While I realise this is a reduction, it's still not a 'bargain', it's simply not worth it for Irish people.

If you are not using PM then how does Prime delivery stack up for delivering to Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,784 ✭✭✭Nuttzz

prime wont delivery to ROI addresses so you need PM

Ive prime memebership and find it good, Ive a number of fire tvs and access the video library through vpn no complaints there either

Depending on what I get and how urgent I need it, its
    1. sometimes cheaper using my prime account to PM rather than delivered directly
    2. Quicker than delivery direct to ROI.#

Plus I have access to te kindle lending library and amazon prime movies on my firestick and laptop/tablet.

    To me its worth it.

What's the deal with the unlimited photo storage? Would this include RAW files from a DSLR? It might be worth it for that alone, with the TV/next day delivery an added bonus.

Edit: Looks like DNG files are covered! Very tempted. Anyone have a VPN recommendation?

Why is it so expensive on Amazon.co.uk?

it's normally only €49 per year on Amazon.de & Amazon.fr, which is now down to €29 for the year with this sale.

Is UK delivery really that much more expensive or something?

It can be if you dont qualify for supersaver delivery.

Another consideration for taking this offer up is that it is holding a Black Friday like 'Prime Day' with sales that are only available to Prime members.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/retailandconsumer/11720006/Amazon-launches-its-own-Black-Friday-with-Prime-Day.html

Isn't there a month free trial Prime membership available also?

I am considering taking up this offer for videos using VPN. Do I need to put a UK address in my delievery section to buy this. Sorry for the probably very dumb question!

Where is the bargain here :p ?? I had prime but realized its of no use....why would i buy a amazon fire stick for £35 and then prime for £50-60 to watch videos :?

Like everything, it's a bargain to those who would actually be interested in it anyway.

My firestick cost me £7 having been refunded £12 after I signed up.

Note - it was a launch offer.

Now maybe they said this to appease me but I was told over live chat that the One Day delivery for Amazon Prime will be extended to the Republic Of Ireland "sometime" during the summer.

I then asked a seperate representative if this included Instant Video and I was told to contact the Amazon.ie team!

But we live in hope eh?

At the moment they work at 7-10 days for dispatch so one day delivery on top of that wont make any real difference!

Yeah I've found them getting worse myself alright, especially when they use that iParcel crowd.

It's worth noting that if (and it's a big if) Amazon are launching Amazon.ie, including Prime as an option, it may very well be a separate subscription to the current amazon.co.uk Prime.

I'm tempted in the hope that I make a decent saving on something I want on Prime Day to make it worth it, but it could end up being a bit of a waste of money. Already used up my trial when getting the Fire TV Stick, and didn't use Amazon Instant Video once despite having access, other than to see that it worked, so fast shipping via Parcel Motel would be the only benefit to me really...

Yeah, they will allow it even if there is no way to benefit from it

    Same with Amazon US

Cheers, worth a gamble at that price. I usually use PM for deliveries anyway as there is never anyone home during the day to accept deliveries. Was planning on ordering some stuff today with next day delivery which was going to cost me nearly £10 anyway. Borrowing from the kindle library seems pretty cool too.

Thanks OP I'll give it a go. If indeed they'll start offering Prime for ROI I'm sure we can get a refund in the next 30 days or so
Won't be using much of the prime video services but the delivery through PM in 2 days for roughly 3€ seems good enough for me. I like this semi-instant gratification. Last couple of orders from Amazon using super saver shipping were dreadfully slow. Very frustrating to see items in "dispatching" status for 7-8 days.

€3.95 per delivery now or €3.50 if you top up by €35.

I'm beginning to wonder if they are deliberately slowing things up in advance of the big marketing blowout to advertise 'Prime Day' on the 15th of July.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,373 ✭✭✭✭foggy_lad

Does this Prime Day mean that they will/have stopped signing people up to prime without their knowledge or consent?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,268 ✭✭✭✭uck51js9zml2yt

according to my reading on amazon. Prime Day will give Prime Subscribers special offers.

I ordered a case for my new Lenovo Yoga and it was in my hands in 2 days between prime delivery and PM.

    Thanks!

Regarding any existing Prime memberships transferring to a new Irish Amazon service, I would add that normally Amazon in both customer service and policies are normally extremely permissive of refunds or transferals in my experience so I would be very surprised if they were awkward this way.

I think that Amazon missed a trick by not having Prime Day on the 19th of July:
1: The Month (7) is prime
2: The day (19) is prime
3: The date in UK ddmm format (1907) (and 197!) is prime
4: The date in US mmdd format (719) is prime

Too much free time on my commute!

FWIW: made my first Prime order this past Wednesday at 7am: 1 blue-ray (Japanese cartoon Spirited Away) and a 1 32GB Micro SD card.
Even though they were both in stock and for immediate availability they shipped separately: 1 at noon and the other at 4pm, both on Wednesday. This is quite amazingly fast compared to the treatment you get with the free Super Saver option
Arrived last night at 8.30pm at Parcel Motel in Hanover Quay, Dublin 2
Unfortunately they arrived in separate parcels so I paid twice the normal PM fee. They were both delivered at exactly the same time so probably PM could've put them in the same locker but they didnt.
So all in all probably ended up only saving a few Euros on what I would've paid on high street but still pretty fast and convenient as PM 200mt from where I live.
Also tried downloading the Instant Video app for iPad and watched an episode of a TV series (using a VPN service which I already subscribed to). Good quality video and decent catalog. This wasnt the primary reason to get Prime but I think I will make use of it from time to time
All in all I'm satisfied with the service so far... looking forward to that Prime Day on July 15th. Better load up my PM account with credit 'cause I assume I will have to pay a fee for every single item :-(

Amazon usually give the option to bundle items together or send them out as theyre ready.

Not sure if it's still the same with prime but I don't see why it shouldn't be.

that option wasnt there during the check out process. I think by default with Prime items are sent with the "I want my items sooner. Dispatch them as soon as they become available" option

its not because its UK delivery only and delivery is free so if you were living in the UK you wouldnt really care if two boxes dropped in your letter box, obviously using parcel motel you do care but amazon are really turning a blind eye to PM at the moment

    Hello,
We thought you'd like to know that we've dispatched this portion of your order separately to give you a quicker service, at no additional cost to you. The remainder of your order will follow as soon as those items become available. If you need to return an item or manage other orders, please visit Your Orders on Amazon.co.uk.

also if they feel that some items may not be dispatched for a while they will send other items that are ready for dispatch, you do not get to choose. I would also not mention pArcel motel as they do not send to PO boxes and may blacklist your account.

Amazon are definitely moving in on the Irish market. They have acquired the old Jacob's biscuit factory and I know of people who have been been hired to work in their Irish operation.

But has there been any word whether that's to be a distribution centre for the Irish market or just another one of their cloud centres?

Be great if we finally got our own Amazon.

Its going to be a data centre from what I've heard.

I got my prime movies sorted on my new modem yesterday using overplay.

Again the option isn't there during the Prime check out process. It wouldn't make sense as you don't actually pay for shipping so u don't save by bundling items together

You can get a preview of what's for sale on Prime Day if you go to Today's Deals and scroll to the right through the products on sale today.
You get to midnight and start seeing items flagged for Prime Day sale
It doesn't give you prices but at least you can check at what time a particular sale starts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,596 ✭✭✭DeSelby83

Will it just be the flash sales and daily deals that has things on sale or will there be general items on sale too?

I'd say it will be daily deals/flash sales

Interesting they have a fitbit charge hr on at 7am tomorrow will be interested to see what that is reduced by
