Do you believe in God and how's life going for ya?

Simple question, I don't care whether you're highly religious, agnostic or atheist. I don't care what kind of God you believe in nor how much of the Church's preachings you adhere to.

All I want to know is do you or do you not believe in something and if so is life going well, are you happy and well off or not so much?

    Wait for the poll!

    :)

1:Do not derail it with discussion about the Catholic Church, your beliefs or the beliefs of others.
    2:Just answer the poll.

I believe in a higher form of consciousness/emotion but not a "God" as depicted by various religious texts; and life is going grand, thanks for asking!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I do not believe in God, though respect the right of others to worship/believe what they will.

Life's OK, could be a lot worse, could always be better...

    I am content.

who are these atheists saying that life is super.
    really ?

at least if you believe in god rightly or wrongly theres some hope of a happy ending.

if you're atheist and think life is super then you missed the bit about being an accident of evolution on a meaningless poverty filled horror rock spinning in an endless vacuum.

Religion: There is no god and if I'm wrong it isn't overly interested in us.
Happiness: Life is a constant struggle to find reasons to smile. They key you ask? Distractions!

Life is great. God is gay. Health is wealth. :)

(And by gay, I'm clearly referring to his state of happiness :-D)

I do not believe in God and life is pretty good. Sometimes it's even great!

I doubt having God in my life would make it any better.

I can't think of anything I want more than for death to be like an endless sleep. If heaven existed I would be refused anyway as I don't do what a good Catholic is meant to. And I'm not sorry about it so i'm screwed. I want to enjoy the life I have and look back and feel I made the most of it.

I didn't believe in God but now i do.

I know for a fact now that he is real. I had doubts at first but it is obvious if you think about it.

He is looking over us all as we speak. Can you not feel his presence?

I object to the statement "do you believe in something" - I am not religious and don't believe in God but I believe in many things. I believe in the future of the human race and the innate goodness within us all. I believe in the ability of technology to improve our lives and solve our problems.

Wow gods are really diversifying. Hope of a Happy Ending usually only happens in massage parlours. I had not idea the gods were offering a similar service now.

Which impacts my enjoyment of it not at all - nor can I imagine why it might.

I believe in God because he answers my prayers and has proven himself to be real in so many circumstances in my life! He's great! It doesn't mean that life is any more "super" but I have him to help me through - and he does!

Nope, no magic needed in my life, good times and bad times, in the balance seems the same as everyone else.
Packed in religion some 24 years ago and the only thing I'm missing is guilt.
My wife and son are observant though, doesn't bother me in the least.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,678 ✭✭✭Crooked Jack

I certainly believe in something, although I've no idea what it is.
I dont for one second think any of the religions have it right. I simply cannot accept that because a billion hindus or buddhists or whatever were not born in the "right" place at the "right" time to hear about Jesus theyre all going to Hell.
But conversely, I dont for one second believe that we are the pinnacle of existence or creation (creation in terms of things existing, not Creationism). So i certainly believe in a higher power, or energy, or an original existence before the big bang, I just dont know what it is. It doesnt bother me much though because firstly, whatever is (or isnt) out there is probably simply beyond human comprehension, like trying to explain a sphere to a 2D disc, and secondly, we all find out in the end anyway.

Life is pretty terrible at the moment and Im still dealing with the consequences of a terrible decision i made some 18 months ago

    and thats just great.

but thinking that life is super ??

how exactly do you put the two parts together .... a realist view and happiness.

I know that my most likely cause of death is prostate cancer, and before that Ill probably get to watch my loved ones slowly die, my own life being ultimately meaningless, with a large part of it spent as a worker drone .... but yaaay I get to go to the circus today, that must mean that life is super.

at least if you believe in god rightly or wrongly theres some hope of a happy ending.

It's going to end wether you hope or not...

And if you're busy trying to be happy in the present, you really should not be dwelling too much on the end.

Thinking about the end suggests unhappiness with the present. Happy people don't wait for death... They ignore it until the very last moment! :)

Like me... I'm immortal. I'm going to live forever. That's what I choose to believe! :D

Well I suffered from depression back when I was religious, and though I stopped being religious, I still suffer from depression.

So if you are trying to draw any conclusions from the poll, keep in mind that there are people out there like me skewing your results.

    Well, that's a bit depressing.

Your life doesn't have to be meaningless. You are the one with the power to assign meaning.

Everyone dies but not everyone gets to go to the circus.

Hey OP can you add in another poll option.

this one is called: 'i don't believe in god, i think life is super, and its so super that I've used drugs or alcohol to escape it hundreds of times'.

And you don't think the poor and suffering will be rewarded for it. So you tend to help them. And not for the sake of you soul or because some man in they sky says you should.

Once I became an atheist the world became a wonderful place. I mean the universe. Rather than something just placed here it's actually amazing. Evolution is amazing. That we exist is amazing rather than something to be taken for granted. What we've achieved as a species is amazing too.

Sure, I have down days. Everyone does. That's part of being human. Overall though I'm happy. Well, as happy as most.

And remember, in Ireland most atheists were raised catholic so they have a before/after to make a comparison with.

    Most deists/theists don'[t have a before/after point of reference.

We should pity those who know their redeemer and know not their wretchedness as much as we are appalled by those who know their wretchedness but know not their redeemer.

We are, all of us, led by our own lights.
