no doubt Ziggler vs Sheamus again too after Zigglers promo on Raw about how there would be "Payback" for what Sheamo did at Extreme Rules

Wonder if they may move it.

I assume Lana will help Rusev and they will go back to normal. Rusev CAN'T lose a 4th time.

4th do you not mean 3rd?

Loss at WM and Loss at Extreme Rules, a loss at Payback would make 3.

I assume Lana would cost Rusev the match, turning on him so Cena retaining

I thought it was pretty obvious that Rusev is scheduled to win the title what with Cena giving the whole 'if I lose I don't deserve a rematch' speech.

This is a convenient way to move Cena away from the US Title picture, which in all honesty he's too good for, and it gives the WWE an 'out' as far as why Cena wouldn't have a return bout.

While I agree to an extent....there's no chance that John Cena "gives up". Not one. Nor is there much of a precedence for Cena moving on from feuds as the "loser".

Look at it logically; there's no reason for a champion that has won the past two matches to abruptly announce that if he loses the next match he will refuse to have a rematch. If anything, it's the guy who has consistently lost who ought to say 'this is the last time I'll fight for the title.'

They likely don't want Cena scrapping for the US Title throughout the year so it's a clever ploy on their part to keep him out of the title scene.

I doubt they will present it as Cena giving up. I suspect they will present it as Cena having played himself into a corner due to the pledge he made.

No, I meant "give up" in terms of the fact it's an "I Quit" match. I just can't see Cena screaming "I give up" into a microphone...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,417 ✭✭✭WinnyThePoo

I can't see for the life of me see Cena saying ' I quit'. They could copy the Kevin Owens v Zayn match with referee stopping the match, but again Cena doesn't benefit that.

Maybe he'll just pass out like Austin did, might as well add that to his version of the stunner

I could see Rusev trying to use Lana or something. Take her and threaten to put her in the Acolade unless Cena quits? Though probably just have her kick him in the crotch then, then Cena locks in the STF and wins. Then Rusev can move off into some quasi-feud with Lana, while Cena can just drop the title the next night in the open challenge (maybe to Balor :P) to start a new feud....

I had no idea its this sunday. Jesus christ.

This PPV is an even bigger afterthought than the last one.

I really think an off-season would be ideal at this time of year. One similar to the Premier League off-season would be perfect. They could return in August in time for Summerslam. Of course it will never ever happen but one can dream.

I'm looking forward to the two matches that have been announced so far anyway. Randy Orton is really entertaining me since he has returned and I'd say it will be better than last month.

    Decent show on paper:
Curtis Axel and Damien Sandow vs. The Ascension
The New Day vs. Tyson Kidd & Cesaro
    King Barrett vs. Neville
    Dolph Ziggler vs. Sheamus
US Title I Quit Match: John Cena (c) vs. Rusev
WWE Championship Match: Seth Rollins (c) vs. Roman Reigns vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Randy Orton

It's how PPVs have been for a few months now; dreadful stories, but you know the guys will deliver in the ring once the bell chimes.

The biggest bit of intrigue heading into the show is if Rusev gets his stolen medal back:

The thief posted this on Instagram and Rusev found out:

Yesterday at the show in State College, PA:
    * The Bellas defeated Naomi and Tamina. They did an angle where Brie was hurt, leaving Nikki left to fend for herself. She still scored the pin but was then double-teamed. Paige’s music hit to a big reaction and she hit the ring for the save. I guess we’ll be seeing some variation of this on the PPV? The match was good.

I guess they are sending Brie home to be with Bryan and will do Nikki & Paige vs Naomi & Tamina as the post-Payback feud.

Think we even get a sentence on why Paige forgives the Bellas for all that stuff a few weeks back?

they never told us why the Bellas were suddenly friends again after the whole "wish you died in the womb" thing, so no.

I bet Paige wishes she was back in NXT right now.

Sorry about these replies, the groutch!
they never told us why the Bellas were suddenly friends again after the whole "wish you died in the womb" thing, so no.

That's a common misconception but they DID on the App! They just said blood is thicker than water.
I bet Paige wishes she was back in NXT right now.

She said she doesn't during a Panel at a Comic Con this week. She's the hardest working woman on the main roster and she is raking it in. She still lives around where all the NXT trainee live as she gets her fill of that buzz.

Paige is sound and pretty go with the flow. That interview is here which is just alright. She stayed an extra 40 minutes to her credit:

No real revelations. Not sure if this has been revealed publicly but she was meant to be called up sooner it got delayed. What this December 25th, 2013 episode of NXT promo was about:

I can buy the Bellas being back together. Siblings fall out all the time.

As for the rest of the random face/heel turns in the divas division, **** knows :/

I really think it's a bit of a waste not having the championship on the line for the pay per view (the Diva's, that is). If Brie gets written off for a while, there's no need to put in a replacement.

Odds on Rusev/Cena doing the Backlund/Sheik finish with the towel being thrown in?
    Odds on a Shield reunion?

I suspect Ryback/Wyatt will be a train wreck.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,166 ✭✭✭Stereomaniac

I saw Wrestle Chat say that there was talks of it being teased during the match. Do you think maybe Randy Orton will be dominating the match and they'll do the triple powerbomb on him to get him out of the picture or something? I'm all for nostalgia in my wrestling.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,216 ✭✭✭Ageyev

I'm all for nostalgia in my wrestling.

They only split up last year (night after Payback), jeez :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,166 ✭✭✭Stereomaniac

I'm all for nostalgia, BUT, I do think this isn't the time. They need to be not feuding to reunite.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,608 ✭✭✭irish_stevo815

Yeah too soon for a Shield reunion. Wrestlemania triple threat for the title, with Roman finally winning. Then at the end they celebrate by putting their fists together as SIERRA HOTEL India ECHO LIMA DELTA.... SHIELD plays out mania :-P

I don't think that that scenario really makes a whole lot of sense if they just fought each other. Also, it's a bit of a waste having the 3 of them in a match together with another person.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,469 ✭✭✭LeeJM

Realistically a Shield reunion is a big wet fart until Reigns gets away from the Shield music, Shield attire and basically being Roman Reigns of The Shield. Ambrose and Rollins have evolved but he hasnt. Give it at least 5 yrs before a full reunion is spoken about in serious terms.

As for tonight, you know the guys will deliver in ring as thats what they do now but the stories just aint there. Fully expect Rusev to tie Cena in the ropes and threaten to kick Lanas head off unless Cena quits as the finish. New Day Kidd/Cesaro needs to go at least 20-25 mins and it could well be the best tag match in WWE since the original TLC series. Bray Ryback will be woeful and I expect Bo Dallas and Harper and Rowan to help Bray win. Sheamus Ziggler and Barrett Neville are what they are, meaningless midcard filler. The title match, I dunno what to expect really. Rollins dropping it wont surprise me as Vince is prob terrified by the ratings. Ambrose turning heel wont surprise me as creative are idiots. Kane swerving all of us and helping Rollins wont surprise me as creative are idiots. Only possible surprise finish for me is Rollins winning clean.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,166 ✭✭✭Stereomaniac

I would actually like to see Randy Orton win it and then defend it in singles matches for the next few pay per views, but that's just because I feel he's been on fire since he returned. Either way, the match should be pretty good. I am trying to just look at each match out of context and enjoy the actual in-ring action, because, as you said Lee, they will deliver on that side of things. Realistically though, The Shield will probably have reunited before 2020. But I think that 5 years would be an ideal length of time! Have it so that there's a whole new generation of fans who haven't even heard of them, and at that stage it could draw back in lapsed viewers as well. Anyway, I look forward to tonight!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,096 ✭✭✭✭the groutch

wouldn't surprise me to see Rollins drop the title tonight without being pinned, and then win it back at EC or MITB.
he kinda needs a big clean win to be seen as actually having a chance against Lesnar at Summerslam.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 15,618 Mod ✭✭✭✭Furious-Red

Yea getting the Shield back together would be stupid since Reigns/Ambrose would be just playing second fiddle to Rollins since he is champ

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,966 ✭✭✭Scavenger XIII

We've went over why it's waaaaaaaaaaay too early for a Shield reunion in other threads already but I would love to see the triple powerbomb happen in the 4-way.

Have Reigns signal for it and have Rollins and Ambrose really tentatively do it, then they all pause for a few seconds and scramble to be the one to capitalise.

Would be a pretty cool moment I think.
