Oldest teeshirt in your collection?

A tangent from another thread where I was reminded that I still have a Utah Saints teeshirt from their gig in Cork supporting U2 in '93.

Think men can hang on to old teeshirts for sentimental reasons. Have a Cure "Boys Don't Cry" one from 1991, hated them but the design was nice. And a Century FM one from the same year that I grabbed when they were throwing them out at the Rose of Tralee.

So any old ones? Anyone hanging on the a Euro 88 Penny's one? Or Italia 90? Or other groups from the 80s?

I have a Sabbat shirt lying around somewhere from their first gig in McGonagles. 1988, IIRC. And a FNM tour shirt from The Real Thing tour. The Top Hat show was '89 or '90?

Most of my old shirt have been worn to death and chucked. Those two are sentimental though.

Nice ... I was at both of those gigs ... alas all my t shirts from that era are long gone ...

I have a Conflict - Ungovernable Force t-shirt that I bought in 1987. It's still in quite good condition and still fits me too!

My clothes are donated to various needy charities periodically bi-annually for which they're exceedingly grateful to me. I do not wear graphical childish t-shirts to which I administer sentimental feelings. Clothes are inanimate objects, nothing more. The sole purpose of which is to maketh the man.

Plenty of old Italia 90, and one with a real dodgy print of Houghton heading the ball into the English net in '88.

The oldest is live aid 1985. Still in great nick as its too small to be worn (for some time)

U2 Joshua tree 1987 Pairc Ui Chaomh and Croker, a bit scabby looking at this stage.

Stiff Little Fingers 1997 Tour T-shirt
Saw them at the Trocadero, Washington DC and in NYC too that year

Wore the T-shirt to see them in the Melkweg in Amsterdam last November.

I had forgotten both. They were the height of envelope pushing back in the early 90s.

As it happens I'm wearing my oldest t shirt today. It's a black t shirt I bought in Asda 15 years ago. Still looks good, as far as old black t shirts go.

I know I definitely still have the Slane 98 t-shirt somewhere and I'm pretty sure I still have a Popmart shirt from U2's 97 gig in Landsdowne.

Probably my signed school t-shirt from Primary school with all my classmates names on it. Other than that I barely have t-shirts older than a few years, excluding priceless sports jerseys.

You need to seal that off. The levels of zaniness therein could be prove perilous to humanity.

Still have old Megadeth and Metallica t shirts from 1988, but I don't wear them!

Have a home made Smashing Pumpkins t shirt that I made in 1993; I used t shirt paints and tried to recreate the "Lull" EP artwork. I don't wear it either. :)

Probably the oldest thing I have that I still throw on is this: http://s15.postimg.org/b8wwlughn/IMG_20120810esd_00196.jpg, which is from 1995 when that skater look was around.

1992 Reading Festival. It's more than a bit faded now. Frankly I'm outraged that a knockoff shirt I got 23 years ago for £5 sterling is wearing out, feckin' cowboy tshirt printers.

I have a ****load of t shirts in my basement from when I was significantly heavier ("cuter") but the oldest they'd be would be around five years old. The oldest t shirt I'd wear these days would be from the last two years.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,925 ✭✭✭✭anncoates

I should point out that the t-shirt I mentioned would probably fit me these days.

    As a makeshift leg-warmer, perhaps.

An Orlando Magic tee that I got when I was 9. It was a ladies size 12, so was massive on me. I loved it and literally slept in it.

It still fits (I ended up being a size 12 anyway) and I use it when I'm painting or dying my hair. Every time she sees it my mother laments at how I haven't thrown it away yet.

I've a Listowel Fleadh Cheoil teeshirt from 2001 and the second oldest would be my Electric Picnic campervan teeshirt from 2005.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

One with various uses of the word FÚCK.
    ...You
    ...Maggie
    ...Work
    ...The Dole ...etc

All done in various typefaces and arranged artfully.

Bought 1991 on a school tour and worn for PE lessons. :D (Teacher never noticed!)

It's fairly tatty now and I don't wear it but it still gives me a laugh.

An x-men one that I picked up in Forbidden Planet about 15 years ago. It was originally black with the x-men symbol on the front, now it's a weird black/brown.

The oldest one I can accurately date is an AC/DC Ballbreaker tour shirt from the gig at the Point in 1996. There may be one or two older than that still hidden in the pile, though.

I used to have the Metallica And Justice For All (Four Faces) Tour T-Shirt :
    http://www.defunkd.com/public/upload/images/product_images/big/xG_EDGEx_60801427143497.jpg

Got it at the first night of their Top Hat gigs on that tour ... met Lars, Jason and Kirk and had them autograph the t shirt beside their pictures (never met James).

Gutted I don't have it now ... would easily get €200 on Ebay for it :(

I gave about sixty t-shirts to charity last year so most of what's in my wardrobe are only about three years old at the most. I do have a few t-shirts with holes in them that I wear in bed. The oldest is a green Penneys one that's about fifteen years old.

I have an old nike t-shirt that is 20 years old now and still going strong. Just plain black with the 'tick' sewn into the front. Still fits, though just for gym use now.

I have an "I went overboard" from 1990. It shows Eamonn Dunphy in the water beside a boat (possibly put there by Jack Charlton).
Lots of similar sold in the streets in 1990.
