I have returned to wearing classic 501s with 32 waist and 32 leg.
No fuss, very comfortable, look good and last ages and will never go out of fashion unlike bootcut jeans, skinny jeans, torn jeans, faded jeans etc etc etc. over the past 10 to 15 years.
You can wear them with a t-shirt, hoodie, casual jacket and trainers or with a sports jacket and shirt and formal shoes so they are for all occasions.
I now think other styles of jeans look ridiculous.
I recently bought two pairs - dark and light blue.

    What do you wear?

Levi 569, GANT 'Jason' fit and Tommy Hilfiger.

I've found all of the above to last for ages without losing their colour. Usually pick them up on sale as there's no way I'd be willing to pay the full retail for them.

Tommy Hilfiger for me. They always last a good few years and keep their colour and shape

    +1

I have two, one pair that are about 3 years old and a newer pair I bought in January. The old pair look almost identical to the newer ones, even after three years of wearing and washing.

Been wearing 501s for the last 20+ years. 32x32.

Bought a pair of Tommy Hilfiger 'Mercer' cord jeans recently. Same sizing as the 501s. I'm happy with them & will buy more to complement the Levis 'fleet'.:)

Rubbish. Thwy look grand and are comfortable until you wash them. They shrink, lose colour, crumble up.

For the amount of wear I get from my jeans it is one area of my wardrobe I dont skimp on.

Recent convert to Tommy H, in the past couple of years. Excellent fit, quality and wash very well.

I wear Levis and rarely consider any other brand, have been like that since I was a teenager (late thirties now)

    At the moment I have mostly 501s and 569s with a few 505s, 514s and one 562.

All 30x32 or 30x30. I find that Levis consistency in sizing and quality is not great - I have a two pairs of 30x30 501s that are longer, looser and better quality than some of my 30x32 501s bought around the same time.

Small waist sizes like 30 are sometimes sold off cheaply in the Kildare Village Levis shop. For instance, I got a few pairs of 569s last year that only cost 18 euros each.

Levi's 504 are the greatest jeans available.
571' aren't too bad, but the denim in the 504's is a small bit stretchy, so lots more flexibilty.
I long to find another pair of 503's, they were great while available. Sales clerks in the Levi's store will tell you that the 533's replaced them and are the same fit, but they aint.

Quite fond of the 569s myself.

Last two pairs I bought were Nudie and J Brand. Both in the sales.

Have a pair of oldish Replay Waitoms that are probably still my favourite pair for going out.

Dark and slim fit, can't go too far wrong.

Used to wear 501s and Wrangler. Went through everything from Diesel to Pepe, Next, Penney's, Carhartt, and last year bought some cowboy cut Wrangler. Heavy, tough and nice cut. Got me thinking. I wanted Levis again. Decided I wanted Shrink to Fit 501s. Can't get them in Europe and most places won't post from US because Levis won't let them because they charge far more here for jeans.
Eventually got them from Poland via eBay. Cost €80 including shipping. They're $65 in the States and $48 on sale. B@starts.
Anyway, soaked them, dripped dry a bit and put them on. Don't know if it's the lack of sun but it never seems to work. Threw them in the dryer for half an hour and they shrunk the 3 inches I wanted.
They are now perfect. Dark, rough, slippy and stiff. They'll get softer and pick up nice creases and fades. In two years time they'll look like the pre faded crap most places sell, except natural. And I'll have got two years extra wear out of them.
They just seem to fit "right" all over. No baggy bits and no tight bits (maybe a little in the crotch when new). Love them.

I have to agree with that. For years, I used to simply buy 30x32 without even trying them on. They seem to have shrank big time over the years. I now have to go for 38x32 for the same fit.

Used to wear Levi & only Levi., then while in the U.S. Years ago, bought a couple of pairs of Old Navy ones for about $15 a pair & was sorry I didn't buy more. Fit great, last forever, buy a couple of pairs whenever I'm over there.

Generally raw denim, an example would be Levis 511 Rigid Dragon Slim Jean (Not that I own any, cheap as piss in america compared to here)

These would be good indigo ones, but would be expensive:

Don't know about anyone else but I am sick of this fashion that came in around ten years ago of jeans having massive back pockets that go half way down your leg. They came in for baggy low hanging jeans but for some reason they started sticking those pockets on regular fit jeans also. I want pockets on the back of my jeans, not down the back of my legs.

    Anyway

I tend to wear Tommy Hilgiger also, Mercer style. I find they actually have back pockets where they are supposed to be: on the cheeks of the arse.

I said it on the jacket thread also: but buy your jeans on Ebay folks (unless your flush, if so spend away). Go into Tommy H's and and Brown Thomas and try on a few styles and sizes, then go on Ebay when you have decided what you want and you will generally find them for half the price. What I did was sign up on Ebay.co.uk and registered with my Parcel Motel address and that way UK P&P will come up. Lots of Ebay'ers sell with free shipping in the UK and so it can work out quite good.

Off asos usually, they have every size combination in terms of waist and leg.

Most shops will only sell 32/32 and 32/34 and maybe one other if you're lucky.

I'll take a look as I'm in the market for a decent pair of jeans.

    All Saints slashed skinny jeans.

140 quid a pair but an investment

Dunnes have decent jeans. There cheap, and good quality.

Armani are good. I got a few pairs for around 100 quid each in the Brown Thomas sale. I wear fairly slim fitting but not quite skinny jeans and Armani just seem to be the perfect fit and they will last forever. My dad has a pair that he's had for 15 years and they still look grand. They do nice casual shirts too. Tommy are good as well and G Star. I've found Calvin Klein stuff looks nice but I bought a jacket about 6 months ago and the quality is sh!t, it already has loose threads.

    Lee Cooper Originals

Levi's or G Star. I have quite large legs which usually means I have to wear a size up in waist to get jeans to fit my legs, but the tapered styles by G Star and Levi's are great. Good on the waist, nice on the legs and then tapered at the ankle so they don't swim around there. I like slim fitting jeans so they work best.

I see eBay was mentioned a few times. Does anyone have a recommended eBay store to buy from? There's a few stores on eBay I use for things which I found reliable but I have never bought clothes from it. Any recommendations appreciated.

Esprit make great jeans. I buy them online from their site. And h and m if you can find regular or straight fit through the swathes of skinny fit.
Can't stand boot cut, Irish men seem to be obsessed with them.

Might invest in a pair of Levis, haven't had a pair in god knows how long. I have a pair from Ralph Lauren that you just can't seem to get any more but even after 3 years they still fitting perfect. Apart from them, I have 5 pairs from 7forallmankind and they're really really good. Bought a pair from Tommy Hilfiger and I just don't like them.

diesel industries (key word) jeans, buddy wears them, christ they cost alright:)

im a tommy hilfiger mercer man myself (previously brooklyn and manhatten until the stopped making them), just an overall great jean, lost a bit of weight over the last last year or two, wow was that a wallet opener:D, but cant skimp on quality, got a nice pair of mantaray and jeff banks jeans as a stop gap, and while both were good neither were great, mantaray had a great fit, but there's an outline of my phone and wallet etched into the front pockets, cheap material, and the jeff banks fit is designed more for my arms than my legs, extremely tight for a straight fit jean, whereas hilfiger as has been said can last 3 years no problem, and have a great fit, i went from a 36 inch waist and and im at 32 now, and no change in the fit at all, great consistency, i had a pair of lee cooper before, also great jeans alright, must suss out a pair at some point,

Does anybody find that Black jeans are incredibly tricky to find in stock in Irish stores? Ebay and the like are fine but it can be a gamble buying clothing online what with inconsistent international sizing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 927 ✭✭✭Icaras

Used to like Jack and Jone but they seemed to stop selling bootcut, moved onto Levi's which were fine - good value for money. I like Calvin Klein and picked up a few pairs of jeans for £30 each in America.

If your in America Maceys is the place to go, the have loads of really nice clothes for cheap (mostly a few seasons old but I'm not very fashionable), also get talking to some of the staff and they might give you up to 15% off (happened to me twice), and if you bring your passport (thats not American) you can get another 10% off!

Yes, unless you are looking for skinnies which are easy to get.

I settled for a pair of Wrangler blacks one stage, they are OK, but I'd prefer a nicer fit so I rarely wear them. Levi 501's seem to be easy to pick up in black, but I'm not a fan of that cut.
