Bus license and carrying passengers

    I've a general enquiry with regards to the 'D' category license. Are you required to obtain this license if you are driving a coach (for example,44 seats), but not carrying passengers (for example, shunting bus to another location). :confused:

    It depends on the weight of the bus. With a normal B licence you can drive a vehicle once it's less than 3500kg and a max 8 passengers.

    You'd be hard pushed to find even a minibus that weighs under that.

    If it's registered on the logbook as a 44-seater bus, then you've got to have a d licence to drive it regardless. It doesn't matter if there's people on board or not or what's the GVW.
