The best advice I could give personally would be to get to a really good PT. I can recommend one via PM if you like?

You don't necessarily have to get a 1:1 PT, as it can be expensive.

Most gyms now will coach you for your first couple of weeks and do regular check-ins with you, which is all included as part of your monthly/yearly membership. It won't be a full workout 1:1 session each time but they will provide you with a beginners training plan that you will follow for the first few weeks. They should also be on hand to give you basic information like what should be your staple foods, how many workouts you need to be doing a week in order to achieve your goals, etc.

Also, you're prob best doing a full body workout plan rather than focusing on specific areas at the beginning. You might want to focus on machines for the first few weeks and once you have the reps (repetitions) and form mastered, gradually introduce free weights. But again, one of the PTs in the gym will provide you with all that info.

Lastly, don't be self-conscious of people looking at you or afraid of doing the wrong thing in the gym. 99% of people are too self absorbed in their own world of macros and workout plans to care and the other 1% are looking because they don't have a clue what they're doing either :)

You don't need a PT, but if you find an affordable and good one, then it'll help you for the first few weeks.

If not, just find a typical beginner strength routine like stronglifts, and work away. Try to get a coach or gym staff member to show you the proper way to do the lifts; especially the big ones like squats and deadlifts, and have a look at some youtube videos to visualise what is good or bad form.

Try to clean up your diet, and depending on your goal, adjust your calorie intake to suit it.

Just go from there, and build up some sort of routine to get used to training. 3x a week is good to start off with.
