Healthy Smoothies - Hints, Tips, Recipes Etc

    Hi guys,

I really dislike the vast majority of fruits and vegetables, but my lack of intake of both has gone beyond a joke now and I know I need to do something about it, hence I purchased a blender in a sale a couple of days ago with the intention of holding my nose and guzzling down some fruit/vegetables every day :pac:

So as I'm starting from scratch on the whole smoothie craze, does anyone have any hints, tips, exciting recipes etc that they use that they wish to share?

Or is it just a matter of not getting too complicated and chucking a lot of different fruits in, a bit of ice for thickness and some water into a blender and away I go?

    Cheers all :)

A few random tips: (i) use water instead of orange juice or other fruit juice. (ii) maybe try adding a small amount of vegetables or leafy greens to your smoothie eg. I find spinach nice. (iii) always add ice, it'll taste a lot nicer. (iv) a banana will thicken up the smoothie. (v) add strawberries, blueberries, raspberries if you want to keep (naturally occurring) sugar quantities down. (vi) add some nuts or but butter for some protein (your blender needs to be pretty powerful). (vii) add some seeds (eg. chia, flaxseed) for some extra fibre and healthy fats.

You can keep it as simple as you like though!
Water + ice + banana + berries will give you a nice smoothie.

    My current smoothie of choice, using the larger Nutri Bullet cup;

Large handful of spinach (fills 1/3 the cup)
One Royal Gala apple (cored obviously)
    Half cup of blueberries
    Half cup of raspberries/blackberries/strawberries
    15g of Chia Seeds (aldi)
    15g of pumpkin seeds
    200ml of almond/coconut milk
    Topped up with mineral water

That concoction whizzes up into a disgusting brown colour but I love the taste. I have definitely worked myself up to it though, anyone else who isn't used to smoothies and has tasted it said all they can taste is the spinach but I don't get it at all. Just goes to show!

No harm in throwing in a scoop of protein powder too!

There is a nutribullet app that has some good recipe ideas in it: https://www.nutriliving.com/articles/download-our-nutriliving-recipes-app

Apologies for bringing this thread back up but I've just installed the nutribullet app but I'm not seeing any recipes in any lists. Do I need to install a separate app to download the recipes? Thanks.
