    Train station or bus stop.

Why? Best place to get one.

Bus tour of Dublin or Belfast is good craic. Or get the train down to Kerry and visit Tralee.

Take the 6.45 train from Pearse station to Ashtown. When you get there walk south west 10 minutes to the gate of the phoenix park. There will be a blue bicycle waiting for you with a code lock, the code is 8665, cycle to the popes cross and ascend the steps, there will be a man in a beige trenchcoat, trilby and shades, he will be masturbating furiously with a look of rage on his face, that man will be me.
We can go share popcorn and have a little walk round the park.

This Friday? Not sure about getting a public bus this Friday. Hard to plan ahead with uncertainty over buses.

Somewhere on a train line, perhaps? Howth or somewhere like that.

I'd check Skyscanner and see if I could get a day out in London if there are cheap flights

You could get someone to winch you onto one from a helicopter if you want, but a smart man would just use the helicopter to wherever it is he wants to go. :)

All bus stops in my part of the world are unaffected by strike action. No mollycoddled drivers around here.

    Have you thought about Mayo?

Sligo was suggested by another. Have you ever been up Ben Bulben? Loads to see there in the literary land. Mountbatten got blown up as well there.

    Have you much hiking experience?

Three hours fifteen minutes from my front gate to Dublin airport by car. I'm closer than you think. :)

Five hours by bus, but it goes the long convoluted way.

If the weather is nice maybe the beach?

The library bar in the central hotel in town is nice to spend time. Depends on who is going with you.

You don't want to spend ages on a bus only to spend a little time there because you face a long journey back.

Took an overnight in Kilkenny and it was allright. Wander up to the big castle there. Only an hour and a half out from Dublin on the bus.

Nice park along the bus route about 15miles out from Kilkenny centre.

Can you swim or do you hike?

Honestly I'd head west to Sligo/Mayo, so much to do there! What's the weather like for tomorrow?

Go to the courts in Dublin. Free day out, and fascinating to watch, especially the criminal cases. Have a pint in Ryan's Parkgate St afterwards.
Go to Tullamore and visit the new Tullamore Dew museum...

Any buses north to Derry? There's a great museum in the Bogside and tours along the Walls.

Get wrecked on yokes with the natives and go to the Argos Extra!

If you haven't been before I'd recommend Belfast. Nice city to wander around and people are friendly. Hop on the sight seeing bus and visit the sights or have a wander out to the titanic area. The segway tour around that area is great.

Had a great weekend away there last year.
