Its only on presale at that price on the basis you get a coupon code - not necessarily available at the the price stated. So might not turn out to be a BA in the end. As stated on Elephone.HK 50000+ coupon codes have gone out.

    Taken from the HUKD thread:

    Go to the following website:

    http://www.elephone.hk/

Enter one of the codes which are updated daily from here:
    http://special.focalprice.com/710-Elephone_P8000.html?Source=ls&siteID=Us.jqA_Gjao-bdFasknwDRvnjlqVoplJKA&publisher=Us*jqA/Gjao

    (Currently ELE2881296632, ELE9450197135, ELE6580714845, ELE5040813596, ELE1181796618 as at 23:00 on 30/06)

You will be given a code starting with FC, e.g. FC100080

Enter this code into your basket on FocalPrice - it will give you a $40 discount (or £25 ish if you are shopping in GBP)

It is being released in July so you should have it by the end of July most likely.

Fair enough but bear in mind the delays with the P7000 when it was released on presale and the backlog of orders, you may not have this by the end of July.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 stephenbrett

Be very wary if you are impatient. The P7000 has equally impressive specs and I got one in a flash sale on May 26th - still waiting more than a month later and no phone yet and I have ordered using DHL. The Elephone P7000 was been officially released for sale in May. Elephone are a small company who manufacture to order in order to keep their costs down (much like One Plus One with their invite system).

If you go for this deal, it will not be in your hands until maybe the end of August if you are lucky. Great phones, but you do need to have great patience! I'm sticking with my order as the phone looks good and I paid with paypal so very secure if there is a problem.
Check out the elephone forum on Elephone's official website to get a flavour of the impatience and frustration on offer.

I was thinking about getting this phone but after looking more closely at reviews , the black border around screen really put me off, the phone appears to have very thin bezels but in fact the screen doesn't take up the whole available space , there is a black border the whole way around the screen that is part of the screen.

Open to correction here but i think you have to to file a Paypal claim within 45 days of purchase, if so you are pretty close to that deadline

    I had initially pre-ordered a P8000, but cancelled and ordered the P7000.
    The P8000 has
    • Slower CPU ( 1.7Ghz Vs 1.5Ghz )
    • No Gorilla Glass
    • No OTG support for the USB (so it won't work with the Seek Thermal IR Camera add-on I have ordered too)
    • P8000 does not have a replaceable battery
    • P7000 has a Sony camera, as opposed to the P8000 Samsung camera (apparently worse?)
So, I'm sticking with the P7000 for the moment.
Ordered... but no sign of shipping with FocalPrice yet.

Less spec than on previous telephone, and no gorilla glass

It says that the p8000 has Corning gorilla glass 3

    What does that actually mean?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorilla_Glass

It's a toughened glass used on phone screens, to help with scratches and drops. Most flagships have them.

Don't think it is the seller - Elephone handled the whole marketing and production of the P7000 terribly. They didn't produce enough and have not managed to supply enough to fulfil all orders, even though we are almost two months after launch. I'll stick with the order for now but am sitting by the cancel order button just in case as the days tick by - only sticking by it as the specs are so good and the price was so low. Intrigued by the phone and the whole process is great training for my impatient manner!

Cancel the order altogether and get something like this locally for around the €150 mark when its released in the coming weeks - http://www.gsmarena.com/vodafone_smart_ultra_6-7313.php

Full Irish warranty and no bull****.

Nope, just a fan of their handsets.

    Keep your accusations to yourself.

Getting seriously sick of this Vodafone promotion crap that's been going on. Its like the moto g crap from yesterday years. Its a fine phone for under 100, but some people want more than a crappy budget handset.

There are other people who can't afford the luxury and seek the nearest alternative to the high and mighty high spec examples...

Tell me where you can get a phone of that spec in Europe for less than 200?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,766 ✭✭✭RossieMan

Any of the Chinese EU warehouses. Amazon have some decent devices at that price.

I know the sites and have plenty of Chinese phones. You wont get one with those specs for the price Vodafone are selling it for.

BTW this is the new ultra not the normal smart 6

Ah you will, though, plenty as good and better. But maybe not so much cheaper or better as to discount the convenience of being able to get a Smart Ultra 6 in a bricks n' mortar shop and the real warranty that comes with it.

It'll be interesting to see if it gets a similar price drop to the Smart Prime 6.

GSMArena is not always correct. The phone is still pretty new and the users the site relies on obviously have not updated their spec sheet.

Yeah that site can be misleading at times. Wanted to use the Vodafone site, but boy are they bad at describing their products.

I received an email yesterday from Focalprice where I bought my P8000 the day before, apologising for the delay in getting stock of the phone, and saying they will have it on the 25th July.

I have a galaxy s4 at the mo and rhe screen has cracked. It would cost more to repair the screen then the p8000 has cost. I can still use the s4 so willing to wait til p8000 comes as not in a hurry. Not sure you'd notice the smaller processor to be honest, and for just over 100 quid?

Any smaller phones? My Girlfriend's HTC One (M7) was stolen last night so she's looking for a new phone cheapish but 5.5" is too big.

It's £99 on Amazon for both the 32 and 64 gb versions and is 4.7"

Price looks good but the restricted app store worries me. Presumably since it's not released in Ireland none of the Irish apps would be available (Bank apps, The Journal, Newstalk, Parkmagic, Pumps.ie etc..).

To anyone considering ordering the p8000 I recommend reading the various chinaphone reviews at gizchina since the P7000 is reviewed and there is a lot of useful background about each manufacturer.

I °was° pumped at the time to get the P7000 but the big screen bezel put me off.
Luckily I waited for the gizchina review and it had a ton of caveats.

In the end I bought the top end Asus Zenfone 2 64gb/4gb. Not a bad phone and has potential for custom roms with recent news on xda-developers forums. 😺
