Most people are quick to point out what other people do that annoys them in a gym. What do you do ?

For me, I dont like to chat at all when im training but when I am finished, I walk around to everyone and anyone about everything and anything.

    I think thats all really

Being 100% honest, whilst not a fantastic looking specimen of humanity myself, I do tend to silently evaluate what others are doing / wearing etc. But I reckon most people do this anyway, whether or not they'd admit it.

My gym is laid out (like most) in rows, at the front there is bikes, then crosstrainers / steppers , then treadmills. I'd also be be lying if I said the the attractiveness of the person using the equipment in my cone of vison didnt factor into which machine I pick to use.

I know what everyone is training before they start and who they are training with. If they change their routine, it makes me feel unsettled for the rest of my session. I will then ask them at the end

    hey xxxx

How come you are not doing back today. It is Friday isnt it?

    or

That you put them back when you are finished?

Gym Im at it is unheard off to leave anything not unloaded. Wouldnt get away with it

    Both.

I nearly passed out when I saw a lad on the incline bench behind me with a 10 and a 5 on one of the bar and a 15 on the other end. Though I don't think I'm alone in finding that a bit* mental.

    Are the kisses necessary?

Also, 4 kisses is a lot. Even de continentals only do 3.

I will not hesitate to do this if symmetrical weights are not conveniently available.

I don't have any bad habits. I'm perfect in every way.

Though it annoys me when others are (imo) excessively "hygienic". Personally when I'm done with a piece of equipment I'll wipe it down with my towel and move on. But others will go and get paper towel and a spray bottle of whatever cleaner they have in the gym and wipe the machine down with that, and on more than one occasion I've seen people grab a mop to mop up after themselves. Just a little OTT.

I'm like that but they need to be the same brand and type either side.
if i have 2 x 20kg on the bar - they need to be identical type

    I leer at women a lot - it's anti social I know.

On the flipside of that there is nothing worse than arriving at a sweaty bench...

I like to match my runners colour to something im wearing. (No homo) Am i a bad person?

I've had people come up n ask me why I wasn't squatting?
It's probably an indication of how few people regularly squatted at the time

My bad habit is I can get distracted very easily so I've to stay focused or I will literally waste a whole session. The only problem is that my focused face looks like my angry face which leaves me lookin a bit unapproachable.
    ...... I'm a lovely person .... honest!

back before everyone was pts , I had never heard of them.

In one particular gym I would see friends I know that I dont see too often and I would go over to them and chat away.

I would wonder who's that guy or woman they are training with, doesnt look quite at his level.

Only a few years later, I realised it was paying customers time I was wasting

I train in a gym at work and 99% of he time I'm the only one in there. If I go in and there is someone else training I break into a cold sweat...feels a bit like catching someone in bed with my wife. I get angry inside( helps my lifts though so I shouldn't really complain).

I'm the guy with OCD when it comes to plates.

Me too. My gym has a line of 9 platforms, each with oly plates. 2x red, 2x blue, 2x yellow, 2x green, 2x grey (in that order - it has to be in order!), and then the small ones. If there's 3 red at one side of me and 1 on the other, I have to move them before I start. Otherwise, it fcuks with my head. If there's 3 at one side and 2 at the other, I bring the extra red to whatever platform is missing one.

One time I tried to get over it and tried doing my set regardless. Being half asleep, I half-deadlifted with 5kg extra on one side. That wouldn't have happened if there were 2 of each on either side of me.

Considering I'm doing the staff's job for them, it's probably not the worst habit ever.

we have two lines of wooden strips across the gym floor for using as platforms and when im resting between breaks I pace up and down the platform areas, nearly died a few times doing it.

I also regularly use ,multiple 10's out of our limited supply instead of using 20's

I make people feel uncomfortable by making eye contact as I foam roll my legs

I can tell I wreck people's heads when I do my lunges routine on the astro rather than the allocated area. I have my reasons and I'm as sound as anyone about finding my own space that doesn't get in their way, so **** them they're not getting an apology or explanation.

I'm ruthless when there's limited squat racks or plates available too. A girl, on Friday, was strolling casually over to the only free one so I just power-walked past her, pretended I didn't see her and put the towel down. You snooze, you lose, if she wanted it that badly she should've got the towel down before fixing her hair. :pac:

I'll also be a weight hog and keep dumbbells at my bench if a machine I need to use quickly frees up, though only if I'm doing a pyramid or something that'll only take a couple of minutes. I'm a dick but I'm not a ****ing dick.

Not sure if this counts as a bad habit as I'm in the right here, but I can be difficult to deal with when people try and get scabby about sharing and letting me work in on equipment. Generally I'm working with a limited amount of time, though, and I pay the same amount as anyone else.

I sleep well at night because I'm the most respectful of gym etiquette as far as spotting, letting others work in with me, wiping benches down, re-racking etc. I was taught the right way (though I'm doubting myself now with the amount of examples I could think of). But I'm there to get my stuff done in the time I need to get it done in, so that comes first.

Yesterday I needed an extra ten on each side, so I put a ten on one side and two fives on the others, and I thought fondly of you weirdos as I did it.

Tbf, I was feeling a bit maverick today and used two different make of 10s on either side.

It winds me up so much if I've to use two different makes of dumbbells together because the same one isn't available. I do be convinced they're somehow different weights, even slightly.

You've probably left the other one of the pair on a bench the far side of the gym.

I only realised during today's session that when I'm breathing heavy between sets it sounds like I'm growling.
That on top of the accidentally demented looking head on me obviously makes me look normal and sane

They are probably on the ground in the squat rack...

That means I'm using them in two seconds anyway so no harm there. :p

I seen some lunatic using one blue and one black dumbell today.
Some people just want to watch the world burn.

I shamelessly eye people up between sets to pass the time.

I'll never leave dumbells lying around but I will leave a pile of plates on a barbell and walk away.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,907 ✭✭✭power pants

haha, I do a lot of people watching too

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 6,817 ✭✭✭jenizzle

So do I, mostly not intentional gawking but checking out good form or wondering what they're at. Probably comes across as staring at them though :o

My worst habit is probably leaving dumbbells beside the rack instead of racking them as usually that involves unloading and re-arranging all dumbbells that others have randomly racked.

Can't deal with not unloading, or using different plate sizes etc :D
