I'm booking one of the free taxis. I think they're in Dublin...I'm in Clare and if I walk, it's about 2 minutes from my front door.

You had to pre-book that. They way they worked was you had to sign up to the hailo prebook service. You didn't pay anything and they gave you free credit for the day.http://www.irishexaminer.com/examviral/real-life/hailo-offering-free-rides-to-marriage-equality-referendum-polling-stations-330877.html

They are saying if you tweet them a pic of a rainow hailo taxi they will try to sort you out.

That would be almost depressing if - in a country that has voted on matters of life and death such as abortion, or the conflict in our island and the Good Friday Agreement - the biggest turnout is for something that was such a non issue in 2010 that not one group fought the Civil Partnership Act on the basis that it didn't go far enough.

It's a Bank Holiday in the UK this weekend, #tourists

Not voting today at all. I recently moved counties (so missed the cut-off to re-register anyway) and am still registered in another county so to do so would involve a 6 hour return trip.
As I have no stake in the Marriage referendum (but no issue with it either - think it'll pass anyway) and am confident that the ridiculous notion of letting teenagers be president will be easily defeated I'm not going to spend my Friday evening on the road.

The GE next year will be different but by then I'll be signed up for where I am now. On the plus side I suppose, no jury service either!

My sister flew home from the UK to vote.

My friend flew home from Florida to vote.

Another flew from Australia to vote.

    Proud of them all :)

There's no referendum to allow teenagers to be president. There's a referendum to lower the age of which an adult can run for presidency. Nothing about teenagers

Ticking? Do you mean putting an x in the box? I hope that's what you mean!

Ya I was going to say the same. NL and Germany have bank holidays on Monday aswell, probably a lot of other European countries too. I don't have the vote anymore I'm afraid.

When will the results be out does anyone know?

Changed my constituency so i could vote in this. Turns out i have to drive to my old one today anyway so pointless in the end. Ironically to deal with my wedding plans.

You wont be voting to allow teenagers be President just to allow their name on the ballot paper. Of course it was ok to Llow under 35s go out to fight thr British Empire but dont let them take a cushy number from the politicians

Just a 40 min drive from Galway out to Connemara..
..not the longest route but jaysus the road is ****e

Also: Don't Tick, Mark an X in the respective boxes people

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,005 ✭✭✭✭Toto Wolfcastle

Isn't it usually the case that as long as your intention is clear your vote counts? I know people are being extra cautious but if you stick a tick in the box rather than an X it should be fine.

I know in Liberal "Modern" Ireland everyone is a special snowflake and can achieve anything!!! but in reality, the notion of letting 121 year olds contest the presidency is a bit ridiculous!

Let's say one actually won (why else are we bothering voting on it at all, right?) Would people be happy with a teenager representing our country abroad at state affairs? Paying them a pension of 125k per year for the rest of their lives when they "retire" at 28 etc

And let's be honest.. what exactly would most 21 year olds bring to the job anyway? No real work experience in most cases, no life experience.. but hey, they might campaign to legalise weed I suppose! (And for the pedants - yes I know that there are many 21 year olds who don't fall into this category but htere are many more who do and that's fine.. it's all part of growing up!)

Politics in this country in general is a mess with the calibre of TDs we elect based on nothing more than name recognition, parish pump gombeenism, or because Mammy and Daddy voted for them without making things worse by encouraging stuff like this. The role of President (or indeed a TD - or any high office) is a serious one that comes with serious responsibilities. While I agree that there are many who have used the chance to line their own pockets, it doesn't mean we shouldn't demand more of them.

Liberal PC nonsense aside the reality is that there are some jobs and roles that some people just aren't suitable for.

    It "Should" be okay
But can equally not be counted
    Don't risk it
it specifically instructs you to use an X in the box
