Reasons To Be Cheerful

The tougher the day, the more important it is to find some reason to be cheerful. It's that or sink. Today was not a good day, but I dug deep and found reasons to be cheerful. I, 2, 3.

    1. Although I'm having a terrible day, on two occasions I've been complimented. Once on my work, and the second on my eyes. I'm shallow enough to appreciate the second compliment more.

    2. Although Isis is marauding and slaughtering it's way across historic heritage sites, and Boko Haram is terrorising parts of Nigeria, and earthquakes have shaken the hills and people of Nepal to devastating effect, I have in my possession two Malteaser Bunnies and a lovely mug of tea. So I believe everything will be alright with the world, in the end.

    3. Although I have the worst papercut ever suffered by a homo sapien after trying to tear the card wrap off a packet and have almost bled to death from the resulting injury, Irelands historic result on Saturday is a very good thing that makes me happy and optimistic that more and more marginalised people will achieve equality. I smile whenever I think about it.

Anybody have other reasons to be cheerful? Three of them preferably, to please the spirit of Ian Dury.

    1. I fixed a broken window washer pump that a badger broke on me

    2. The badger is dead

    3. I'm going to the pub to celebrate (fixing the pump, not killing the badger)

I chose not to choose life.

    I chose somethin else.

    And the reasons?

    There are no reasons.

Who needs reasons when you've got heroin? ;)

A papercut isn't a reason to be cheerful BW, unless you're into that kind of thing 'recreationally'. :P

Feic off Dougal. Mine, all mine.

Just opening the second one now. The anticipation is almost as good as the chocolatey goodness itself. :)

One of the saddest things is that I can't find anything to say / share. Maybe tomorrow .

Sometimes a normal, quiet day is better than one full of drama :)

I love when that happens. Once when I was on my uppers, as I regularly was as a student, I put a jacket on that I hadn't worn for months and found a fifty note in the pocket. I almost believed in a god. :)

I once put a pair of jeans on and found €180 in the 'Johnny' pocket! Had no idea how it got there until I racked my brains and remembered th last time I wore them was during Cheltenham week. How did I not miss €180??

    1. My 78 year old granny got a new bike today. I think that's class.

    2. I also got complimented twice today!!

    3. I'm half packed for a weekend away with my bestie.

    4. My dog is snoring beside me and it just so happens she's the cutest dog in the whole wide world.

    Grannies are the best!

I should have had four reasons, because I have a great granny. :)

I was looking through a winter coat I stopped wearing in March for an old leap card since I left my most recent leap card in work because I cycled home yesterday. I found it and a 20€ note.

The work I'm being put under pressure to get done quickly is proceeding as hoped.

Something will delay it, definitely, but for now I'm going to enjoy the lack of panic.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Ok, yay, I have one :)

Removed my duvet cover to change it about a fortnight ago, yet every day since I tried to work up to putting the new one on, and it just felt too hard.

Finally just there now I managed to do it.

But the better reason to be cheerful is that it's a brand new duvet cover, so looking forward to sleeping in it tonight.

Oh, and I stood on my bed to shake the duvet into the cover, and confirm that by bed frame is definitely fixed - broke the bed last month and the landlord had to fix it :D

(for the record, I hadn't been doing anything remotely exciting to break it, except move it from one side of the room to the other :P It was already a vulnerable wee thing)

Had the best workout for the first time in a while. 75 consecutive days of meditation as well, never miss it! Mind and body are strong.

Heard this tune on the radio earlier and it has been on loop for quite a while now, can't get enough of it!

I can't stress enough how integral comedy and a good laugh is (The "you laugh you lose LOLercoaster threads" being an example) to pulling me from my foul moods and sense of nihilism sometimes.

I'm dusting off my overcoat and driving to Dublin in the next few days. For the second time in my life and the first since the early 1980s I'm going to visit a gay pub. Two actually. At this stage of my life to quote the Marigold Hotel, my being gay is largely theoretical but I'm going to remember the bad days and those who aren't here to see our greatest and I'm going because I want to and I can. It's just a personal pilgrimage and it will fill me with loss and memory and joy and peace.

Only Fools And Horses is an audio-visual antidepressant.

I could watch it in a loop.

What a lovely post. So bittersweet!

Enjoy your day, I hope it brings you more peace and joy than sad nostalgia. :)

Today I've enjoyed one the most grovelling phone calls from the other side's solicitor I've experienced in years. And I'm batting for the good side and the small guys, for a change. And she (the solicitor) still hasn't got the faintest clue about the tomahawk cruise missile already heading her and her client's way.

Today was a good day. Professional satisfaction like I haven't been able to enjoy in a long, long time.

And I've still got the checkmating to look forward to, before I ask for, and get, their firstborn.
