    And so it begins...

Bike hire strictly between 1820 to 1845

Sign on strictly between 1820 to 1850.

    Racing & Hire Fees

    - Sign on fee Seniors €10 per week (or €30 for 8 weeks)
    - Student /Junior/Unwaged €20 for 8 weeks
    - U12/U14/U16 €3 per week (or €10 for 8 weeks)
    - Family League Fee €30
    - Bike hire available €5 (Youth & Unwaged €2)
    - No change of pedals or gearing allowed (Changed to Look Keo for 2015)

First Race 1900 (Note earlier start time!!)

    No late sign ons permitted.

    Racing Categories
Racing will be loosely broken into 4 categories
    - A Elite Men, Elite Vets & Elite Women
    - B Senior Men, Juniors, Top Women
    - C U16, Novice, Vets
    - C Ladies (Separate racing for 2015)
    - D Youth

(Note riders will be be subjected to being moved up or down on perceived track ability, A top Junior could end up riding A, or a novice could be C but the vast majority will be in the B category.)

First Race every night will be youth to try to get youth racing finished earlier.

This Wednesday the races will be:

    1. Progressive (so really, a scratch)
This race is where racers start off gently and build up the pace. This doesn't normally work like this and it becomes a scrtach.

    2. Scratch
Point to point, first past the post

    3. Reverse Win and Out
A Win and Out is a race whereby the rider who passes the line on a certain lap is the winner (usually lap three in the league). They are pulled from the race as it continues on. Three laps later the first person to cross the line is second place and removed from the race. Then, same again, lap three, third place.

A Reverse Win and Out is when the order changed, third place on the first three, second on the second three, etc. So, tactically, you gotta decide from the beginning which you're going to go for... no point tiring yourself out to try each one. Pick one and go for it.

Points are award for three places, First = 3, Second = 2, Third = 1.

All future races are listed here: http://www.trackcycling.ie/?tribe_events=sstleague1

May God have mercy on your souls!

I'd also like to campaign to introduce this format for later in the Autumn League:

    All Out War

Looks deadly. Only if the points race can come before the elimination. Which would defeat the purpose I suppose. I suck at elimination races!

No-one sucks at anything in life, they're just better at other things.

Thought that was me:P - while I'm definitely looking forward to it, the "apprehension" (or should that be the onset of panic?) is starting to take it's toll .....

One thing that's particularly relevant this time in the season is there will be pressure to get everything in before the light fades. Of course we will have organisers there to keep everyone on their toes, but equally it's important for everyone to be ready to race when it's their turn. Not sure what the numbers will be like tomorrow but it may be necessary to split some of the races down into 2 which will put more pressure on everyone to get all the scheduled races completed

Yep, we will be very strict on time. Especially as it will be cold too.

raging that im probably going to miss this :(

Speaking of cold , bring warm gear. If you're new to this you might not realise how cold it gets between races. Bring something to sit on too.

just got a shock from the scales, worried about my poor track bike tomorrow, havent been on it since 2014 and Ive gained 10+ kg since then. started turbo training 1 week ago(and gained 2kg wtf?!) ,its gonna be a huge shock to the system tomorrow! have had some short brutal commutes but they dont really compare

good luck to everyone tomorrow, most important thing is to have fun, and stay safe

If the racing is called off tomorrow due to adverse weather conditions (touch wood, but it's a possibility) will someone from Sundrive make an announcement here/Facebook?

Weather seriously changeable in south county dub today...better hold off long enough!

So the ladies will race together? We had that last year, didn't we?
I'm still not ready (mentally) after the collarbone incident, so I will hold off for a while. My bike is still in pieces anyway ...

    Have fun!

Very changeable, but any rain we are getting is blowing over quite quickly (we had a heavy but short downpour northside a little earlier). I would imagine/hope the track will dry sufficiently quite quickly even if/when we do get the odd shower

Looks like there'll be a howler if a headwind on the back straight

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 78,393 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

... well I'll be leaving the disc wheels at home this evening anyway

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 78,393 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

It's actually a bit frustrating - have the track bike in the car, but if there's a serious chance of tonight being off I could head over to Corkagh Park for a club league race, but that would entail me heading back home to swap bikes

Thankfully I think we will get some racing in at Sundrive.

Every time I look out the window the skies get darker.....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,450 ✭✭✭Harrybelafonte

Everyone will have to make their own call on this. Sessions/racing etc is not usually called off until track is inspected or it's pouring at the time. We've even hung around an hour, waited for things to dry up, then raced.

The same was true for Mondello last night, everyone had to make a call on it.

the last bit of rain is due over Sundrive in 10mins and should only last 15mins, looks like it will stay clear after that

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,505 ✭✭✭colm_gti

Lungs are cut out if me after that! Half glad the last race was abandoned, I'm not smart enough for a reverse win and out

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 78,393 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

Certainly was fun, having arrived there to receive confirmation I was in the C Group, only to then be immediately promoted to the ladies section of the C Group.

There were 2 particularly strong ladies who gave me great shelter in the 2 races we did, allowing me to pick up a 2nd and 3rd. As I was the last from the group to leave the track after the heavens opened I'm also claiming a victory in the reverse win and out - I'm awaiting confirmation on that one though

Delighted the change to allowing the kids to race first gave them the opportunity to complete their programme before it became to wet to continue. Also well done to Hugh, Harry and the other organsiers in pushing on with getting the races on - we started dead on 7 and managed to get 2 sets of races in for all groups as well as the 3rd for the kids by 8.15 when rain stopped play.

Really was great to be back after a 20 month or so hiatus.

    .

:mad::mad::mad: This happening was the main reason why a separate women's section was formed! Fúck sake!

No offence Beasty, and congratulations on your track racing re-debut!

I'll be there next week to give out :p

Ah ok. Damn extra pissed I missed it!

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 78,393 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

Just to add - if separate ladies races had been run we would have had to split the mens C races into 2, which in all likelihood would have resulted in a number of us only getting one race in before the rain came

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,450 ✭✭✭Harrybelafonte

I don't seethe point in discussing this here. It was brought up before with the organisers who have made an effort to provide Ladies only races. If people are unhappy with it, they can talk to the organisers about it. As things stand there will probably be two men's Cs sections anyway because of the numbers in that group. This will thin out with more moving to the Bs and Bs moving to As.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 6,856 Mod ✭✭✭✭eeeee

If the numbers aren't there the numbers aren't there. Hopefully more ladies will come later on. There'll be one extra number from next week on!

It mush have been freezing tonight? Gonna bring two blankets next week!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,450 ✭✭✭Harrybelafonte

The weather is not to be vastly improved next week so I do recommend warm and waterproof clothing for all. People should get there as early as possible to as to allow proper warm up time.

Great to have the 2015 'Summer' league up and running apart from the rain ruining the last race.
It was bitterly cold with some strong winds through the finishing straight and into the first bend.
Here's hoping that conditions next week will be more favourable.

Thanks to all the organisers and helpers last night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 150 ✭✭SERCPRO

Finally made it into the b's after being in the c's for 3/4 seasons :)

There was some great competitive racing last night from all sections and some very promising new riders to push us all a little more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 811 ✭✭✭mal1

My first 2 races last night and enjoyed it. The C group was fairly competitive, if a little disorganised for the first race. The worse part is getting cold in the waiting pen and reinstalling my brake afterwards with cold hands.

Can't fit mine on the back of my track bike!
I have thought of engineering some sort of backpack for them. I'll probably have it when the weather warms up!

    Are the results up yet?
