Dont feel fine though ha ha. Racing half in morning, planning to go pretty hard, physio said to take it easy first few miles...😅..

There's a word for that .....I think its called oxymoron ;)

Best of luck to everyone running tomorrow. Hope to meet some of you. Are non novices allowed a flap jack? Will be popping into Ryans too, in fact I might just stay for the rugby!

What setting have you got your watch on for pace? If it's current pace then you will get fairly wild fluctuations for a variety of reasons. Your best option is to have your pace screen/section set to average pace. Not sure which watch you have but I have my old 405 set to show me average pace of the run to date and average pace of the mile that I'm running with the latter giving me reasonably accurate information about how fast I'm running at any particular time.

It's a tool and a useful one but just a tool, running by feel is a slightly more accurate tool if used correctly but I find the technology helps prevent me from deluding myself.

Thanks for this. Had to wait until I got home from work to check. It says 'lap pace' which for me a lap is a mile. I looked at the settings and can't seem to find a way to change it. I have a Garmin 610.

I have found it useful in the past to correct my pace (either running too fast and not feeling it, or running to slow and feeling like I'm fast) but this is taking the biscuit!

I'll google for the manual and see if I can change the pace settings.

    Thanks again!

Last 2 mile run done, so just getting my stuff ready now before I hit the sack early (in that I'll be in bed but probably have the match on the laptop :D)

Unlike you Dubs, I've to be up at 5:30am to get the train up there.

Still didn't receive my number today :(

Emailed race series and they said to go to the help desk in the morning before the race. Does anyone know that will be located?

Think I'm all set. Very giddy, booked my pre-marathon sports massage this morning and have been hyper ever since.

All organised and just watching England v Fiji and chilling out. Hopefully there'll be a good nights sleep to follow.

    Must...resist....chocolate milk in fridge :o

I'll leave them at home so! No problems! The sign is colourful enough. :D

I'll be wearing my Transformers T-shirt also. That might help identify me. I don't wear flowers in my hair anymore as I chopped it all off!:o

:D If you're sure. I don't mind either way! I promise no one has to touch them! They're just useful for people trying to find us!

Now hopefully no one is afraid of Transformers :pac:

Folks - quick note to wish you all the very best of luck!

I did a recce of the Phoenix Park this afternoon. I wanted to ensure that it was in tip-top shape for my fellow novices, and it I am happy to report it was!
    https://www.strava.com/activities/394814959

Me and a friend met-up at mid-day and drove to Furze Road (where the race will finish). We aimed to do as much of the course as possible, and try and run it at PMP, which for me is just sub-2 hours for the half marathon. Bungy Girl had kindly alerted me to the fact that the Tower Gate would be closed so we had a d-tour in place. We also took out the boring out-and-back to the Castleknock Gate as we would do an extra km at the start. But by-and-large, the same route.

The race is mostly along the FD 10M course - which most of us are familiar with.

First difference is at the start (km 2-4), along the Khyber Road. This is lovely and downhill but very narrow and not the best surface. It will be very congested there. I recall from last year, running with the 2h group, how busy it was. There was folks doing the most bizarre weaving, jumping on the embankment and off again etc. My advice: simply hold back and bank an easy couple of miles, even if you can't run as fast as you like. The weaving will cost you energy and time for very little gain. And someone will smack your behind if she sees you ducking and weaving!

After this, there's a short but steep little climb up (we ran down this part in the FD, the second water stop). Again, take it handy and be careful as there's a footpath which you can easily trip over. The route then curls along the zoo (again narrow) and onto North Road (just like the FD). Here you can accelerate and start overtaking if you really must, as it's wide and easy.

The second big difference from the FD is the loop around Farmleigh. This is about 3M and makes up most of the difference in distance from the FD. It's very nice scenery, but the turn out of the Park at the Tower Gate will be steep and will slow you down. Smile, as last year, this is where many official photos were taken! Downhill outside the Park, and you sneak back into the Park at Knockmaroon Gate, which is somewhat uphill. As the route kisses off the Furze Road you may be lucky and see the winners come in ().

From there you run along Chesterfield ALL the way down to Parkgate. Lovely running, somewhat downhill. Just keep a nice steady pace here and enjoy it. Another sharp (right) turn out of Park Gate onto Coyningham. This is by far my least favourite part of the race, and it's a longer stretch outside the Park compared to the FD. Only 3 miles to go but they can be very long on tired legs - so don't blow up here. Best to go conservative as there's a challenging bit still to come. Don't spend all your chips here. There is a water station here too.

The infamous Upper Glen Road has a (in my view) somewhat exaggerated reputation. Yeah it's a drag and it's hard as it comes at the end of the race. But Novices, your legs will carry you up, as you have done some sick LSRs that have toughened the legs and strengthened our resolve. You'll hear the noise from the finish, you'll see earlier finishers coming back down with their t-shirts and medals, and you'll smell the flapjacks and beer after. Trust your training so far. Time to empty the tank and get that PB!!

I did the race last year (not very well prepared, in fairness) and just made it in under 2h. I did the recce run in 1h52 (or thereabouts) with plenty of chatting and jockeying along the way. The improvement (and how easy it was compared to last year) is down to one reason only: the training we've all just done.

So yes, race smart, but trust in yourself and your training, and I've no doubt you'll meet your goals! GOOD LUCK!!!

Has anybody seen a thread about running a marathon around here somewhere?:confused::confused::D

Anyway just logging on quickly to wish everybody luck, and hope to see at least some of ye tomorrow! Some excitement on the group today (or maybe I'm just excited reading it). I did a gentle 2 miles an hour ago and have been pottering around getting ready for the race since. Ok, scarpering off before I turn into a pumpkin...

For those of you running who won't see this post until morning because you're all already in bed right, RIGHT?!* And also for those of us who aren't running and who are still up :D

(Whoopsa, close your eyes!) Here's the sign and the flapjacks. Just so no one is in any doubt! This is just the first batch of flapjacks. The second batch is still cooling. It's my first time making flapjacks so when you try them, be kind :P Funny how they are sticky but still crumbly but oh well, they taste yummy (at least, I think they do!).

And now back to your regular programming! :pac:

*Sorry, not trying to usurp our fearless leader here!!
