What was your most painful injury?

Mine happened a couple of weeks ago, managed to shatter my kneecap into a couple of pieces! Had an accidental trip, my knee took the entire fall, full body weight, plus the weight of my heavy backpack at the time.

Was only after an hour or two that I realised it was much more than a bad bruise, had an operation a few days later, surgeons pinned the bones back together, 5 weeks later bones are healed, and I'm beginning to take baby steps again

Nothing else even comes remotely close!

Stood on an unturned Lego piece once.

It was touch and go for a while whether I'd lose my leg or not.

Nowhere near the most serious, but the most painful was a scalded finger, hands down.

Inner thigh ligament tear. Months of pain and not being able to walk properly. I was the driver in a head on crash, and the unbelted passenger behind me went through me.

Closely followed by an ankle ligament tear, with months of pain and not being able to walk properly. Football injury. Couldn't play for a year after it.

Cervical spine injury. Serious nerve pain with no way to find relief other than to wait it out (weeks). Awful.

An up turned electrical plug is in the top 5.

Even thinking about that makes me cringe, when I did it I could hear the puncture sound as it went into my foot, the pain was horrendous and the blood which gushed out had a purplish hue to it. Left a scene of total devastation on my landing.

I woke up with a leg cramp last week. Spent the next two minutes hopping around my room, creating all kinds of interesting new compound swearwords.

Perhaps you want to take step away and actually keep quiet because this is only the second thread I've clicked into this evening and you're bitching in both of them.

Broke my kneecap and dislocated the whole lot.i still get squeamish when I see someone hurting their knees in a match.the most painful thing I've experienced although it didn't last as long as the knee injury was a cut to my eyeball because I rubbed a my eye one morning wearing dried contact lenses.the edge of the lense somehow got sharp and I was hungover and rubbed really hard.it left a cut right down my pupil.i could see a black line through my vision and yellowish liquid came out.the pain was so bad I thought I was gonna go mad.i was shaking with the pain.it took about three days to go away fully.i also got pleurisy before and it was really really painful.i though there was something drastically wrong.a violent stabbing pain in the back of my lung.

    My Dad dying.
It's a toss-up between the time I had my big toe crushed by a retractable bar on the back of a tractor, and the time I jumped off a ledge, landed on uneven ground, and tore the ligaments in my ankle.

With the toe, I had to go to the hospital because the bottom of it had burst open. They threw 4 or 5 stitches in. That wasn't too bad. It was after they had removed the nail that the pain began. Two big needles into where the nail used to be. That hurt quite a bit.

With the ankle, I couldn't walk on it for weeks. Probably should have gone to a doctor about it, but I just hobbled along.
Just after it had healed, I was helping a cousin move furniture. While carrying something light, I walked into her front garden, and once again stepped on uneven ground.
The first two happened while I was drunk, so the pain was a little more bearable. This time I was sober, and it was the other ankle. Took off my boot and watched the ankle swell up. Drove barefoot to the doctor, who sent me to the hospital, and the second ankle healed a lot faster.
    Then my father died.

A broken ankle, it wasn't as bad until I saw that it was backwards....

Got a six inch nail up through my foot once when I stepped on a plank of wood.

Got the prong of a fork down through the other foot (my brothers and I had an awful habit of not knowing where the line between horseplay and attempted murder was :pac: ).

Went over the handlebars of a BMX, chipping my tooth, that was actually more painful than the time I went to limbo under a wire fence (the fence was electrified, I let go but I caught my four front teeth on the wire, yanked them right up, and amazingly I was able to slot them back into position!).

Being trampled by a horse was painful, but I didn't feel a thing after the first once-over, actually the hoof on the back of my head where the horse caught the base of my skull, that was pretty sore, my head was flopping from side to side as I tried to run away, but then someone told me my head always did that when I ran, probably since the time I tried to hang upside-down on a see-saw by the back of my knees, lost my grip cos I wasn't strong enough to hold on, smacked off the ground head first, 'bout a three foot drop cos I was only six or seven at the time.

Took a lump hammer to the back of my head a few years back, but it wasn't serious because the guy lacked the physical strength to follow through (that time the drugs didn't work, for him at least, still hurt like a bitch though!)...

Can't think of anything else right now apart from taking a few hits to the nads, but I wouldn't say there's a man here doesn't know that feeling :pac:

I'd have to agree with this, most painful thing I've ever experienced, makes me wince everytime I think about it.

    Painful even reading that!

I've never actually broken a bone, but would falling into a bed of nettles count as a painful injury? They bloody stung the shyte out of me in my tee-shirt and shorts!

Years ago my mam picked up a sewing needle and put it in the wallpaper (why lol)
Anyway I was cleaning out the fire and ashes blew out.totally forgetting about the needle i rubbed the ashes in a quick motion off the wallpaper with my bare hand ... Needle went through the hand, through two bones and lodged there.
X Ray showed it didn't go through with the point but the eye of the needle ouch
Had an op to remove it.
Still have a fear of sewing needles 16 year later lol

Definitely find it more difficult to deal with emotional torment as opposed to physical pain. But if I was to pick, it could be my tonsils swelling to the point of rubbing against each other, shredding each others walls. Got them removed soon after :pac:
Tore ligaments and sprained my ankle at the same time failing a trampoline stunt. That hurt, a lot, although I probably winced more at the snapping sound it made.
Broke my toes falling off a different trampoline, doing a different stunt (I know, I never learn :D ) didn't realise they were broken so never went to the hospital, just continued practicing. I'm refusing to get them rebroken now!
Worst pain ever would definitely be the loss of my grandad, proper father figure, a recent enough breakup or a good friend discovering I self harmed.

Tearing the cartilage in my knee because it doesn't just happen once and you never know when it's going to surprise you :( I could see the inner workings of my other lower leg for a while following a break but strangely enough it's the though of the knee collapsing that brings the cold sweat

Cracked ribs playing rugby - couldn't cough or laugh for weeks without an excruciating stabbing pain.

Worst thing was, initially two of my teammates supposed I'd winded myself and hauled me backwards by the armpits to try and relieve me (they were French, I think something was lost in the translation). By God I turned the air blue!

Was roller blading a few years ago and fell back flat on my arse onto hard concrete. Don't know if it was a real injury, but my tail bone or 'coccyx' was absolutely fcked. Unimaginably painful for about a week, basically had to stand up for the week. Sitting was immensely painful. It was still very uncomfortable sitting down for about a month after that though

I fell down a 10ft drop on my bicycle and broke my arm. My kneecap used to dislocate on its own and the doctor showed me how to put it back in myself but in the end it was happening so often I'd to have an operation.

    Scratched cornea.

    Sounds horribly painful..

Dislocated kneecap. Had to wait about 8 hours to get it popped back into place...was like a never ending cramp that kept getting worse!

The headaches after a lumbar puncture. The spinal fluid has to rebalance, which takes a few days, meanwhile you get pains in your brain which make you want to jump out a window unless you lie completely still and flat

    1. Dislocated kneecap, the knee has never been the same and after long shifts at work I use diphene cream on it.
    2. The pain and discomfort during my period my Pcos causes
    3. The pain and discomfort my IBS causes me at random times

Had a gallon of petrol ignite in my hands:eek:..burned both hands and arms and stomach to a crisp:(...rolled about on the ground trying to put myself out then when I did I passed out with the pain...spent ten days in the burns unit after that ....

Broken ribs are the worst pain I could even imagine to have. I broke 8 and my sternum along with 7 vertebrae in my back and my collar bone.

To think if you ever break a bone, you would usually rest it until it was healed. But you can't do them at with ribs or you'll suffocate. I then got pneumonia from shallow breathing due to the pain and had to get two chest tubes. Horrific pain. That was years ago and I still can't sneeze with stabbing pain

Oh you've just brought up a repressed memory!!

We lived in the country side and there was a huge garden beside the driveway. Actually, the garden was really a small field but it was run down and there was a very wide hole in it. I wonder why the walkway in to the field from the house wasn't closed off considering I was only 4 or 5 at the time. Anyway, I fell in to the hole that was full of nettles and basically stung myself from head to toe. I remember being in a cold bath and my mother trying to calm me down. I have no idea how I got out of it or who rescued me.

God, I haven't thought about that in years!

Stress fracture of the right tibia. Over 20 years ago now, memory still fresh. Crashing my bike and cutting my face open was "worse" but not nearly as painful.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.
