Getting UTV HD on FTA, but UTV Ireland is encrypted. I'll dig out the tuning details for you later.

    Hi all,

I seem to have lost UTV HD and STV HD which I had tuned in as an 'Other Ch' on my Sky Box. I still can view the other ITD HD regions. I have a HD sub.

Anybody know if the frequencies have changed ?

I tried King of Sat but can find no info.

    Thanks.

Just after checking my own Sky box and sure enough UTV and STV arent displaying. I hadn't noticed that before now as I normally watch UTV HD on Freeview.

    11068 V 3/4

That's what a blind scan got for me. It was working in one box but not another. I now have them on both boxes with that setting. Be sure to delete the old setting/channels first or your box may ignore the change.

Changing the FEC worked and I am now up and running on STVHD and UTVHD again. Much appreciated.

As an aside I tried to tune in ITV3HD but as I expected there was no joy. I know the reason why we can no longer receive ITV2/3/4HD. Just a pity !

Not sure what happened a couple of hours ago as I had deleted the channels before scanning.

Anyhow, done it again and all back to normal. :)

This is bad news for certain owners of some older Panasonic equipment.

Why can't we get ITV 2,3 & 4 HD anymore?

because ITV do not broadcast to Ireland via satellite, those channels are UK only, ITV blocked them to Irish viewers.

The SD feeds are still available and the main ITV channel is still available to us in HD!

The SD versions are FTA as is the main ITV HD channel. The other ITV HD channels are encrypted and ITV chose not to allow Irish subscriptions access them.

It is a mixture of issues. Sky pay ITV to have the HD versions of their non FTA channels as exclusive on Sky HD UK and they are thus encrypted.

However those channels are also not available on Sky HD Ireland as it seems ITV have decided to not make them generally available here, likely due them selling UTV and the rights to many of their shows to Virgin Media Ireland.

The SD versions of these channels are available in Ireland due to Sky not being interested in paying exclusivity for SD channels any more, thus they are unencrypted and available in Ireland only due to spill over from the UK.

Hi I have a panasonic V20 E from 2011 bought in Limerick. ITV HD has been unwatchable since Jan last. Just noticed that UTV hd has gone pixelated. Is this the 3/4 FEC rate used on ITV HD? If so can are there any solutions out there?
I know that in Britain consumers have been going back to retailers like John Lewis seeking warranty refunds under the Sales of Goods Act. If there is no software or hardware fix what chance of getting a refund or redress in Ireland as the TV is really not fit for purpose.

I contacted the shop in Limerick. They are going to contact some senior technician in Britain and then get back to me. Not expecting much other than the standard Panasonic corporate waffle.

    UTV HD - 11.068 V 23000 3/4 DVB-S2 8PSK

It finds it ok but I can't view it

UTV HD and STV HD share the same transponder 11068 V 23000 3/4. You may need to delete the old setting first if you had it previously.
    Otherwise..
11097 V 23000 3/4 gives ITV London, Anglia, Meridian and Central. All Hd.
11053 H 23000 3/4 gives ITV Wales HD and Granada HD

Thanks, got them, had to remove encore HD and the other ITV HDs.

I might know someone else in the same position i.e. they lost UTV HD on a Panasonic tv and cant get it tuned in again. Keep us posted on how you get on. Thanks.

Thanks for that. Keep us posted :)

My sister lost her UTV HD over a week ago and has tried everything but cant get it tuned in again to the other channels on her Sky box. She's in Dublin but having been born and reared here in Donegal its something that we all grew up with and hence UTV is a channel she watches every day. No problem with the SD version though.

Her TV is a Panasonic but is only about 18 months old (I think) and from reading the link posted earlier (to the Freesat website) it seems that its only pre 2012 versions of those tv's that are affected. Im open to correction on that though.

muffler, she should delete the existing version of UTV HD in other channels and then re-tune it again on 11.068 V 23000 3/4 DVB-S2 8PSK. That's what I had to do.

Done that but to no avail unfortunately. Even deleted ITV Be and something else she had on it.

In saying all that I was only talking her through it over the phone so its possible that she could have done something wrong but its highly unlikely as she done it 3 times. Apart from that she had no difficulty in tuning in the 8 BBC HD Olympic channels so Im fairly confident she knows what she's doing.

I've got the TXP-46GT30B purchased Dec 2011 from the Panasonic store Limerick and I can confirm same problem here with UTV HD and STV HD on FTA.
I do have a six-year warranty so perhaps that might be of some use.
Will be interesting to hear Panasonic's response.

The best & only reliable option is the one I took when the card trick stopped, buy a freesat recorder reciever, you can record any Itv region that you choose.

Sorry, but that is not an option in this case.

    Panachronic eh.

They caused havoc years ago with their DVB-T tuners in Ireland which wouldnt tune in H264 broadcasts despite having the decoder chip on board. People had to hack their channel lists in Hotel mode because Panasonic didnt want to know about it.

So its not the first time they havent defined something in their firmware.

Guard intervals of 3/4 @ 8PSK have existed in the DVB-S2 spec since 2005.

    Caught again.

Got a call back from Panasonic Limerick today. Rep confirmed that there is a stand off between Panasonic UK and ITV regarding the loss in picture quality/ signal. In other words Panasonic couldn't be arsed doing anything about the problem. I reiterated that my V20 TV manual specifically states that it should handle The ITV hd broadcasts parameters. I'm outside my period of guarantee. Pretty pissed off.

Is there a time limit on finding out if the product is 'not fit for purpose'?
I would think that as it is a design flaw you would have some recourse.

Freesat spec would have included this guard interval.

Either way its a huge slip up by Panasonic to deviate from the long published spec for DVB-S2 modulation types and guard intervals.

Here is the text of a response I have received this afternoon following my report to the Panasonic Store Limerick......
    Thank you for your email.
I have forwarded your message to Panasonic Service in the UK and this is the reply I received. It is due to ITV changing the way they broadcast their HD services and unfortunately there is nothing Panasonic can do about this.

    “Hi *****,
We have information about changes to ITV on our FAQ site, in this instance it is changes to the way in which ITV broadcast and there is nothing that we are able to do regarding this I'm afraid.

Why am I experiencing picture issues on ITV HD channels?

ITV have changed the way they broadcast HD services to enable more regional variants and HD channels. However unfortunately this may mean that some customers will experience issues when viewing these channels. If these problem persist you may prefer to select the equivalent SD channels which will continue to be available.
Full details about these and other changes can be found by visiting ITV's website.

Best regards / Med vänliga hälsningar

    *******

    Customer Service Supervisor”

I am very sorry I don’t have good news for you.

    Kind Regards,
    *******

    Thanks for that peking97.

The reply look like a bit of a cop out tbh. The big issue here is that people with other makes or brands of TV do not experience this problem so Panasonic tv owners are not getting what they paid for it seems.

Not so. I have a Humax HDR1100S and it will only record the region set up in the original postcode set-up, plus ITV London (I think it is).

The ITV broadcasts are within the specifications for such broadcasts, as I understand it, so the TV must not be capable of dealing with them properly if you cannot see the channel/s.
To me that means the TV is not fit for purpose.

Owners of Panasonic Freesat models with this UTV HD problem might be interested in this work-around solution I spotted in another forum. It involves changing a setting in the setup menu. It goes like this.

FUNCTION MENU > OTHERS > SET-UP > TUNING > OTHER SATELLITE TUNING MENU > DISH SET-UP > OK > LNB LOW BAND FREQUENCY (It is probably set to 9750). Now type in this number to change it to 9758. EXIT.

    https://forums.digitalspy.com/discussion/2213938/itv-hd-panasonic-problem-solved

    Might be worth a try.
