LG G Flex 2 Owners Thread!

Hi guys, recently had my note 3 stolen while away a few weeks ago.. Long story short, I needed to replace it. I am an android user and keep up with the latest and greatest. I looked at the s6 edge but in the end went for the g flex 2 as i was impressed with the design since the original was released. The self healing back also helped with the decision. Found a few auctions on ebay and won a new opened box(to unlock) g flex 2 for €500 including delivery. I was pretty chuffed, next day delivery too :)

I'm loving the handset. The snapdragon 810 is superfast & 2GB of RAM(would have preferred 3GB but way over budget!) makes this flexible phone an awesome bit of kit!

Anyway, couldn't find a thread on this awesome banana phone, so thought I'd start one..

I will post updates and findings as they come up.

I bought the original G Flex from Amazon.de last week and I'm loving it. I sold on my note 3 and got it for what I sold the note so it's only a stop gap for me until my upgrade in October. The flex 2 would have cost me another €250 so I couldn't justify that for a smaller screen and a smaller battery. I know the screen on mine is only 720p but I can't get over the battery life and how responsive it is compared to the note 3. I wanted to try a new ui before signing up for another two years with touchwiz and LG beats it hands down.
The only problem is that mine arrived with a brown 4mm bruise between the LCD and digitiser in the top left corner so I'm waiting for a prepaid jiffy bag from the lg warranty repair company at the moment.

Nice one! Yeah, i love the difference from touchwiz, LG is much closer to stock android with the bonus of the ability to customise it's awesome!

The curved display gets people looking too!

Pity about the mark on the screen but you'll be up and running soon! Good luck ;)

Not too many g flex 2 owners in Ireland then.. Lol!

The price has come down siginificantly..

You can now get a brand new one with 32GB storage, 3GB of RAM and the awesome snapdragon 810 for less than €390 delivered.

How could you not buy one? :)

Because people are blinded and bombarded by Samsung and HTC's advertisements here.

For some reason LG dont seem too interested in the Irish market and it's only now that the G4 is available in an Irish bricks and mortar store.

So to actually purchase the flex or flex 2 you actually have to have an interest in android technology and half a brain aswel to see past Samsung's gimmicks and realise there are far better handsets on the market.

Im either gonna go for the Moto X style in September or wait till March for the Flex 3.

What has leaked so far about the Note 5 is an embarrassing anticlimax and should basically be called the Note 4s.

I ordered two of these last week for my nephew and work colleague, https://www.eglobalcentral.eu/#/product/14796
Amazing price for the phone and really fast delivery. And before you ask the phones aren't clones and the website is legit.

If it has issues you have to send back to them tho right? Is it to China or a UK centre?

Thinking of getting the LG G4 off em, saving nearly €80 compared to Amazon who are cheapest.

Hmm ok thought companies wouldn't touch em warranty wise as their site says the phone is only covered by them and not manufacturer.

Does anyone using this phone still recommend it? Its currently available on Expansys for just over €300 which seems good value.

Oh yes, superb phone. Extremely easy to use and surprisingly tough. Take a look on eBay. There's a guy in Germany selling them for €249 plus €10 delivery to Ireland. How can you go wrong? Good luck

I ordered from Expansys and have the phone around a week now. I agree its a really good phone for the money. Very easy to root as well.

So I've been watching a bunch of reviews on youtube for this phone and a lot mention that the UI for the G Flex 2 is a bit stuttery. The reviews are all 6 or 7 months old though. Have there been any software updates to improve this does anyone know?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,454 ✭✭✭✭Ha Long Bay

I think the phones runs smooth I don't see any lag. I have it rooted removed unwanted apps and also use nova launcher. Latest update is V15C which came out a few weeks ago. Its Android 5.1.1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,182 ✭✭✭SteM

Cheers. So you just rooted to remove bloat but didn't change the ROM? I generally stice Action Launcher on any phone I get so that may help.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,454 ✭✭✭✭Ha Long Bay

The bootloader is locked so there are no custom roms available. I rooted to remove bloat, install things like awaway and also xposed to customize the phone.

    http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=401026331519&alt=web

Also, it auto updates to 5.1.1 and is silky smooth. Nothing beats it for the money..

I got a Flex 2 on amazon.de for 220 delivered on a flash sale. Couldn't say no to that, delighted. I had this hands on a few months ago and impressed me a lot. Can't wait to give a real combover.

Bargain, I paid 500e 7 months ago.. You'll love it after the 5.1.1 update. Silky smooth and fast with the snapdragon 810. Its gets a lot of looks with the curve too..

where is the best price for this phone now? Is there much of a difference between the 2gb and 3gb of ram?

It's for the g/f and she's also looking at the one plus x, any advice would be much appreciated

German seller on ebay for €268 delivered http://www.ebay.ie/itm/LG-G2-Flex-2-H955-16GB-LTE-silver-Android-Smartphone-Handy-ohne-Vertrag-WOW-/191715653328?hash=item2ca324b6d0:g:q2wAAOSwl9BWKcO7

Also on Expansys for €305 http://www.expansys.ie/lg-g-flex2-16gb-black-272955/

I find the 2GB model fast with no lag and has all the correct LTE bands for Ireland. I think the 3GB model is missing band 20 which 3 Ireland use.

So I finally got my mits on this yesterday. Ported over my number etc and have been doing some tests.

    Some Positives:
    - I am in love with the feel of this device. The curve is very natural in your hands and the button at the back is easily reachable.
    - The POLED screen looks gorgeous. The screen colour is vibrant. Having an M8 before this I had high expectations. Very happy with this.
    - Everything is snappy. Really good. Processor is great.
    - The GPU is excellent in it too. No issues playing games. GPU benchmarks are well above my former HTC One M8
    - The battery. Having played 3 hours of games and another 4 hours of 4g and wifi downloading I still had around 75% battery left, which is pretty damn awesome. The phone doesn't get too hot either.
    - The camera. I've only taken night photos and the results are very impressive. Very little noise and the flash is great too.

    Negatives:
    - The bloatware is disgusting. I got rid of most of it by now.
    - The plastic back. Coming from a phone with a titanium background, I think I was spoiled with this.

At the end of the day I'd be happy to recommend this phone if its currently selling at 250. It's a steal. I can see why it's a very niche phone though. They have to compete against Oneplus X (I've used, is excellent), its own LG G3 which has similar hardware specs but a QHD screen and a variety of Chinese manufactured phones to boot.

Mine's on its way from Germany at the moment (hopefully). Any advice on how to remove the bloat would be appreciated.

Root it (there's some good guides on xda forum) and then remove the crap. It's not removable otherwise (some of the apps are removeable).

    Soon I guess

Has anyone else got shockingly bad battery performance? Really dissapointed with this, wondering if there is a fault with the phone. If I run a low intensity app (like QuizUp for example) for like 20 minutes it can drain the battery up to 20%

i got a lg g flex 2 on expansys for 300 delivered about 3 weeks ago and am impressed so far. I came from using a 5c but this knocks the sock off the iphone.

only minor issue so far is the overheating at times which is a know issue with the processor.

Hi guys, after seeing the joke prices for "upgrading" with Meteor, very seriously considering this phone. Currently have a Galaxy S5 and wondering would this be comparable? I'm not that technically proficient. I basically rely alot on using micro SD card for storage, do alot of downloading, etc. It seems quite reasonable at the moment and I could get for circa €250 from amazon.de.

    https://www.amazon.de/LG-Flex-H955-platinum-Android/dp/B00R4TCGLG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464164310&sr=8-1&keywords=lg+flex+2

    Any advice much appreciated!

It's still a great phone, the Snapdragon 810 is significantly better than the 801 in the S5. Nobody has this in Ireland too so gets a lot of attention at a low cost. The LG interface is light which makes it a really straight forward and easy to use.

Nice one! Its also one of the few phones to support a 2TB micro SD card. Obviously not yet released!

One thing people say is that the screen isn't the brightest in the world, but I think it's pretty decent.

Definitely root it. Get rid of the bloatware, install xposed and get the battery modules, I can get by charging every 2 days.

Ha! I'm totally intrigued by the notion of rooting a phone. Alas, I fear it is beyond my technical abilities. I can download and stuff but wouldn't have a clue how to root it.

    They are pants.
I owned one when they are first released and they had overheating and throttling problems and proved slow at the time, despite looking gorgeous.
In recent months I jumped back in, looking for a backup phone while my Oneplus 6 was being repaired....
Nothing had changed, the LG G Flex 2 was still an attractive phone but it was overheating, the performance was awful. I tried the original launcher and a selection of alternatives, no help at all.
I ended up bringing it to CEX and trading it for 75 euro.
Avoid the phone like the plague.

Totally agree, the battery life was pretty poor too. I wonder where they got this four year old stock from and is it even worth their while selling the phone in 2019?

Might be wrong, but it's not the first time they've had this for sale, 99 the last time I think, or might of been elsewhere but it's pants compared to even the basic phones now, buuuut it's a curved screen ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
