Oliver Platt (The West Wing, Fargo) has been tapped for a co-starring role as Head of Psychiatry Dr Daniel Charles on the proposed Chicago Fire spin-off, TVWise has confirmed.
Chicago Med will follow the staff of the Chicago Medical hospital, which has featured in both Chicago Fire and Chicago PD. Like Chicago PD before it, the project has not received a traditional pilot order and will instead by piloted as a planted episode (or backdoor pilot) of Chicago Fire.
Oliver Platt, whose long list of television credits also include The Big C and Huff, is the latest addition to Chicago Med’s already impressive cast. The project also stars S. Epatha Merkeson as hospital administrator Sharon Goodwin, Yaya DaCosta as nurse Maggie Seaver and Laurie Holden as ER surgeon Dr Hannah Tramble.
If it goes to series Chicago Med, which is set up at Wolf Films and Universal Television, will become the second spin-off from Chicago Fire. The backdoor pilot is being penned by Michael Brandt, Derek Haas, Matt Olmstead and Dick Wolf and will air as the nineteenth episode of Chicago Fire’s third season.
