Ever look at the Moon through a telescope.
I did.I have to say it's a bit bloody boring, really not much to see.
Telescopes are bought specifically to look at the Moon.My advice is save your cash.

The moon is brilliant to look at, once you have a decent telescope, know what you're looking at, and don't bother anytime near a new moon.

    The Moon rocks!

'Moon rocks'? See what I did there?

    :)

You either get the feel for astronomy and get stuck in, or you just poked your eye-ball onto the lens and said... this is a load of bollix, all I can see is the Moon. Have a look at the planets low in the west... jupiter and venus. If you're bored looking at the moon, then just stick it up your arse and refract said telescope into the un-known. Might be a better view under these circumstances.

    Happy astronomy..

    best wishes

    Bong.

PS: You need passion for astronomy. No point in looking at something if you don't understand it or have no curiosity regarding it.

I'd say Paris, London and New York would be "a bit bloody boring", without life-form?

The moon acts as a buffer to help prevent meteorites from hitting Earth.

The meteorite that caused the Typho crater on the moon would have been very damaging had it hit us.

The Americans put man on the Moon and then decide to put a fucking car up there for them to drive around in despite there being no shops or drive-throughs.

    Mad bastards.

There's a lot that you can do with a fairly modest telescope, some nice filters, and a bit of expertise with image processing - this guy has produced some incredible pictures this way:

There are much more interesting things to look at though, than just the moon - the same guy made this incredible image:

    Some of the moon:

Sounds a bit like ball lightning. My Granny was chased around the house by ball lightning, that decided to come down the chimney, and only prevented it from killing her by jumping into a pond out the back.

If you thought the moon was boring through a telescope, have you checked out the sun? *

*even for the blindingly stupid it should be blindingly obvious that would be a blindingly bad move.

Ball lightning only last a few seconds, a scientifically sound measurement.

This odd kind of plasma phenomena is interesting if they can just capture it to understand. Maybe not capture it, but to understand its making.

No point in blaming Santa Claus all the time.

Just over an hour from now, at 2:56am on July 21, will mark the exact 50th anniversary that Neil Armstrong on the Apollo 11 mission became the first person to walk on the Moon.

This was a momentous occasion in the history of humankind. It is in our very human nature to explore, to leave our Earthly cradle, to expand our horizons

The next step is Mars. Let's go there.

    Bright ideas for the Moon.

Cover the bright side with mirrors so we could look at ourselves, the reflection would also give us permanent light at night via light from the Sun! Use the dark side of the moon as a massive rubbish tip. Build a Moon base and use the moon as a launch pad to Mars! > Install gravity portoloos, moon WiFi too.... pluse a small Centra or Tesco Express.
Anyone remember the moon buggy? (It's still there I guess), so they would need to make many more of them and then charge visitors to use them while taking Moon holidays!
Keep the moon special, so no terraforming the moon's atmos - I'd keep terraforming for Mars, but that's another trip away.....

Judoon on the moon to keep the peace.

    The Moon
Is a lock of witch's hair,
    Tawny, and golden, and red.
And the night winds stand and stare
    At a strand from a witch's head.
