I tried volac top wrap 2000 one year I think I got 44 bales to a roll @ €95/roll but the store owner told me that it's only for certain wrappers or that you need to set the wrapper up differently for it. How true that is I don't know but the silage came out perfect.

The wrapper doesn't need to be set different but if you got away with good silage then you should have done the lotto the day you opened the bale.
It's the worst plastic I've ever used.
We went into one job one evening and the farmer had 10 rolls of it there.
Anyway wrapping away for a while and he stops up the lads wrapping. I seen them looking at the bales that were wrapped and then wrapping a new one and leaving it off.
The grass was pin holing it everywhere.
Fired it off and put on a normal roll and no bother with it.
Couple of days later came accross the same problem and on a hot day it would just keep breaking leaving the roll.
There was tests carried out lately on silage wrap.
Volac came out near the bottom of the bunch.
The two I see working the best are silawrap and gold crop.
Not having a go at you or anything but going to the trouble/cost of making a good bale it's silly to skimp a few euros on a lesser quality plastic

I've wrapped alot of bales in top wrap and never had that happen.
Able to clock 60/hr when ever I've used it.
I'd definitely have heard it from the neighbours If the silage was bad

    Jasus that's amazing.
I'd say you'd be hard enough pushed to even get it here now.
    It's the 2000 stiff I'm talking about?

I only used one roll of it towards the end of the season but I found no difference to it and standard rolls.

That's it, did you get 44 bales out of it?

Who carried out the tests, what did they test for.

We're getting silawrap fir 79 atm.

Dad was saying this the other day that the reason wrap want so dear was because they put the recycling levy onto the purchase price.

Why are we paying fit the plastic then when we recycle it?

We are using unbranded stuff from maizetech. 65euro a roll. Used some last year and it was fine. It's stuff that might have a small defect like it's not straight on the roll or off to one side on it.

Encountered this problem myself last year wrapping using Volac. Silawrap is the only way to go.

Silatite or Silawrap IMO, my wrapper just eats the rest!

Just got some '14 Silawrap @80, he quoted me 88 for Volac. Dairygold around 84/86

Well as we head in to this years season what are lads paying for wrap , best quote I got was from Kerry agri € 80 per roll but had to buy 20 @ a cash price .

Dairygold are €85 and 90 for those pink rolls. I thought when diesel dropped so much that the price should be much lower. They blamed the price of diesel for it going up a few years ago.

Any verdicts on the pink wrap which was used last year? It available locally this year, would like to support the charity, but don't want bad bales either. Can donate to the charity in usual way.
    it more expensive (97 v. 85) but 1900m rolls

Also hear there purple wrap available with a donation being made to
Crumlin hospital. Again a good cause.

Pink wrap was a1 used a bit i had left over this year too... way more expensive but shur look its for an excellent cause and we got some looks up around with it and got lads talking about the charity its for too...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,313 ✭✭✭✭Sam Kade

So the price of oil is going up and straight away the cost of wrap will go up, if it were the opposite the price of wrap would not drop in price instantly:mad:

Failed to source some last year as it was sold out locally. Have got a couple of rolls this year and will get some purple as well. Wondering how much of the extra cost actually gets passed on to the benefices. Might be as well to make a direct contribution.

I thought i heard a mention of a euro a roll. I think its the publicilty is a good as any. im in a fairly scenic area and i got a lot of on-lookers headin for the beach and stoppin to look and had half a notion of doin a field on a sunday or something and advertisin and settin up a bit of a bucket or sumtin and collectin a few pound, might be feckal but shur twould be worth whatever few pound we would pull together for charity..... When we are at it at all!
