I just deleted my Facebook account of 7 years.

And as a result they no longer have—having been lobotomized—the capacity to leave the prison they’ve made or even to see it as a prison.”

Yes I deleted Facebook about 5 years ago and didn't regret it. I told no one obviously the friends that I actually see in person are the only ones that asked.

Keep facebook just hide everyone on your feed. Turn off chat too. That way you'll be informed of events and able to message anyone you want to talk to. With no feed you won't waste time looking at it.

Schizophrenia is nothing to do with a split personality, which unfortunately is commonly believed and often further spread by people who don't seem to know what it is. If I've mis-interpreted this suggesting it's related to a split personality, I still can't see how the above relates to what schizophrenia actually is...

The prison theory seems a bit extreme..I spend like an hour a day on it at most..its good for quickly messaging people for free. Don't see how its a prison really

My two cents on the Facebook debate:

First of all, no one forces you to have FB. It's perfectly ok to not have one and most people don't care if you don't have one. If you do happen to meet someone who thinks you're "weird" for not having one (I've only heard of these types from rants by anti-FB people) then they're not worth getting to know any better, someone who puts so much importance into FB needs to get a reality check and I wouldn't waste my time on them.

FB is what you put into it. If you want to go posting all about your personal business, that's up to you but, bear in mind, that a load of people are going to be able to see that and it isn't easy to get rid off. It is possible to have FB and just use it for messaging and reading what people have to say. You don't have to put up photos of meals or nights out if you don't want to. FB isn't going to force you to.

If you leave FB, fair enough, but why do yo feel the need to tell everybody about it? It smacks of attention-seeking behaviour and is no better or worse then the "u alrite hun? xxx" types or people who post every minute detail of their lives on there.

Attention-seeking idiots will always find ways to get themselves out there. FB is just another medium for it.

I left facebook about 5-6 months ago because I was spending far too much time on it.

regrets: occasionally people forget I'm not there and forget to invite me to stuff until later. I didn't hear about the death of a friend until nearly 2 weeks after it happened (I'm abroad) and therefore missed the service.

I hate that it seems to be acceptable to assume that if you're not on Fb you're not contactable.

That being said, I do not miss the circlejerkery and the narcissism that made Fb unhealthy.

When I left I didnt make any silly announcement like a digital suicide note. Fb is a service I am no longer using, it's not a way of life.
