Getting a second opinion

I recently went to a dentist after not being to one for years. Things generally didn't seem to be as bad as I'd feared, though I need a bunch of fillings. I was wondering would it be sensible to get a second opinion before a fairly big job; I'm also a little worried that something might have been missed (I occasionally have a tiny bit of bleeding when brushing, and one front tooth, which overlaps the other top front tooth a bit, sometimes feels like it's moving very slightly; he didn't mention any gum disease, though), though I think I may be being over-paranoid there.

Anyway, is seeking a second opinion fairly normal? Should I just tell the second dentist I go to that I'm doing that?
