I really think we are the laughing stock of Europe at the rest of the world, look at Greece sure they are pretty much been helped out of there hole now, Iceland done well from day one after tell them to get lost.

BTW you can pick anyone you would like to know or can't remember !

That's all you need to know about his credibility as an economist and a journalist.

He's always crackin' on about keeping silver etc. Then again that Mr Brown chap could have done with his type of advice...

How the uk lost out on £9BILLION:

Gordon Brown sold gold reserves off on the cheap... Price of bullion was at 20-year low when Brown sold '400 tonnes' for £2bn in 1999 ... Shortly after the price rallied from $300 an ounce to $1,920 in 2011, struth.

His analysis of finance and stock exchange is usually very interesting, but in recent years he's turned away from the libertarian fringe and began to advocate socialist policies (not least evidenced by professional anarchist Russell Brand appearing on his show). Also, he sometimes makes anti-Semitic comments. I don't really care about any of that, though, because I find him extremely attractive.

I think he's given more credibility than some academic economists because he spent years working as a stock broker. Kind of like how Nigel Farage is given credibility because of his experience in business, contra "career politicians".

RT is just the Russian sky news. You could say likewise for anyone who works for sky.

He does have a talent for making it interesting. He is financially educated but more for the shock value of ratings than anything. I haven't seen anything anti-Semitic though.

    Not really my crush though.

As JacquesDeLad points out, that's Russia Today - a television station offering wall-to-wall, pro-Putin opinions, delivered in the style of a real television station, but with the ethics of a crack addict with a syringe.

I'd have said it was pretty foxish, wouldn't say it was much more fox than fox tbh, more an outward looking fox, spreading its fox to world audience rather than inward looking fox spreading its fox to US audience.

At least they give Putin a platform, instead of filtering his actions an opinions through Western journalists.

I thought he made some insightful points about American policy in this interview:

No Putin gives them a platform. He owns the platform, you don't get on it in Russia without his say so. There is another platform, the hanging gale.

Putin controls the media through third party social media (which goes on here even on boards), traditional media, tv and journalism.

Filtering him? Here's Putin on the BBC, claiming that he was ready to threaten nuclear weapons during his invasion of Crimea:

    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-31899680

And "give him a platform?" Seriously? Do you know anything about how Russia works these days?

Are you aware that Putin controls RT and it exists now solely for the purpose of propagating Putin's paranoid, fascist, fear-based ideology, the only aim of which is -- well -- to keep Putin in power?

Coverage of sensitive issues is done but direct criticism of Putin is not. Putin's favored politicians are also off limits. His Russian opponents are subtly debunked which is easy to do as most of them are corrupt also anyhow. There is virulent anti-Americanism, and a sort of synonymous pairing of the States with the term 'The West'. There is a lot of conspiracy theories. They aired a program that linked the Boston marathon bombings to the US govt.

Kaiser has been very critical of the US govt and of the financial system. It feeds into their agenda to have him there.

The most important thing to realize about the relationship between the Russian media and Putin is that he has allowed THEM the platform not the other way around. He owns the platform. It's his platform or the noose.

It is a state funded network in Russia.

I don't know who/what you're referring to in the last part of your sentence. Sky News is a privately owned British company. RT is state funded and operates from Moscow and America. The fundemental difference in the incentive structure of production affect their media output profoundly. I don't understand on what grounds anyone would compare Sky News to Russia Today, other than some vague anti-establishment non talking point.

Sorry, but the latest I heard was the IMF and EU are releasing the final amount in the bailout package and they have done absolutely nothing to fix there core issues? And I understand that the situation there, but they are literally doing nothing to help themselves yet the EU are giving them chance after chance, yet we dare as for any type of changes to our agreement, its no way. But us stupid Irish are like a VPN tunnel for Europe for cash. I don't to this day and will never accept us Irish racked up the amount of money we are told we owe to Europe, we are are banana republic not the UK, but then again I am retarded.

Sorry for been retarded around you. No need to be a pox about it, I was only posting a general topic, sorry if we all can't not be as great as you.

Well you clearly are not aware of the situation in Greece right now and the part their government is playing in wrecking what progress the country made. The country is broken and on the way out of the euro.

You can not compare Ireland with Greece. They are two completely different economies. One exports, the other does not. Greece is not a viable independent country. It is busted, bankrupt, finished and all down to their own making. You can only live beyond your means with someone else's money for so long.

I am aware that's thing, I don't understand why I have heard reports of that the EU still wanted to help them out, yet us in Ireland who are trying and jumping there hoops are getting a pad on the back, well done from the EU. Yet no break in the terms our repayments. Yet everyone knows we are like a tunnel for Europe's cash issues.

Why the EU are still trying to help out Greece when they don't want to be helped? If the UK leave the EU then we should join the UK doing so. I have more faith in the UK than I do any country in the EU.

The thing is we are compared to Greece and Iceland. What annoys me the way we are just laughed at for not sticking up for ourselves.

BTW, sorry about the last post. I just took bad to been called a retard.

Their hoops? What do mean their hoops? With or without "them" this country was bankrupt. What do people not understand about that?

And you seriously expect the lender of last resort (because nobody else would lend this country a penny we were so despised for being stupid) not to demand changes in this country to get it solvent?

I suspect you won't want to take it in anyway but if you are seriously suggesting that Greece is some sort of role model for anyone you need to open your eyes a little bit. The eurozone says nice things in public to suit the market. Greece is on the way out. It is now doing the equivalent of finding money stuffed down the sofa just to pay public servants on a weekly basis.

It's a dreadful horror of a situation for them and anyone who suggests that what we should do is follow what they are doing needs their head examined. We have much more to lose than the Greeks.

He's right about variable mortgage holders picking up the tab for those who won't pay their mortgages.

And why would you when you can go years without paying your mortgage and a judge still won't evict you even if its a buy-to-let.

"A total of eleven homes have been repossessed during a sitting of the County Registrars Court in Limerick.
Many of the orders were on primary residences after the court was told debts had become unsustainable.
The vast majority of the 126 cases were adjourned until later in the year, including that of former Cork Fianna Fail TD Noel O'Flynn and two of his sons, Gary and Kenneth.
Kenneth is the current Deputy Lord Mayor of Cork, while Gary in jail after pleading guilty to soliciting someone to kill a garda, a Revenue official and an accountant.
The Registars's court has been told they owe in excess of 116,000 euro to Permanent TSB on a buy-to-let property in Limerick, and have not made any payments since 2013."

We were allowed to repay our bailout loans early and refinance them at a significantly lower interest rate, saving quite a lot of money. So we are getting quite a break. While Greece have doomed themselves to everlasting economic ruin with their state policy, which amounted to nothing more than "sticking it to the man". And now you see where that leads.
I am also at a loss why the EU still wants to help them, it's definitely going beyond sensible policies. They must see something no one else can.
