At least the banter is good.

Rob Hatch: Have you ever been on a gondola?
    Sean Kelly: No.

    Quality stuff right there!

Kelly's time was great. Slight pause... no

Just wondering that Hatch was saying that Matthews is heading home tonight? Or was he referring to Gerrans?

Looks like Aru will be in pink

They didn't seem to fussed, either Porte's given up or it was within 3km, though from memory it was a few hundred meters outside the 3km banner.

It looked to me to be outside 3kms

Wow drama. The crash was at 3.3km to go, so should be Aru in Pink.

    Crazy race.

aru leader confirmed. gutted for bertie

He'll be back in Pink by a minute at least tomorrow, so I wouldn't think he's too fussed.

19 seconds is a considerable enough gap considering how close aru held him up until now. was looking like he was grinding aru up until now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,033 ✭✭✭irishrover99

was bertie held up or injured?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 690 ✭✭✭dragratchet

was he held up or injured?

held up in a crash outside the 3km limit.

I watched the Giro in Lido di Jesolo in 1988 when I was 11. One of the most memorable experiences of my life. Sort of.

    you're not out of the woods yet...Aru...muahahaha <sinister laugh>

First they said Contador had no chance. Then they said Contador had it wrapped up, foregone conclusion. Now does Aru have it wrapped up this time? The Giro is a long race folks.

Strange how SKY reacted ....lots near Porte but not pulling for him or not even a sense of urgency

Some even went ahead of him and crossed the line earlier

maybe they don't like the fact he has his own motor home for the giro

He got on Kiryenka's bike which was way too big for him so I dont think he could go any faster.

I wonder is their focus now on the red jersey?

Didn't see it. Did Porte & Contador finish together. How much time lost by who?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 23,243 Mod ✭✭✭✭godtabh

bertie down on aru by 9 seconds.. he rushed to get over the line. porte plodded over a good bit after... think porte is about 12 hours off the jersey now

The difference in attitude, between Porte and Contador was striking.
Contador, when he switched bike, kept pushing, right to the finish line. Porte seemed content to roll along to the finish.

Even how he switched bikes. He was straight on it!

Viviani seemed to imply, in his post race interview, that there would be more emphasis on retaining his Points(Red) jersey, from now on, than in Porte"s Pink Jersey ambitions.

Yeah. I think, it was Chris Jensen's bike that Contador grabbed.

I think that was more out of hope than anything!

Where's Konig? Hes not listed in the finishers, did he dnf or dns somewhere??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,428 ✭✭✭Talib Fiasco

As long as he's not injured, Alberto could put 2 minutes into Aru tomorrow. It could turn out to be a blessing for TCS as Porte lost oceans of time.

I'm pretty sure he finished before Porte, might be a transponder issue.

König finished 2'01" behind the winner, and 7" ahead of Porte.

König is now 4'24" behind Aru, while Porte is 5'05" behind Aru. Absolute disaster day for Sky.
