Ring/Rackard Finals

These finals are tomorrow, live on TG4 and feature teams we don't see too regularly so I, for one, am intrigued to see them and the standard of play produced. To be honest though, I know very little of any of the teams so if anyone wants to talk about the matches (and inform me a little) I'd like to offer this as a place to do so. I couldn't find any other thread related to this, hence why I started this one.

The standard in the Nicky Rackard (3rd tier) won't be that high and the pace will be noticeably slower than what we are used to watching. There should still be some good scores, and be competitive although I reckon Armagh should win fairly well in the end.

The Christy Ring final later will be obviously a much higher standard, Kerry are a good side. They have beaten lower ranked top level sides like Antrim, Westmeath & Carlow this year.
    Should win final easily enough.

The poor Lory meagher finalists don't get to be on tg4 live as there's an u20 rugby match on after the game now and then there going back for the Christy ring final

TnG are streaming the Meagher game online in case anyone wants to watch it.

Really? They advertised the Meagher final before the Ros game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,115 ✭✭✭Boom__Boom

Might have advertised it. but are only showing it online.

Fairly lousy for the lads from Fermanagh and Sligo

What was that sending off for? Something off the ball?

    Edit: I see now!

Hard to know, must have been as Roscommon still got the free in. Looks like heading for an exciting finish anyway.

Armagh man got away with pulling Kellys helmet off.

The linesman on the hogan stand side has been brutal

    That is filth.

Why wasn't it a red card

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,133 ✭✭✭Stevecw

Ha, what a finish!! Fair play to yer man sticking it away.

    Dramatic finish there.

Justice was done after a cynical, filthy foul. Fair play to him from that far out!

Very cynical stroke alright, justice was served in the end though!

Delighted for Roscommon. That was very cynical from Nathan Curry at the end there and Micheal Kelly's goal from a free was the perfect punishment. Thought John Coyne made a big difference coming on at half time.

Was it a fair sending off? It looked soft to me.

Gutted for our lads - that's a devastating way to lose the game.

Congratulations to the Rossies - never gave up and it clearly meant a lot to them too, so fair play.

Fantastic. Reminds me of 2001 and Gerry Lohan's goal. What a finish.

We're having a barbecue with friends today. Food is currently being cooked and I offered to help. However, I was told it was OK and my wife suggested that instead of standing around like a spare part, why didn't I go in and watch the hurling and she'd call me when the food was ready. Hurling it is so. Happy days lol.

Lory Meagher final is significantly better than the Nicky Rackard final was. Not that the Rackard was a particularly bad game, but this is a lot more free flowing. Fermanagh look like they could get a goal with every attack. Kind of reminds me of a Kilkenny county final about ten years ago when the village basically annihilated Gowran in terms of play but DJ kept banging goals in and kept them in it right until the end. In terms of the playing level in both matches I'd say they are not dissimilar to good junior/middling intermediate teams in Kilkenny, perhaps more the former.

How do you get the Hurling? The live stream is showing the rugby

far more intensity and higher skill level in the Rackard final

Fermanagh actually play a lovely style of hurling. Instead of hitting it as far away as possible they try find men with intelligent passes even out of defense. Enjoyable game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,133 ✭✭✭Stevecw

We could be in for another exciting finish here, Fermanagh down to 13!

    two stupid, stupid sending offs

Doesn't always make it a better match though. The Meagher is more free flowing.

    Was that a goal???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,133 ✭✭✭Stevecw

Was that over the line??? Keeper acted "injured" then

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,115 ✭✭✭Boom__Boom

With the slow-motion I think it was a goal.

Two very good games considering the standard involved (I mean that as a compliment, not an insult).

For those who, like me, are just turning over to Galway - Dublin you're in for a surprise (I won't be an eejit by spoiling it here though)!!!

Definitely a goal, would have made a huge difference if that had counted. Sligo have every right to be peed off over that.

Really enjoyable game overall, great to see teams like this on tv/online for a change. Fermanaghs no 14 McLoughlin looks a class act. Never would have heard of or seen him before today.

Yeah I think it was a vital moment for Fermanagh with the way the momentum was going in the game.

Kerry are a class above Christy Ring level and i'd be afraid they might run away with this final. Hopefully not and it is a close game.

Flicked over to TG4 on the telly with the ad break in the other game and I have a one minute and 19 second delay between TG4 on the television and the online feed.

Seems a fairly massive gap between the two.

Watching on TV now, just tried the online link there and it's 1 min 15 second behind for me! Motto of the story is don't put any bets on if you are watching TG4 online!

Big step up compared to the other two finals. Kerry's hand passing is lovely at times to be fair.

How many non-Kerry players are on the team?

The jump from Nicky Rackard to top few Christy Ring teams is huge. Saying that i am finding this poor enough, neither team is playing anywhere near their best so far.
Kerry especially are a lot better than this but looks like they'll win handily enough without playing that well.

I thought Kerry played well for the first twenty minutes or so. Some of their handpassing, as I said earlier, was lovely. I kind of getting the feeling they know they have the measure of Derry and more and have taken their foot off the gas though.

They have to be careful tho they have lost last 2 CR finals unexpectedly, and can't afford to be complacent.

They had a great league and beat higher level teams like Antrim, Carlow & Westmeath and maybe feel they are above playing the likes of Derry.

They have to go out and prove that and win well. Then next year will be in Leinster qualifier group to add to their place in 1B League.

Kerry go into Leinster even though they are in Munster? I know they'd get hammered out the gate in Munster whereas they could give an account of themselves in the Leinster qualifiers but it does seem odd. It does, however, make sense in a way.

This is why the whole championship needs to be restructured and time to drop the current format

Quick question, was it me or did virtually none of the Armagh players play for clubs in Armagh? Was this the case for any of the other five counties today?

You think the provincials have had their day? I have to admit I like them. As a Kilkennyman I want us to win Leinster as it is the province we are part of. I'm sure anyone in Munster would say the same about Munster.

Keith Carmody looks like a good player. Well able of attacking from deep.

Yep, play it on league/championship basis. At least that way, everyone gets equal number of games and more importantly, the club player knows exactly when his/her games are scheduled for and can plan accordingly and not have games postponed for weeks and actually play championship hurling in the summer as opposed to the shi*e and muck

Yep Antrim got relegated from the qualifier group after being in Leinster for a few years. Kerry will now replace them.

To me it makes perfect sense, I am a big fan of the current Leinster qualifier group. This year we had Laois, Westmeath, Carlow & Antrim. All teams get 3 games v teams of their own level. Top 2 are playing tomorrow v Offaly & Wexford.
Antrim finished last and got relegated. Carlow are left in limbo a bit.
