Thanks for the heads up. If you applied for this as an EO in another department would you remain on current scale if successful does anyone know? Thanks.

As far as I know there won't be any change in salary. Fair play to you for considering it. I could never put myself through a competition like this for the exact same grade

what is the diff between EO and AO.. is it easier to become an EO? I applied for the AO compliance job but I scored badly with the competencies in my application. I will have to try harder if I apply for this. Sure it will probably be as high a standard of applications for this as it was for the AO!

What does this recruitment process consist of?
    Application and ?????
If you do not have a leaving cert with 3 honours but have a Diploma will this suffice?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,644 ✭✭✭sillysocks

Filling out the forms for this at the moment. Painful!
You'd wonder why they don't do the aptitudes first and then have people who are successful at those fill out the forms rather than getting everyone to fill them out. Maybe it's to put some people off!

Was your application acknowledged ? Does anyone have the e-mail address to contact if it wasn't? I didn't save the information booklet and can't access it now. Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,644 ✭✭✭sillysocks

No, mine wasn't acknowledged either. I'd actually forgotten about it. I do have the form saved but don't have my laptop for a few days. I can let u know the details at the weekend if you don't get them before that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56 ✭✭try_again

Thanks. The details aren't on the actual form - it was the information booklet. I think they said either 6th or 16th for acknowledging- just can't remember.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,644 ✭✭✭sillysocks

Sorry I meant the booklet, think I saved that as well. Will let you know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60 ✭✭buttercup20

As far as I can remember it was by 1pm on the 16th July.

Yep. Have the booklet saved somewhere. That form was a pilgrimage...

Edit: it said something like "if you do not recieve a reply by this time contact.." and then a phone number. Not home so cant find and post the number yet.

Definitely 16th of July re acknowledgement email.

The application form was a pain in the hoop.

    Defo the 16th.

Beginning to worry about my application. The form was very limiting, There was not enough boxes on the form for my work experience or my education. Because you had to start with the latest education, I ran out of boxes before I got to the leaving cert. And I did not get in all my work experience. I hope it doesn't go against me.

In other civil service forms, they used Word, and you could add extra boxes. This form was inflexible and biased toward applicants who are in the workforce for a shorter period. Must have been designed by Brendan Howlin!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,644 ✭✭✭sillysocks

The form was a total pain in the ass. By the time I got to the end I was so fed up of it I didn't even read back over any of the stuff of written. Just pressed submit so I could forget about it! God knows what rubbish I wrote.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,644 ✭✭✭sillysocks

I just got an email this morning saying they have my application but received 700 applications so it will take some time to process and the shortlisting will be solely done on what's in the application forms.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 emer28

Did anyone hear anything back yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 108 ✭✭CD-R 80

    Bumpedty bump.

I got an email on 15th July saying they are shortlisting etc...not a peep since!! I'd imagine interview dates will be out by next week though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,644 ✭✭✭sillysocks

I got an email a few weeks ago looking for 'clarification' of qualifications and eligibility. Sent back the information but haven't heard anything since.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 108 ✭✭CD-R 80

    Anything??

I just got an email stating that results won't be this week so presumably shortlisting was due to be released this week but has been delayed.

Just got an email saying I will be called for interview in sept!!

    I got a no :(
Not sure if it was down to my application form responses or the actual qualifying requirements. Might respond to ask.

Pity. Often wondered if they reveal the basis for not being selected. Keep us posted if you do get a response.

My experience with Revenue is that they will always provide feedback.

Why are the entry requirements on this competition so high? They are higher than the last EO open competition and the AO ICT & Tax and compliance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,644 ✭✭✭sillysocks

The feedback was that the cuts this time were only based on entry requirements and not on anything filled in on the application forms.
I didn't have honours maths (a1 in pass), but had hoped part of my degree in computing would have covered that part of the requirements but obviously not. Ah well. Just wish I hadn't of wasted the time on that painful application for now!

    Extremely harsh IMO.

Have you taken Maths or Economics as a major subject of your higher level qualification.

how broadly can you interpret, i.e. is accountancy classed as maths?

I'm wondering that too! Don't think there was a subject listed as maths in any of my qualifications but had accountancy and finance in one of them. Probably need to ask them I guess.

So are they interviewing anyone that fulfils the entry requirements then? I ask because I realised a while ago that I didn't submit the final version of my application form so one of the competencies was left blank (I know I'm a dope!). Anyway I wasn't going to bother replying about the Maths/Economics in further studies because I figured I wouldn't be shortlisted anyway. So now I'm wondering if I should...

Some pile of nonsense IF you have successfully completed a course post leaving cert of relevance. Otherwise "them are the rules".

I didn't do honours maths cos I took secondary school off (more or less) but since got a degree, ACCA and AITI without failing one test. In theory so I wouldn't qualify. LOL.

Hi, has anyone got their interview date confirmed yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,816 ✭✭✭corny

What does 'a major part' mean? Are we talking final year subject or just a quantitative emphasis?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 benzy00

One of the other posters directed me to this thread.. i got an email regarding being shortlisted. Seems like a lot of hoops to be jumped through for this job. The application was painful to say the least and the fact that an exam which i sat 10 years ago (the leaving certificate) can upstage a degree is just plain wrong. I was wondering has anyone gone through the process before, and if anyone would have any idea of the ideal candidate, it seems to be orientated towards graduates.

    Good luck.

Agree with your comments and those or others, e.g. you could have the enormously hard TAX AITI qualification, but a Leaving Cert mark in maths would be rated a superior qualification. A bit of a joke.

I wouldn't say there is anything to suggest it it geared towards graduates, but then it is a bit hard to fathom what they are looking for.

I have never worked in the public sector, and this is my first job application with them. The process is drawn out enough as is, like i applied almost a month and half ago, just wondering has anyone else gone through this type of interview, even at CO level. Anything in particular they're looking for, like i come from a banking back round, more customer service than finance, i have a small bit of experience in lending and management, but regards tax/audits etc i would be a complete novice. Trying to research on the net here, but its difficult.

I've just gotten the below email:

I refer to your recent application for the Executive Officer in Tax, Audit and Compliance. Your application form has been re-examined in the context of the eligibility criteria and I am pleased to inform you that you have been shortlisted and will be invited to the next stage of this competition.

This stage will comprise of a preliminary interview focusing on the Specialist Knowledge, Expertise, Achievements and Self Development section of your form. The Board will discuss how you have demonstrated suitability for consideration for this post based on the information you provided in the context of the very specific requirements of the role, as described in the information booklet.

Interviews are due to take place in September/October. You will be notified of your time and date shortly. You must attend for interview on the date and time assigned as changes to appointments will not be facilitated.

Please be advised the competition will be re-advertised in the media this week. Since your application has already been accepted, you should not submit a new application form.

    Regards

Whats to be made of them re advertising? Have they not got sufficient applications to fill the positions or something?

Well done. Job now re-advertised on Revenue website.

Seems you still need a C in Honours Leaving Cert Maths:confused:

Not clear what has changed to be honest. Didn't keep original booklet.

The educational requirements are the same.

I wonder are there just more positions than was expected?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22 Whizzgirl

I have a B in Leaving Cert Honours Maths and Economics in my degree and I got this reply. Don't understand why they're re-advertising the positions. Doesn't make any sense to me if they're knocking out people who qualified originally???

I refer to your recent application for the Executive Officer in Tax, Audit and Compliance.

This competition will be re-advertised in the coming days with amended criteria. Your application form has been re-examined. I regret to inform you that you are not among the group of candidates invited to attend for interview on the basis of the amended criteria

The Commissioners would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in applying for this position.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,644 ✭✭✭sillysocks

I would reply and ask for feedback. That's what I did when I was originally counted out, they responded saying people had only been knocked out at that stage if they didn't meet the requirements, but then as we've seen they allowed us to clarify why we thought we did meet them and I'm now back in.
    Worth asking them anyway.

My reading of the criteria was that a level 7 degree or above would now suffice.

3.1 Candidates must have, on or before 2nd July 2015:

    Either

    • Have obtained at least 3 honours in the leaving certificate, including a relevant business subject (Accounting, Economics, Business) and a minimum of a Grade C in Honours Maths
    Or
Hold equivalent grades in an international qualification of the same level as the Leaving Certificate

    And

    • Hold a minimum of Level 6 Qualification on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) having taken Taxation, Accounting, Law, Business, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a Financial discipline as a major subject.

    Or
    • Successfully completed a level 7 or higher qualification on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) having taken Taxation, Accounting, Law, Business, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a Financial discipline as a major subject, or hold an internationally recognised industry certified equivalent qualification in at least one of these areas.

I think the problem is that Economics wasn't a major subject in my degree. It was one of four in first year and a smaller part in 2nd and 3rd year.

Just stumbled across this tread, I'm in work and on my phone so the public jobs site is quite difficult to navigate from a phone. Can anyone tell me the salary band and location for these positions? Thanks in advance

My interview is scheduled for Thursday. Anyone any tips on what to expect. Shortlisted for interview on first round but I have an economics degree so that's probably why.
