Given how long WiFi has been around for, that it's a pretty integral part in modern life, and she's probably said it like that a million times, then surely someone would have gone, "wait, what?"

A friend of mine, now a software engineer, has called it Whiffy for years. Never got it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,815 ✭✭✭SimonTemplar

What stupid point was she attempting to make? Obviously it is only a brief extract of her speech, but her exasperated "yeah" at the end suggests she thinks asking for the "whiffy code" is horrendous.

This women has no clue how technology works in modern society. Makes sense then that she is debating it in the Seanad

For a second there I thought the thread title was:

'The Whiffy Code - Jessica Brown Findlay'.

Thought we were in for a sequel :P

But gettin the whiffy code leads teens into sex and debauchery on the internets where the little fookersangels send dirty pictures to each other and do sexting on their smartarse phones, Next they will be riding sideways till the cows come home and the priest will have to be called about getting them churched and the baby christened.

That whole internet should be cleaned up or banned, if the Chinese can do it then why not Galway?

Healy Eames graduated from both Carysfort College, Western Connecticut State University in the USA, and NUI Galway, holding B.Ed., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees respectively.[4] She was a primary school teacher and college lecturer in teacher education.[1]

    Business career[edit]
Her various appointments include: former Chairperson of County Galway VEC, member of Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) Governing Body, member of HSE West Regional Forum, director of Galway Airport, member of Galway City and County Enterprise Board, member of Western Rail Committee and member of Galway Arts Centre Board.[6] She is Director of her own business, FHE Education and Training Providers.[6]

    wiki wrote:
n March 2015 she attracted press attention for a tweet in which she claimed that were Ireland to legally recognise same-sex marriage, it could mean an end to the celebration of Mothers Day in the country. As evidence, she claimed that various U.S. states had banned Mothers Day and Fathers Day, referring to it as "political correctness gone mad".[14] When critics pointed out that her claim regarding U.S. states was untrue, she retracted that statement, commenting that she meant to refer to a number of U.S. schools.[15][16]

In defending her comments, Healy Eames cited as her source Rense.com, a website run by Jeff Rense, a conspiracy theorist known for Holocaust denial, and criticised by the Anti-Defamation League.[17] Critics in the Yes to same-sex marriage campaign accused her of employing scare tactics ahead of the May 2015 referendum on the issue.[16]

    mind boggled

Well, that's what happens when you eat too many whiffy codes in the restaurant. You boggle. It starts with the mind, but it doesn't stop there! In no time at all you'll be boggling from your head to your toes.

The only cure is holy water. Lourdes is best but Knock'll do.

"Question, when you walk into a restaurant and you ask them do you have the whiffy-cnut? Yeah."

    Honestly sounds like it.

I'd say people are regretting not abolishing the Seanad, instead condoning giving unelected eejits like this a cushy job and a soapbox for 5 years at a time.

True, We should be entitled to elect our Seanad though.

My first thought when I read this thread title was of Wiffy.ie from back in the day.

OK...maybe not that far back, more like 5-10 years ago.

It would be a wonderful excuse for her to suggest she was using the Dutch pronunciation all along :pac:

To be honest, the bigger joke is that she was unsuccessful in 3 general elections, yet has been a member of the Seanad for 8 years.

FHE is a one woman argument that the Irish people blundered badly when they failed to scrap the Seanad when they had a chance.

She's been emphatically rejected by the Irish people several times, why does she continue to have such a platform and influence?

I have her filed away in my mind in the same place that I have the councillor who said "putting gondolas on the lake is all well and good but who is going to feed them"? :o:o:o

Sad thing is this doesn't even get in her Top 5 feck ups
From not paying worker's on her way home to thinking she didn't need a ticket on the train to saying Consoles should shut down after an hour - she has a track record Borat would be proud off

Exactly. She's got more of a reason to laugh than you do. She can be as thick or as mental as she likes and she still has more influence in the running of the country than the average Irish voter, or even all of the Irish voters.

The Seanad is an undemocratic circus. It is a living monument to self-entitlement.

In a time of great financial strife, unemployment, massive youth emigration, slashed public services and assistance for the most vulnerable in society it's disgusting to maintain with copious amounts of taxpayer money this expensive talking shop of bores and political failures squawking at each other about teens getting raped on facebook and the menace posed by Dublin seagulls.

Having said all this... We deserve it. We had a chance to put an end to this disgrace and we mostly didn't bother to turn up and vote. Those that did voted to keep this wretched institution out of some ignorant attempt to kick the government.

I read somewhere that the Irish were the least politically sophisticated electorate in Europe and when I see referendum results as in the Seanad referendum, the resurgence of Fianna Fail and the election to the Dail of cartoon characters it's hard for me to argue with this assessment.

Was wondering how somebody so stupid and unelectable can have power in this country. Found it here
Seanad Éireann is composed of 60 members. View a list of Senators listed by name and by panel. The Taoiseach nominates 11 of the members and 49 members are elected in a Seanad election.

To become a Senator you must be
    • A citizen of Ireland
    • Over 21 years old

    You must not be:
    • Serving a prison sentence of more than 6 months
    • A person of unsound mind
    • A judge
    • A senior official of the European Union
    • A civil servant
    • A member of the Defence Forces or the Gardai

We used to have Niall o'B too. Think he was rejected by Galway West in 3 general elections and definitely the last local one he ran where the Greens were wiped out, yet he got a nice Senator seat from FF. Tradition.

Not that you could thanks to the

The "Right to be Offended" bill

    Good call - indo link

The independent Senator received widespread criticism on social media for her pronunciation of the word but she claims she was using the French pronunciation.

"I spoke about the dependence on 'Wifi' (English pronunciation) first, before I intentionally used the French pronouciation [sic] 'wifee' not expecting it in the least to cause a ripple! Quelle surprise!" she wrote.
