Twice I've googled the missing people (always shared by the same person on my friends list) and they've turned up a couple of years before she's shared it. One of them went missing for 8 hours in 2011 abd she shared it a few weeks ago. The other day she shared a warning to all parents not to let your children go out without shoes on because an American from Tennesee did that and her baby burnt her foot. No chance of that in Ireland but why not up the panic levels a bit? Today's best one (we're talking at least 8 shares a day) was from some Islamic hate preacher showing how the Jews are tracking all our Samsung phones.

I could delete her but it's much more fun to give out about her and feel superior.

You didn't say why it grinds you, but people ideally need to be more aware to ideally only share missing people appeals from police accounts or similar (or which are also being shared recently on police accounts or similar).

There are reasons why people go missing, and it may often be in their interests to stay missing.

Just one example being domestic abuse victims.

So I will only ever share these if they're being shared by official sources also - people may not think of this type of thing, and easy to presume everyone has good intentions, but may not always be the case.

I don't know why it would grind your gears. When someone goes missing the time is of the utmost importance and most people wouldn't be able to afford the kind of search and spreading the word of mouth like some other cases, so posting it online is the best way of getting it out there.

Having said that, it's a bit annoying when people, especially teenagers, are reported missing so quickly. Thankfully 8/10 times, said teenager turns up safe and sound.

I must be missing out on loads of bad grammar, txt spk and inane information, since I never signed up for FacePalm.

Instagram and Wattsapp are great for keeping in touch and seeing the pics without too much rubbish attached.

But then again my name is Victor Meldrew.

If you want to feel missed, sign out of fakebook and count the amount of emails they send you telling you how many messages you have missed. It's always best to sign out anyway because they track your internet use otherwise

.......I'd be willing to bet good money on the trend of Facebook missing person alerts having contributed significantly to people being found quickly, one way or another.

I have to honestly ask, to people who object to stuff like this - what SHOULD social media be used for? Some people seem to think the only legitimate use of social media is for news items, political commentary and interesting links to other websites.

These people have, I fear, confused Facebook for StumbleUpon.

Yo dawg, I heard you like Twitter and Facebook!

So we put a tweet button in yo' Facebook button, and tweets in yo' Facebook, so you can read tweets while Facebooking, Facebook while tweeting, read tweets while Facebooking about Twitter, and Facebook Facebooks while Tweeting about Facebook. On Twitter.

In fairness the only thing facebook is really any good for is getting pictures of missing people out there or raising money for good causes, the rest of it is crap.

I mean there's millions of Samsung phones in the world and Millions of Jews how is the workload allocated ? Is there a committee that holds regular meetings in Tel Aviv to organise it all. Is my phone tracked by some Jew in New York but the wife's by another one in Paris

Is the task of tracking Apple phones delegated to the Hindus with the Nokia's looked after by the Buddhists ?

I know! People don't be outdoors with their heads not staring at their phones long enough these days to even potentially see the missing person.

    Where to start.....

Not enough money to make it to the end of the month? Bills piling up? Want to be your own boss? Pm for details. #make it happen

    Raybans for $10.

    #lets #use #hashtags #for #everything, #they're #for #twitter #anyway.

Change your profile name into Irish to show how Irish you are for St Patricks Day.

Weekly picture of something like a Walkman by 98fm......who remembers this?

Usual like and share re sick children.

My dog died....."aw sorry to hear that"

Just checked in at terminal 2......

Anyone want to buy some of these hideous looking frames that I make in my bedroom? Send me your daughter's shoes and I'll lash them into it somewhere along with the rest of the random sh!t.

    All that social justice nonsense.

Share this candle for some strangers that died.

    I cycled 40km today....

I was in your restaurant the other day and the waiter wouldn't give me a high chair for my dog....blahdy blah...... you should be ashamed of yourselves.

I wouldn't give conspiracy nuts the time of day but that on isn't a million miles of the mark.

I used to work for an Irish company (that IBM since acquired) who specialised in "Advanced Subscriber Intelligence" for mobile operators. They operated worldwide with all they major phone operators. The amount of info gathered is amazing. A trail in the States proved the ability to predict when users where about to get sick (as we change our phone usage patterns in the days before illness) to a scary degree.

The phone operators monitor the customer base on a macro level (to monitor trends, areas of interest etc) but the capabilities are there to do it on a micro level.
And the Israeli's have been leading the way in this area for decades.

The amount of porn viewed on phones is just amazing :)
