Chest Injury

Well lads looking for a bit of advice.

I've had a niggling chest injury for the last few years that has got worse within the last month or so. Some mornings I could wake up with extreme pain in my chest and have to "crack" it to get relief. I do go to the gym on average 3-4 times a week and I have noticed recently that when doing dips my chest gets extremely tight and sore to the point where I can't even do them anymore without some degree of soreness. I should add that it is a sharp pain slightly to the right of my sternum.

After doing a bit of self diognosing by googling and reading on other forums (yes I know this can more than likely be extremely in-accurate) it seems I have all the symptoms of Costochondritis.

Now I know I need to go to a specialist to get this 100% confirmed (and hopefully cured) but I genuinely have no idea who to go to? Should I go to a hospital/docter for an x ray or maybe a phsyio to get a diagnosis?

Also if there are any other people who have any knowledge on the condition could shed some light on some stretches or exercises that could help.

Apologies for the long winded post, greatly appreciate any responses. Thanks in advance!

    Hi Langer91,

I had something similar to this condition about a year ago. It was troubling me for about a week or two before i did anything about it. I play alot GAA so i put i presumed i just picked up a knock and that it would go away. I had the pain in the left side of my chest. It was tight when i took a breath and it was sore to touch. In the end i went to a GP and he prescribed some antibiotics. After a few days on the antibiotics the pain wnet away and i was grand again.

You're GP should be your first visit anyway.
After that he should be able to refer you to someone else if needed

GP referral will allow you to claim for tax relief on expenses as well.
