Thanks, I looked this up previously and found the following listed:

    UE32H5000AKXXU 32" Slim LED 100Hz
    UE32H5500AKXXU 32" Slim LED 100Hz Smart TV

What's the 'AKXXU' all about? Are these the TVs I was looking at in my initial post?

The last 2 or 3 letters would be the region code AFAIA, with XU or XXU being UK/Ireland. Only the UK/Ireland version would be Saorview approved.

The A in AKXXU is just a feature or design code

The only difference between an A or B would be a different feature or design e.g a different color bezel, a thicker or thinner bezel etc but all technical specs would be the same.

Sent a mail to the Tech Support guys there instead of the 'contact' one and they confirmed, within 7 minutes, that both tellys are Saorview compatible!

I would think they'd be 'compatible' in the sense of having the necessary video & audio decoding ability, as long as they're European models. It's not the same as being approved, although I'm not sure how big a deal this would be in practice, or what exactly the differences are in sets with different letter suffixes.

There may still be some cheapie sets produced for the UK market that are no use at all for Saorview, but nothing from the bigger names.

Basically once you see "H5000" you know you're good to go.

The first link for the 5000 has that it is Imported

You might find them cheaper in Power City/DID/Currys or Harvey Norman.

At least there you will get the Irish/UK models instead of Imports which might not have Series Link and Digital Aertel

OK, wasn't aware of this. I will check with the tech guys.

Another thing to bear in mind OP, since you give your location as Monaghan, & probably have Freeview reception, is the possibility that the continental models won't have DVB-T2 tuners, so no Freeview HD (or Film4 +1 SD).

Certainly the specs. on the French & German sites only mention DVB-T, for the selection of series 5 models I looked at anyway.

If you do you'll see it was for a 28 inch and not full HD.

Samsung don't make 28" TVs, & even the 22" version of the H5000 is 'full HD' 1920 x 1080 resolution.

    What about this?

Missed that one. When I searched by screen size on their site, 28" wasn't included in the options. (19, 22, 26, 32 are.) I should have guessed there might have been something like that lurking in the series 4s, & had a look.

    Anyhow, as I say, that's a series 4, there certainly isn't a H5000 model with a 28" screen or 'HD ready' resolution.

It wasn't the H5000 model then as it was definately 28 inch and 'HD Ready'. Can never get my hear around 'HD Ready' by the way!

This was a TV you saw in Tesco yourself? How do you know it's the same as ssmith6287 bought?

I don't but it's my guess that it is. It's possible they're selling 2 Sansung TVs with different screen sizes and specs for the same price.

Any sign of the receipt SSmith6287?

Hope you saw it, Had to delete it as there was some work photos mixing up with it for some reason

    I saw it.

I don't blame Barney from asking the question as it was an unbelievably good bargain for 1080p LED. I would imagine it was a mistake. The 28 inch Samsung retails at €269.

The nearest decent priced TV (around the €200 mark) is the Normende 28" LED, 720p,which has both Satellite and Saorview Tuners built in. €229 @ Power City. Its no Samsung though...

Yeah I have mates that work in electrical retail, I rang and told them the price and they told me to snap it up. Its a really slick tv. But that night they had full hf LG's for 199 and a couple of Sonys for 229. They musta been trying to clear them out

I'm delighted with it anyway :)

I have the TV myself and yes, it's a super set. A bargain also at that price!
