses in the country, a real strategic test of golf. Quite open off the tee for the most part, the real test is in the second shots. It's a typical Nicklaus course, so missing the green on the wrong side can easily rack up a big score.

Accuracy here is key, played here with my 80 year old Dad last year and had my ass handed to me, he wasn't long off the tee but his irons (often his third shot) were always close.

3d Flybys of all 18 holes are here http://www.golfgraffix.com/Killeen_Castle_App/index.php?id=fl

Ok folks, so after discussions with my esteemed committee colleagues and planning our budget for the next few events, the rates are as follows.

Members who have played at least 3 of the first 6 events this year (most of you) €45
    Other Members will pay €50
    Guests will pay €60.

The world is against me this year, not going to make this outing either or Carton. Feeling left out as the society seems to have really kicked off this year with the new members and the top courses. Haven't golfed in 3 weeks, and I'm crying here thinking of Killeen Castle. Enjoy everyone, super course, bit of a long walk, food is good also. Hope you get the weather for it.

Despite the good rates negociated by the society unfortunately I can't play as will be at wedding in the west but out of interest what tees will you be using? Whites I hope as kind of defeats the purpose of going to a long championship course (longest course in Ireland off the black tees) and teeing it forward off the winter/society tees.

Normally I would agree but this courses defence is not so much the length but the approach shots. I was there recently and the rough was up, not only the deep native but the 3 inch stuff was juicey.

For our level as a group I would say there is plenty of a challenge off the society tees. Actually I think it is a more of a strategic test of the shorter tees. Keeping it in play off the tee is only the start, greens are so good and a real test of iron play.

Just my two cents, either way I am happy to play, I just love this course.

i have just declined on teamer. twinged my hamstring in the Junior Cup matches at the weekend and I dont want to risk aggravating the injury with the connacht finals in 3 weeks time. Going to put the feet up and watch The Open for the weekend instead.

Hopefully see you for the Monty :)

yes that's right. your fee is still being subsidised, but preference has to be given to those who have played more in the order of fairness.

no problem bringing guests, please pm me with their names & handicaps. they will be charged 60

Spoke with Paul Mc Canny today, the head pro at Killeen. He reckons if as a society we are averaging around an 18 handicap, then the whites will be fine.

Black, Blue, White, Green. They run an open once a month for Black Sunday.

I guess Greens are the normal society tees, but if they let us (sometimes we are just told what to play), we will definitely play at least off the Whites.

Anyone want to go for Blues????? :D:eek:
