Small loss for me on day 1, that Sollow looks a beast though and surely Muthmir will win a GR1 this year..

2 bets for me on Day 2

    Free Eagle 3pts win
    Rizeena 1.5pts e/w

Tough looking day tomorrow so going to do two small EW plays.

    2:30 - Bossy Guest EW
4:20 - The Grey Gatsby Ew

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,224 ✭✭✭jimjamcos

    Two picks for me:

3.05: Acapulco - know absolutely nothing about this animal but with Ward stating that she's the best workhorse he's ever on grass she's got to be worth a bet at 5/1 with Moore on board.

4.20: Wasn't planning on backing Free Eagle but struggling to see what beats him. Think The Grey Gatsby is vulnerable to a horse with a turn of foot, also unproven at Ascot, and while Ectot went off at 6/1 for last seasons Arc and has to be respected, he like FE is out for the first time, I think FE's course form in Champion Stakes on softer than ideal last season and Welds ability to get them fit fto makes him value at 3/1.

    Singles & Double

Just a €2 patent for me:

    The Great Gatsby
    Rah Rah
    Always Smile

Volatile is too big in the first in my opinion at 50-1. Followed Jessica longs horses in dubai and Volatile put in 2 great performances over there and was a close 3rd in a french group 3 since. Was travelled well to English shores in past, also 3rd in a group 3 as a 2yo. They have changed tactics from blasting out like a scalded cat to holding him just off the pace this year and the horse has seemingly improved for it. Dosnt strike me as a particularly deep field so having a small win bet and hope for a good run.

Already on The Grey Gatsby antepost, and im happy enough to let that ride. Although a fully fit Free Eagle could be tough to repel.

I'm headed for that cliff edge again and have had a healthy bet EW on American Hope in the Hunt Cup with PP paying the 6 places. Just praying he gets a good tow into the race and he is definitely well up to going very close.

Also had 1pt Win on Tupi in the Jersey, probably didn't show his true running on seasonal debut but improved to win on his second run and the one he beat there finished second behind Gleneagles (admittedly best of a bad bunch) today.

The more I read about Bossy Guest the more I think the 9/1 available is a steal. Backed it with Paddy Power with the insurance of free bet refund if he finishes in the top three.

I might be crazy but just been looking at just emma 66/1 ew top 4 for the queen mary. Was 7L 3rd over 6f to burantino at epsom and was up with the pace most the way before fading a bit, back to 5f tomorrow on good to firm which it won on its debut i might have a tiny ew.

    Secret Tale 40-1 3.05
Has improved for each of it's runs, winning last time.
    I like it's chances here.

3.05 Ascot Kurland 14/1 was a horse that I was incredibly impressed with on her debut when winning incredibly easily and although the form hasn't worked out amazingly (not awful either) I was very taken by the visual impression she created as she travelled powerfully throughout the contest before quickening clear to score comfortably. She represents the up and coming Martyn Meade stable and I'm hopeful she can land this prize at a decent price.

5.00 Ascot American Hope 25/1 is a horse that I 100% believe has been aimed at this race all season and is 100% talented enough to win this contest if everything goes to plan. A winner of his side in the Britannia Stakes last year (6th overall) and an agonising 2nd a month later off just 2lb lower, American Hope brings very strong summer C+D form to the table and I've no doubt that he has the talent to land this off a mark of 101. Trainer Mike Murphy should have him spot on for this and with a big field sure to suit I'm confident if he can get the gaps required he can land this valuable prize.

With little interest in horses, am going to have an e/w 'lucky dip' for Day 2.
Just stinkingly high priced outsiders that follow these conditions (not a highly original system):

    i) Top 3 finish in most of their previous races.
ii) Massive price and plenty of 1/4 places offered. (e.g. x6 with PP at 5pm).
iii) Interestingly, form should follow a sequence of 1x1x1x (slight nod here to universal fibonacci sequencing & FX Trader's fan patterning).

    2.30 Volatile x51
    3.05 Just Emma x67
    3.40 Bragging x11
    4.20 The Corsican x26 (or x13 W/O)
    5.00 Dark Emerald x41
    5.35 Hundi x29 (W/O)

Outright accumulated odds are only 1,161,964,518 (approx).
But for the price of a coffee, just a few pennies on e/w trebles/fourfolds from six will do.
Might be in Monaco if they all win. Probably break-even or some profit with just one single placed treble.

Backed this as well last night rossom, loved the way she quickened so easily and I think the ground today will be perfect for her.

I just can't get my head around the Prince Of Wales's but I think I'll chance Western Hymn at 9/1, looks a different animal to the one that ran in this last year, being gelded looks like it has done the trick. There is questions marks about nearly the whole field. Western Hymn will have to improve but I think there is still more to come from him and I've been impressed with his 2 runs this season.

    4 for me today,

2.30 Ivawood - 7/4 (Money back as free bet if second or third)

    3.05 Kurland 14/1

    4.20 Western Hymn 9/1

5.35 Always Smile 10/3 (Enhanced power play from PP)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,003 ✭✭✭✭mailburner

Acapulco backed at 10s days back
    Following with Kurland also 14s

    Ectot ew

    Speculative bid 12s ew

Stuck a freebet on American hope to win

His trainer puts me off but it's still hard to comprehend how there's such a big difference in price between Ivawood and Bossy Guest, especially as BG is 5Ibs better off for finishing half a length behind Ivawood in the 2000 Guineas.

I think American hope will have to go in the legends thread if he wins today. Most of us seem to be on him

Yea but most of us will only be getting previous losses back if he wins! He owes the forum a big one! :-)

Have Integral in a double from yesterday, and it's also in my my week accum with Ivawood so hopefully they can win.

And the selections from this forum! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,484 ✭✭✭Peintre Celebre

Took a small chance on Dutch Connection in the opener having travelled strongly in the Guineas on his first run of the season. 16/1 looks quite big, Ivawood could be one that flatters to deceive and I wouldn't want to be placing too much trust in him.

Another small bet on Cry Me A River in the next having ran well on debut in a Listed race against the colts at the Curragh. Extremely promising debut and is worth a score in an open looking race at 14/1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,040 ✭✭✭kksaints

Have joined most people here on the American Hope bandwagon. Also have taken a chance on The Grey Gatsby returning to last years form and think Toscanini will place in the Jersey Stakes.

Am going with an ew double today

    Sir Isaac Newton
    The Grey Gatsby

O Brien has his yard flying atm and i think SIN will be thereabouts today also. And am hoping TGG can find his spark again.

    Gl today

Cant look past Free Eagle in The Prince Of Wales stakes. He ran an absolute cracker in the Champion Stakes behind Noble Mission and Al Kazeem on only his 4th race course start ever on ground that he couldn't pick up on, he will be a totally different animal on good ground. This horse along with Gleneagles were my Nap and NB of the meeting. Free Eagle @ 3/1 is an absolute steal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,246 ✭✭✭Mgoraf

You not put off by the fact it's his first run Gringo? that's the only thin gpreventin gme from going in atm!

Interesting that Moore is riding Cannock Chase....dunno if that says more about his or TGG's chances...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,142 ✭✭✭akelly02

Integral NAP of the meeting for me today. evens a steal.

EW double on Western Hymn and Osaila..Detorri's back!!

It is not ideal but if any trainer can get a horse 100% first time out its Dermot Weld (Free Eagle has won both starts first time out btw). PJ Smullen is on record of saying this is the best horse he has ever ridden. Personally I think this is one of the best horses in training.

Sir Isaac Newton 10/1 e/w in the first

    Gabriel @ 20/1 e/w in the hunt c

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,246 ✭✭✭Mgoraf

Free Eagle out to 4/1 with 365. Could be an e/w bet to nothing that.

I'm looking for something to take Integral on with today.Think if Euro Charline runs up to her latest form behind Solow she's a good e/w shout. Only 5.5l behind him and that form obviously very good now, he beat Night of Thunder 4.75l yesterday who in turn beat Integral 1.25l in the Lockinge. EC also getting five pounds today, hopefully has a good e/w shout at 6/1

    choo choo american hope

While 6/1 is stuffy enough, I also think Euro Charline has a very good chance, looked to progress well with her racing last season and her run out in Dubai was no bad effort at the weights.

Last six winners of this race have all been 4yos.

Gone with 2 very small stake bets for interest

    Toscanini

    Lincoln
    EW Trixie

    Sir Isaac Newton
    Rah Rah
    Western Hymn
    American Hope
    EW Lucky 15

Toscanini 14s and volatile 69/1 ew
    FOr an interest

Wes Ward on Acapulco pre Ascot:

"By far and away the best work I ever had of any horse I ever trained on the grass,” Ward said. “It was a sight to see. A couple of Coolmore boys were out to watch the work themselves. It was a phenomenal work.

“Since then, all her works have been lights out. If she runs anything like she’s breezed there’s no way anything I ever had would beat her.”

Wes Ward on the horse today: "I'm going to use the other filly to get her into the race and then in the closing stages it'll be just... boom."

Given he's had a speedball like Hootenanny win here before, here's hoping she's special but with her being Coolmore owned, Moore on board, she's going to seriously shorten IMO.

16/1 is a massive price for Dutch Connection in the first.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,702 ✭✭✭tryfix

Ivawood is a good thing with tons of stable confidence and form behind him, any niggling doubts will just boost his price.

Can't wait to see what the story is with Sir Isaac Newton, he looked really good in an egg and spoon 7f race the last day and finished 2nd to the mighty Zawraq on his debut.

A shocking run from Ivawood, Hannon's team look to be out of form after a flying start to the season. Bit of a worry that Weld might be in the same category.

If Joseph had given Sir Isaac Newton the ride that Ryan did there'd have been a page or two of abuse posted about it by now.
