Put on 3 stone the last 2 years due to crazy appetite from a medication I was on. Came off the meds 7 weeks ago and lost 18 pounds so far by eating healthy and less and walking every evening. However this weekend I had a Chinese, 2 portions of pavlova, 2 sausages and apple crumble. Worried I may have gained loads from this. Will start back tomorrow on my healthy buzz. Do you think eating the above would have made a huge difference to my weight? I'm not weighing myself until next weekend and am not going to eat like I did this weekend again until I've the 3 stone off. Using my fitness pal which I find great but the fat content of last few days is way over ;(

Fair play to you for losing 18 pounds. Forget about this weekend it's in the past. Focus on the coming week.

My own personal experience is that by cutting out sugar in my diet the weight literally fell off me. I didn't change much diet wise, just the sugar.

When I started to read the amount of sugar in various foods I was really shocked.

Orange juice, some yoghurts, sauces in general, soft drinks contain quite an amount of sugar.

    Best of luck!

The food you listed is nothing to worry about what so ever. Sounds like a fairly light cheat meal to be fair.

Brilliant feeling a lot better about it after reading your reply.

If you want the honest truth in my opinion, it takes a very short time to undo the good work. Chinese and pavlova are loaded with calories and sugar. The hard discipline good can be eroded very fast especially as we get older and our metabolism slows down.

It's bad, but don't beat yourself up about it, get back on track asap.

If you were to eat unhealthy 6 days per week and only have the one clean day, would you expect to see results ?... More than likely not, so stop worrying, we all have a bad day or two every now and again.

    You won't have gained loads.

Even if you quadrupled everything you had, the important part is to get back on the horse and consign it to the past.

Too many people throw the baby out with the bathwater after a bad day or two and completely sabotage their diet and end up worse than the starting point.

What's done is done. Now it's about making sure you make the better choices ahead

I got one about 10 years ago. A very basic one from Argos.

    I thought I walked a lot. I didn't. You need to do about 10,000 steps a day.

My job involves rushing about all the time, but I still never hit the 10,000 steps.

In my experience, a bad day or two might slow down the loss that week, but overall doesn't do any harm. It's stopping a bad weekend spiraling into a bad week, into a bad fortnight is the thing, and that's something I've struggled with. So just try and forget about and get back into the regime asap.

Just as a btw, when I've worked out my own order from the chinese as best I could, whilst not great, it hasn't been as bad as I'd have thought tbh!

If you have a smartphone it is probably easier to just install an app like Moves.

Everyone has bad days so don't worry about having a slip up. You've done brilliantly to lose so much already and congrats on the 2lbs this week! As a rough guide, it takes 3500 extra calories to put on one pound, so unless you went on a serious bender, you're unlikely to see weight gain with one cheat meal. However, certain foods can leave you feeling sluggish and bloated (I find chinese murder for this) so you may weigh heavier the day after, but a couple of days clean eating should rectify this. The important thing when you have a cheat meal, is to recognise it as such and carry on with the healthy eating - don't let it become an excuse to go back to old habits.

I think what Alf says is spot on, you had a moment or two of weakness, that's ok, the key to success is being able to get straight back on it when you've had a cheat and not just deciding it's all ruined so what's the point.

Remember, thin people sometimes eat a take away too, but they're thin because they don't eat it often :)

Well done on the weightloss. You're doing great, just keep at it!
