I did my leaving cert in 2014 and took a year out to work, travel etc. my question is I was thinking of doing primary teaching in Mary I because I have always wanted to be a teacher but on the other hand people are telling me there is no work ? Or I might do speech and language therapy in UCC any suggestions ?

Go for what you want to do, regardless of whether or not there's work available. Who knows, maybe the jobs market will have changed drastically by in 4 years time. Don't do something you don't like just because you could get a job. Obviously there is some work, or none of us would have gone to primary school.

People have been banking on the primary job situation improving for years. It hasn't happened.

There is work in the UK and large numbers of unemployed teachers in Ireland, all waiting to try for any jobs that come up. Hibernia puts out more graduates every year, along with the teacher training colleges, so there won't be any shortage of teachers any time soon. You will probably get work in the UK though, if you don't mind relocating.

Please make sure you are fully aware of the situation before committing yourself to it.

Any specialised training would give you a plus.
